The spring semester of 2013 is coming to a close. We at Holderby Hall have endured the all

nine months of the school year and emerged on top. We’ve come through one

of the coldest winter freeze of the decade, and began the sweat of a Huntington

summer, however there are plenty of long, fun, summer days to come during

the break and we’re just as happy to see them as you are. Hopefully time will

slow as you start your summer, and we want to wish you a safe and fun vaca-

tion away from school. The residents and staff of Holderby have made it to the

end of the semester, but there is one more challenge to hurdle before school is

finished for the summer, the ever menacing finals.

Dead Week will begin April 28th and last until May 2nd. Finals week will span

from May 3rd to May 9th. Students should make sure to check and double

check the finals schedule because most finals will not fall on the same time

and date of their weekly classes. This schedule can be found throughout cam-

pus, in places such as the Student Resource Center (SRC) in the Memorial Stu-

dent Center, but your professor will be able to help as well. Also, if your class

is after 4pm your final will take place at the same time as the class. In order to

help one another the building will be under 24 Hour Quiet Hours, starting

April 28th 9am. This is put in place to keep a low noise level so everyone can

study in peace and focus on their work. Since it is so important, this rule will be strictly en-

forced and is to be monitored by any and all. Anyone caught violating the quiet hours will re-

ceive a write up from the staff.

Holderby will officially close on May 10th at noon exactly. Be sure to check out before then, or

else you will receive an improper checkout which will result in a fine. When your room is

clean and you are ready to leave just stop by the front desk and a staff member will take care of

you. You will need your room key, mailbox key and MUID card with you when you come to

the desk to check out. Also, don’t forget to clean out your mailbox so you don’t leave anything.

Should you find anything that you don’t want to take, there will be goodwill bins in the main

lobby so you can donate them without hassle, drop them off as you see fit. The bins will arrive

during the final weeks and stay until the close of the halls.

Next year there will be several next faces in the hall as resident advisors Monty Green, Chris

Carter, Miranda Carnahan, and long time resident advisors Marla Nowlin and Brittany Stevens

will be leaving. Be sure to wish them luck if you see them in the hallways.

It’s been a great semester and we here at Holderby Hall wish you a wonderful summer vaca-

tion, and are look forward to seeing you

next semester.

Summer is HERE!! Closing Procedures Here are all of the important things that you need to make sure you don’t forget and prepare before you leave for the summer!

Quiet hours will be in effect 24 hours a day beginning at 9:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, throughout the remainder of the semester

All residents must vacate the halls within 24 hours of their last final exam, or by 12:00 noon on Saturday May 10 when the residence halls close, whichever comes first.

Graduating seniors and members of the band working at graduation must complete a Late Checkout form found at your front desk. This form should be completed and turned in to your Resident Director by May 1 to be granted permission to stay in their residence hall until 4:00pm on Saturday May 11.

Residents staying for summer school must make arrangements for summer school housing by speaking with Sybil Lockard at 304-696-3171 or completing a summer housing application found online at www.marshall.edu/housing. All students will be living in Twin Towers West for summer school. Students will move to their summer school assignments on May 11 between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.

Before leaving, residents must:

Remove all belongings from your room. The Department of Housing and Residence Life as-sumes no responsibility for items left in the halls. If you leave items in the halls, you will be charged $25.00 to have the items bagged and tagged. Once we collect items you will have 30 days to claim them. After 30 days they will be discarded.

Clean your room, empty trash, vacuum or sweep, and reassemble all furniture. Failure to com-plete these tasks will result in a $25.00 per resident cleaning charge.

Get with your RA or stop by the front desk to be checked out of your room and to sign all paperwork. Failure to check out by designated time or not signing all of your paperwork will result in an improper checkout fee of $50.00 being billed to your account.

Do not leave your keys with a desk worker. You must turn in your keys in at time of checkout. Failure to do so will result in a rekey charge ($40.00 for a room key and $30.00 for a mailbox key). Returning or mailing items after check-out will not prevent being billed for these items.

Please review your Room Condition Report carefully before signing it. All furniture must be in the room and in the same condition as when you checked in. Be advised that you may be charged for damages that are discovered after you check out.

Lock your window, shut off air conditioners, turn off lights, and lock the door.

Confirm your forwarding address with the Desk Coordinator.

Remove all mail from your mailbox.

Have a safe and wonderful summer!

See you in the fall!!
