Paris High School welcomes Eric Masters as the new Band Director and Music Humanities teacher at Paris Middle School and High School. Eric is originally from Lexington, KY and a graduate of Tates Creek High School. He received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Kentucky in 2009 and completed his Master of Education in Instructional Design from Western Governor’s University in 2012. In college Masters was a member of several ensembles, including the Symphonic Band, Trumpet Ensemble, Wildcat Marching Band, UK Pep Band, and even a German- Polka quintet! He served as trumpet section leader for the Wild- cat Marching Band and had the opportunity to travel with both the football and basketball teams. Masters student taught at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington under Jeff Hood. He began teaching as Assistant Band director at Wayne County Schools in 2009 under Rob Rawlings, and later under Andy Critz. Band to Perform “The Asylum” The Paris Marching Band 2014 field show is entitled “The Asylum”. The mu- sical selection includes “Ah-ha” by Imogen Heap, “Creep” by Radio- head, themes from Berlioz and Mozart, and original music by Jordan Williams. The show begins by introducing the audience to patient 2014, who is at the asylum for psychiat- ric help. The first movement depicts the patient’s symptoms, showing a glimpse of the paranoia and auditory hallucinations that have beset her. At the end of the first movement, the patient re- ceives her diagnoses: schizophrenia. The second movement gives the perspective of the patient as she reflects on who she was before the onset of the symptoms that led her to the asylum. The third movement depicts her inner demons as she struggles to cope with the diagnosis. The final movement depicts her slowly coming to grips with who she is. She begins to accept who she is. Drum major this year is Stephanie Baker.
