(makes four bruschetta)
6 stalks steamed asparagus1 small clove garlic, chopped1/3 cup ricotta2 tablespoons olive oilsalt, pepper4 slices of bread
Cut the wild asparagus into 1 inch size pieces. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in small pan. Over low heat, cook garlic for 1 minute. Add wild asparagus, and cook till just tender enough to eat, about 4 minutes or so. Add salt to taste. Set aside.
In a small food processor, blend steamed asparagus, ricotta, 1 tablespoon olive oil, salt and pepper. Toast bread. Divide ricotta mixture between the bread.
ASPARAGUS AND RICOTTA BRUSCHETTA
(serves 4 - 6)
1/2 pound / 1 kilo potatoes, peeled and cut into small cubes5 cups good quality tomato puree3/4 cup chopped onions2 tablespoons butter2 tablespoons olive oil2 tablespoons high quality paprika2 tablespoons dill (or other herb)*1 tsp sea salt3 cups water4 tablespoons fresh lemon juiceextra olive oil for drizzling
Put soup pan over low heat and add olive oil and butter. Add chopped onions and salt and let cook gently for about 10 to 15 minutes, until softened.
Add the tomatoes and let cook briskly for about 10 minutes.
Add the dill, potatoes and water. Stir, and cover. Let cook for about a half hour, until potatoes are completely cooked.
Using an immersible blender, blend until smooth. Add lemon juice and stir well. Taste and adjust for seasoning.
To serve, pour into bowl and swirl on a drizzle of olive oil.
TOMATO + POTATO SOUP
(serves 2 -4 as a first course)
2 tomatoes1 cucumber1/2 green pepper1/2 red onion150 grams of feta cheese2 tablespoons of capers6 olivesolive oiloregano
Prepare this salad only minutes before you serve it. Otherwise it will just get soggy.
Chop the tomatoes into large chunks. Slice the cucumbers. Cut the green pepper and onion into thin slices. Place all in a bowl and top with feta. Scatter with capers and olives and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with oregano and serve.
In Greece the salad comes dressed with neither salt nor vinegar. The salt is provided by the capers, olives and feta. You can add vinegar if that’s your thing, but it’s not traditional.

Doggy BagPack a bag so that you are prepared for anything. Stock it with things like clean-up supplies, a towel or bed so our pets have a place to sleep,
portable feeding and watering bowls, food, water, a pet first aid kit and lots of toys to keep them busy and well behaved.
Doggy PaddleFit your pets with a personal flotation device (PFD). Find one with a lifting handle to make it easy and safe to lift your pets from the water.
Sea Dog Legs.Gradually introduce your pets to your vessel and the water. Give them a chance to explore the surroundings while your boat is docked. Turn on the engine so they become accustomed to to sound, smell and feel. Start with short trips.
Clear The DeckStore away any potentially toxic or dangerous materials such as cleaning materials, fuel and hooks.
Ramp It UpBring a ramp that helps them get on and off-board.
Combat The SunEnsure your pet has shade and plenty of water. Wash the decks down with cold water to protect their paws.
WoozinessIf your pets are overly tired or disorientated, seasickness might be the cause. Some vets recomend ginger, or
medications like Bonine or Dramamine. Consult your vet first.
Prepare a Potty.If you cant make regular stops, make provisions for your pet’s bathroom visits. Bring your cat’s litter box and for dogs, buy a portable dog potty that simulates grass!

