2013 R10 HTA Highlights

1. 13 SIGHTS formed in R10 in 2013 and 5 are in pipeline. Total number of SIGHTs in Region 10 is 20, 5 SIGHTs are in pipeline. This is against the total number of 32 SIGHTs across the IEEE.

2. R10-HTC2013 was held in Japan (Tohoku University, Sendai, Miyagi) on 27-29 Aug 2013. The theme of conference was “Lessons learned from Japan’s earthquake and other natural disasters around the world”. 206 delegates from 12 countries attended the conference. There were 63 presentations (including 17 invited speakers) and 12 posters.

3. Finalized R10-HTC2014 : The conference will be held on 6-9 Aug 2014 in Chennai being organized by IEEE Madras section

2013 R10 HTA Highlights

4. Invited project proposals from sections to encourage humanitarian activities in the Region: 31 proposals were received, 6 projects were selected for funding of (75% of project cost or US$750 which ever is less) from R10 balance 25% were supported by respective sections. 5 projects reported completion.

5. Conducted awareness program on HT in Region 10 Student/GOLD/WIE Congress at Hyderabad on 12-14 Jul 2013. The sessions were attended by SIGHT coordinators. A brainstorming session was also organized on issues related to SIGHT and was participated by 20 SIGHT leaders. The report was sent to SIGHT steering committee to look in to the recommendations made during the session.

6. Region 10 participated in GHTC2013 and presented the R10 activities and R10’s perspective on SIGHT. R10 HTA also showcased the projects and activities carried out by R10 IEEE members, on Humanitarian Technology, in GHTC2013.

*Provision for eight projects were kept, 6 projects were selected by the committee. 5 projects were completed successfully. Out of 5 completed project 3 projects were completed below their estimated cost.**Travel support to make presentation on R10 HT activities and a panel discussion in R10 HTC2013. Support for one additional volunteer was provided by R10-HTC2013.*** HT track was organized in R10 Congress at Hyderabad. Financial support was provided by SIGHT Steering committee. R10 activities were presented at GHTC-2013 along with posters on R10 HT activities. Partial support of US$1250 by SIGHT steering committee.
