Vergleichbar mit Claude Monets Giverny, Paul Cézannes Provence und Egon Schieles Krumau präsentiert sich der Attersee als einzigartige Wirkungsstätte von Gustav Klimt (1862–1918).

Der weltberühmte Maler verbrachte die Sommermonate zwischen 1900 und 1916 regel mäßig in dieser Region. Am Attersee entstand der überwiegende Teil seiner über 50 bekannten Landschaftsgemälde, die wesent-liche Akzente in der Malerei der Klassischen Moderne gesetzt haben. Bis heute verzaubern diese Bilder Kunstliebhaber aus aller Welt und erzielen Höchstpreise am Kunstmarkt.

Anlässlich des 150. Geburtstags des Jugend-stilkünstlers wurde am 14. Juli 2012 das Gustav Klimt-Zentrum an der vom Künstler gemal-ten Allee des Schlosses Kammer in Kammer- Schörfling am Attersee errichtet.

Eine vom Wiener Leopold Museum gestaltete multimediale Ausstellung informiert über Klimts Sommerfrische am Attersee und seine Aufenthalte in Litzlberg (Bräuhof), Kammer (Villa Oleander) und Weißenbach (Forsthaus). Im Kino des Gustav Klimt-Zentrums zeigt der vielgerühmte Film »Sehnsucht ›nach dort‹« unter anderem jene pittoreske Landschaft, die Gustav Klimt zu seinen Gemälden inspirierte.

Die Spuren Gustav Klimts können außerdem bei vorangemeldeten Führungen an Land und am Schiff (siehe S. 7–11) oder bei individuel-len Spazier gängen entlang des Gustav Klimt-Themenweges mit einem Audioguide erkundet werden.

Der Klimt-Shop bietet ein umfangreiches Sortiment an Souvenirs und das angeschlossene Klimt Café Restaurant sorgt für die kulinarischen Gaumenfreuden.

Klimt am Sonntag Von Juni bis September bietet das Gustav Klimt-Zentrum die Führung »Klimt am Sonntag« auf Deutsch an. Bei dieser 150- bis 180-minütigen Führung erhalten Sie zu Wasser und an Land einen fundierten Einblick über Klimts Schaffen am Attersee.

Die Führung beginnt um 13:30 Uhr im Gustav Klimt-Zentrum. Danach werden die Wirkungs-stätten Klimts an Bord eines Schiffes der Attersee-Schifffahrt (Rundkurs Nord) und ent-lang des Gustav Klimt-Themenweges erkundet. Der Gustav Klimt-Themenweg entlang der Promenade in Kammer und Seewalchen gibt einen Überblick zu Klimts Leben und Werk und den Motiven seines Schaffens in der Umgebung seiner Sommerdomizile am Nordufer des Sees (T1–T10). Die Stelen in den übrigen Gemeinden informieren vertiefend über Klimts Besuche am Attersee. So befindet sich beispielsweise die Stele W1 vor dem Forsthaus in Weißenbach (Gemeinde Steinbach am Attersee), der ein-zigen Sommerresidenz (1914–1916), die der Jugendstilkünstler auch bildlich festhielt. Einige Stelen sind mit quadratischen Löchern verse-hen. Beim Blick durch diese Ausschnitte können Sie – ähnlich wie es der Meister vor mittlerweile 100 Jahren mit einem »Motivsucher« aus Pappe getan hat – Ihre eigenen »Klimt-Landschaften« komponieren. Ein deutsch- und englischsprachi-ger Text sowie ausgewählte Gemälde, histori-sche Fotografien und Ansichtskarten illustrieren diese Ent deckungsreise.

Als zusätzliche Informationsebene gibt es für individuelle Spaziergänge entlang des Gustav Klimt-Themenweges Audioguides in deutscher und englischer Sprache. Entlehnung im Gustav Klimt-Zentrum.

Comparable to Claude Monet’s Giverny, Paul Cézanne’s Provence and Egon Schiele’s Krumau, the Attersee was a place of unique artistic activity for Gustav Klimt (1862–1918).The world-renowned artist regularly spent the summer months between 1900 and 1916 in this region. It was here that he created the vast majority of his over 50 known landscapes which have greatly influenced Classical Modernism. To this day, Klimt’s canvases delight art enthusiasts all over the world and fetch record prices at auctions.

Gustav KlImt Center

Situated in Kammer-Schörfling on the Attersee on the very avenue in the park of Schloss Kammer once painted by Klimt, the Gustav Klimt Center was ope-ned on the 14th of July 2012 to commemorate the Jugendstil artist’s 150th birthday. A multimedia exhibition created by the Vienna Leopold Museum informs visitors about the summer vacations Klimt spent on the Attersee and his stays in Litzlberg (Brewery Inn), Kammer (Villa Oleander) and Weißenbach (forester’s lodge). Screenings of the much-praised film »Yearning to ›Be There‹« at the Gustav Klimt Center’s very own cinema give visitors a sense of the picturesque scenery that inspired Gustav Klimt’s paintings. The artist’s trail on the Attersee can be further ex-plored on pre-booked guided tours on foot or by boat (see p. 24–27) as well as on individual walks accom-panied by an audio guide along the Gustav Klimt Artist Trail. The Klimt Shop offers a wide range of souvenirs, while the adjacent Klimt Café Restaurant provides culinary treats.

Summer toursIn July, August and September public guided tours of the exhibition at the Gustav Klimt Center take place on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 4 pm (duration: approx. 60 minutes). These tours are held in German and are open to anyone holding a valid ticket without prior booking.

Klimt on Sunday From June to September the Gustav Klimt Center offers the German language guided tour »Klimt on Sunday«. During this 150 to 180 minute tour by boat and on foot, visitors are given a comprehensive over-view of Klimt’s work on the Attersee. The tour starts at 1.30 pm at the Gustav Klimt Center. Visitors then explore Klimt’s main places of activity aboard a ship provided by the Lake Attersee Shipping Company (circular course north) and along the Gustav Klimt Artist Trail. Gustav KlImt artIst traIl

The Gustav Klimt Artist Trail that leads along the promenades in Kammer and Seewalchen affords interesting insights into Klimt’s life and oeuvre and provides an overview of his motifs in his summer hol-iday destinations on the north shore of the lake (T1–T10). The panel W1 for instance is situated in front of the forester’s lodge in Weißenbach (municipality Steinbach am Attersee), the only summer residence (1914–1916) that the Jugendstil artist captured on canvas. Some of the panels have square holes mod-eled on the card »viewfinder« used by the master 100 years ago. Looking through these holes, visitors can compose their very own »Klimt landscapes«. The panels further illustrate this journey of discovery with texts in German and English as well as repro-ductions of select paintings, historical photographs and postcards.

Additional information is provided by audio guides that accompany visitors on their walks along the Gustav Klimt Artist Trail. They are available in German and English at the Gustav Klimt Center.