If you are interested in yachts, chances are you will want to spend your vacation on your pride and joy. Although one of the many attractions of having your own yacht is that you can take it anywhere with water, there are occasions that you may want to go further than your yacht can. One option is to have your yacht shipped using a service like Dockwise Yacht Transport. Alternatively you could charter. We investigate to understand the differences between charters.
Your first question should probably be where do you want to visit and what kind of experience do you want to have? If you want to be seen, perhaps want to entertain a few clients, then you probably want a luxury yacht with a permanent crew. Your trip might see you switching the harbors of Cannes for the film festival to nearby Monaco for the Grand Prix car racing.
Your experience is highly influenced upon your destination. Visiting Europe, you are going to be able to enjoy lots of cultural activities. Imagine docking in Venice then sailing down the Adriatic to Dubrovnic, Athens, Santorini and other Greek Islands. Destinations like the Caribbean will allow your day to start on crystal clear still blue waters snorkelling and finish at a beach bar watching the sun slipping below the horizon.
As large as the Caribbean is, the experience is just as diverse. The southern Caribbean like Curaçao will offer some of the best sailing experiences , however won’t offer as many activities like quad bikes as the Virgin Islands. Grand Cayman will be great for swimming with Angel Fish, tax free shopping and sitting on gorgeous beaches. St Kitts has a colonial castle and a huge cricket ground for those interested in non-American sports. In fact the stadium capacity is more people that live on the island! St Lucia has to be one of my personal favourite islands in the Caribbean. The volcanic landscape has some of the most rugged yet beautiful vistas, some beautiful beaches. Being able to see multiple locations in close proximity and in just a few days adds to the fun of being able to take your charter wherever you want to go!
Some yacht charters allow very short charters, perhaps just 3 days. This means you could take a trip to Europe and enjoy a luxury yacht like the Coca VI for your vacation. You could pull up into Portofino in style and enjoy luxury accommodation with a guaranteed sea view then enjoy your business trip in Milan.
Other yacht charters are all about the sailing. “Yachts With Friends” for example is a new experience where you become a crew member for a week along with other land lubbers A captain and stewardess ensure you are looked after and it is a great experience to learn how to sail on some fantastic yachts and meet new people. They enthuse that no sailing experience is necessary. They offer very basic rates to be accessible for youngsters and suggest you buy food at the supermarket which you cook on board. This makes the voyages less costly than staying in most hotels, and enhances the do it yourself back packer vibe.
Marine voyages needn’t be on the seas or oceans. As waterways have historically been important for trade, along some of Europe’s biggest rivers like the Danube are some of the most fantastic cities like Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade and Bratislava. There are many river cruise companies doing such and fewer charter companies such as Peter Deilman than on coast lines. Think mega-barge more than mega-yacht! Inland waterways needn’t be to see big cities. The 13-passenger L’Impressionniste from Abercrombie and Kent sails from Avignon through France’s beautiful countryside and wine growing regions of Provence, Camargue and Languedoc. Other important trade routes include the Panama and Suez canals. The Rose of Jerricho is a catamaran offered by Charterworld for The Panama Canal. Imagine the never ending view of sea traffic, rugged edges of the inland seas and of course going up and down the locks.

The most senior position for a flag on a vessel is reserved for
the ensign. It is displayed as close to the stern of the vessel as
possible and denotes the nation of registry – not necessarily
that of the owner. Note that the Euro Zone flag should not
be used, since it doesn’t refer to a nation. The name ensign
is derived from the French enseigne and Latin plural insignia.
In foreign waters, your boat should display a courtesy flag (the
civil ensign of the country you are visiting) whether your U.S.
national ensign is displayed or not. However, when operating
internationally, once in foreign waters you are required to
fly the yellow “Q” Flag or“ Quarantine Flag” until you have
cleared customs.

SAFETY Heavy fouling growth reduces re-sponsiveness of the craft. The added weight of the fouling can make the boat sit lower in the water than intended. This can have obvious implications in heavy weather conditions.
PROTECTION Prolonged growth of certain types of fouling can damage the substrate of the hull. For example, the natural glues used to attach organisms to the hull can damage wood and fiberglass. Fouling can also clog water intakes and cause damage to the engines.
SPEED AND EFFICIENCY Fouling causes drag. As drag is increased, fuel consumption increases and speed is reduced even to the point where a planing hull may not be able to get on plane. For racing boats, this can be the difference between winning and losing a race.
Members receive a discount for all required labor, service parts and fluids used for scheduled maintenance or annual service as well as priority status for service scheduling.

Once fouling has established a hold on a boat’s hull, it will rapidly spread or “colonize” the surface. Prevention is therefore better than the cure of having to remove the fouling by scraping.
