A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

I know that picking your wedding photographer can be one of the more difficult and time consuming elements of planning your wedding and so I pulled together this little ‘mini-zine’ to help you understand a little bit more about what I offer. You’ve got as far as looking at my website, filling in the form and now here you’ve got your hands on this - I hope it might persuade you to think about booking me for your wedding.

Filled with beautiful photos and some real life weddings; this should tell you all you need to know and more about booking me, but if you still have any questions or want to schedule a chat then just let me know; I’d love to get together over coffee and cake or a cheeky beer to hear all about your wedding plans.

So a little bit about me - Aside from my work; I live in South East London, somewhere between East Dulwich and Peckham with my gorgeous husband Joss and our two annoying but adorable kitties. I’m a former East-Ender and I really miss it at times. I’m a little bit girlie, but I adore grey (seriously – most of the walls in our little home are grey), mannish brogues, craft beer and tattoos. I’m sure I’m going to end up with arms full of woodland creatures. I’m very partial to cheese but I don’t eat meat and I have a terrible sweet tooth.

I love fashion photography, I suppose it stems from my formercareer and how it allows you to escape into a world of fanta-sy. On that note I love fashion, but I hate shopping for myself.

I love a quality drama so let’s talk about Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad and my guilty please (Sssh – don’t tell anyone) is the Vampire Diaries.

I love to travel, to have adventures and see new places, and always to drink the local beer.

I still dabble with film photography, but digital is my workhorse.

So, that’s a little about me, let me show you what I can do.

Ellie xx

& Y O UIf I had to define my style, it would be somewhere between photojour nalistic and editorial - I want to capture beautiful natural moments, I hate o v e r l y posed shots and I want to show the connection between the two of you, and between you and your families and friends. The nervous smiles, the brush of the hands; I want you to feel something when you look back at your photos. I like images with a slightly unconventional aspect to them.

Most of the time I’m a quiet observer, staying under the radar as the moments unfold and documenting the day from my perspective, but I’ll also get some beautiful photos of the two of you - there’s no awkward posing, but I might give you a few little suggestions to help you feel more at ease. Normally I’ll borrow you for about 20 minutes at some point during your day and we’ll have some fun and make some magic!

I know that you’ll want a few group shots for the mantlepiece, so I’ll take a relaxed approach to pulling groups together into shots which are neither stuffy nor cheesey, and we can take a little bit of time to get creative with your bridesmaids and ushers.

“YOU ’RE PLANNING YOUR WEDDING OR C IVIL PARTNERSHIP AROUND YOURSELVES - F ILL ING IT WITH THE THINGS , AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE

PEOPLE , YOU LOVE”

There’s no one kind of wedding I shoot - I love grungey urban affairs as much rustic countryside chic, or mini-malist warehouse spaces. I call it alternative wedding photography, because it’s an alternative to that stuffy, traditional wedding photography that everyone expect.

So what about YO U ?

You’re planning your wedding or civil partnership around yourselves – filling it with the things, and more importantly, the people, you love. You’re not taking a traditional approach and you don’t want the same from your wedding photography. You might be a boy and a girl, a girl and a girl or a boy and a boy but you know you’re marrying “The One”

You’re looking for a set of creative, stylish and artistic images that tell the story of your wedding and a photog-rapher you can trust to provide them.

The kind of couples that best suit my work are creative, open minded and fun loving; happy to experiment and hates stuffy or formal. You view your wedding images as a little bit of a collaboration.

You want a photographer who feels like they could be one of your friends.

You love to have adventures, love a music festival and you love goodtimes.

I often get asked at weddings how I know the couple, and I take that as the hugest compliment. That guest think I’m a friend with a big camera means that I fit in, which is exactly where I want to be.

a l b u m s ? ( o r p r i n t s ? )In short, yes. If you’re investing in your wedding photography itself then it makes total sense to in-vest in presenting and enjoying it too rather than letting them sit as o’s and 1’s on your hard-drive.

I offer beautiful and sustainably made Folio al-bums but I can tell you about them later.

If a formal album seems a bit too, well formal, I also offer beautiful prints, either photographic, the same matte fine art finish as my albums and a variety of other Hannemuhle finishes printed by one of London’s best printing houses. You can either create an ‘unbound’ album in a keepsake box or have them framed, bold and beautiful on your wall.

HINTS & TIPS / /o r, a t l e a s t , s o m e t h i n g t o t h i n k a b o u t

THE GREAT LIGHT DEBATE

Ok - I could talk about this for hours... To keep it brief natural light is your friend and lots of the signa-ture images you see on my site and in this magazine are shot with natural light only but I can show you a whole portfolio of images taken with flash, video light or just using the ambient light to take creative after dark images. Theres’s something beautiful about capturing the mood, the way the light was. However, for winter weddings in January and February I’d suggest making the ceremony around midday to give you the flexibility of having some photos in natural light, and some using creative light sources.

AND RAIN. . .

C’mon - the average British wedding photographer knows how to deal with rain. We’re lucky to have a very changeable climate which means that we can have beautiful light one minute and stormy skies the next which means that it probably won’t rain all day. if it does then a pretty umbrella and a little bit of light behind you could be just the trick. Fortunately win-dow light is some of the best light available, so find-ing a gorgeous room and rocking the shots in there works well too.

ON GOLDEN HOUR

On a non-overcast day this occurs about 1-2 hours before sunset; it could be the ideal time to schedule your pre-wedding shoot or if, we happen to have beautiful light on your wedding day, don’t mind if I tap you on the shoulder in between courses to sug-gest we shoukd go out for some photos.

HAVE A LOVE SHOOT

Not only is it the best way to get to know the person who’ll be taking your wedding photos better but you also get some awesome photos of the two of you in a location of your choice (and one you might not be able to include on your wedding day). Your wedding day happens once, but this means you might get to have photos in one of your favourite places.

HAVE FUN

Having your photo taken should be fun; you should be creating memories to keep forever so if you laugh, smile and stop worrying you’ll have beautiful photos.

A SECOND PHOTOGRAPHER?

Whilst I can provide excellent coverage by myself, I can’t be in two places at once and will usually (there is no usual, but you know what I mean) cover the bride getting ready. If you are getting ready in different loca-tions and you’d like this documented or you have lots of lots of guests then adding a second photographer from my network is an option.

LOTS OF PHOTOS OF YOUR GUESTS. . .

Is a given, you’ve invited your nearest and dearest so of course you want them immoratalised in photo. Or-dinarily coktail hour is a fantastic time to capture lots of candid and natural shots of your guests enjoying themselves.

KEEP IT MOVING AFTER DINNER

You know that feeling when you’ve had a massive lunch? Add several glasses of wine and that welcome Prosecco to that equation and you’ve got drowsy guests - to encourage them to hit the dancefloor either go straight into your first dance after the coffees or give them something to keep them occupied. This tends to be the time when guests least want to be photographed but giving them something to do keeps the energy in the room.
