STUDENTS AND HOT WEATHER

RETURN FOR 2014 The start of the 2014 school year was hot in many ways! Well done to our

staff and students for not just a great start to the school year but for dealing

with the hot weather in a ‘cool’ manner. It looks like the hot weather will be

around for quite awhile yet.

All classrooms at KPPS are air-conditioned. Some areas work better than

others, if rooms become too hot, then we have areas like the activity room,

library and upstairs work areas where classes can move to for relief from the

heat. We have been waiting for a long time to have new air conditioning

placed in the southern unit. If you have any concerns about the cooling (or

heating) in this building then we suggest that you voice your concerns.

On days with excessive heat, recess and lunch breaks are shortened and

students are requested to play in the shade. It is important to empty rooms

for a short period of time to refresh and cool the air.

We recommend that all students have a drink bottle with water, hats must

be worn in the yard at all times and we encourage parents to apply 8 hour

sunscreen to their children before departing for school each morning.

CHANGES TO OUR NEWSLETTER

Last year we highlighted that it was time to say farewell to our current paper

newsletter. It has taken a bit of time but we are now ready to go electronic!

Today you will receive a paper copy of the newsletter. It will be the last paper

copy you receive.

WHAT’S NEW?

KPPS NEWS – Emailed to families and accessible from our website (via Issuu) Tuesday afternoon weeks 2, 6 & 10. A link will be emailed to families to the latest issue. KPPS News is a celebration and reflection of school events, activities and programs. It will be packed with articles written by students, heaps of photos and community

information.

KPPS UPDATE – This is an email update of coming events, critical information to share with families and general information about what’s happening at or school. It will be a weekly email to families sent every Tuesday afternoon. Some weeks there might

be heaps of information whilst other weeks might be ‘light on’.

We’re sure there will be a few technical issues as we progress to our new systems so

please be patient as we move forward.

EMAIL ADDRESSES – If you haven’t received emails last week with Fundraising information, then it means we don’t have a correct email address. Please send your

details to [email protected] ASAP so we can update our records.

TODAY’S KPPS NEWS – Your online version of KPPS NEWS is full of pictures from Kidman Celebrates and Graduation compared to our simpler print version. Check the

website for the link.

“Focused on building relationships and laying the foundations for a successful year of learning”

A GREAT START!

CHANGES TO OUR NEWSLETTER

Day one of the 2014 school year

has been one of the smoothest

for many years. Staff were in

rooms looking forward to the

arrival of their students,

everyone knew where to go and

most parents appeared either

happy or relived that the school

term had kicked off! The

atmosphere around our school

has been positive, focused on

building relationships and laying

the foundations for a successful

year of learning.

All staff teams have developed

new Well-being units of work

based around our 21st Century

learning skills to ensure students

understand the qualities of a

successful learner and how to

build positive relationships

KIDMANATHON

This year I will be starting group music appreciation classes for the younger

ones in the school. Years R-2. We will use the recorder to learn the basics

of music notation and music theory. Most kids at this age want to learn an

instrument, but usually their hand size is too little for most instruments.

Music appreciation will allow them at a young age to learn music notation/theory and

then as they grow they can shift to another instrument of their choice with a head

start in music knowledge. Music is a unique way for your child to express themselves.

Lessons will take place once a week.

Costing: $7.00 each child including hiring of recorder.

$19.95 one off book fee.

I currently teach piano and flute at the school, which are individual lessons. So if you

think your child would like to learn one of these instruments or if you have children

interested in the music appreciation classes then please leave your details at the front

office with Carol or you can come and see me at the school on Tuesday or Friday.

This year, our massive student organised walkathon will be held on the

last Friday of term one – April 11th. Put the date in your diary now!

“2014 Sports Teams: Don’t forget reply slips for the yellow note sent home Tuesday are now due back. Some sports teams commence next week!”

This year we welcome

Elise Mabbott (Rm 12),

Noeleen Cox (U6) and Vicky

Mangas (Art/ESL) to Kidman

Park Primary School, keep an

eye out in the next newsletter

to learn more about them.

(Pictured L to R: Elise, Vicky, Noeleen absent)

What we once called ‘Police Checks’ are now called Dept. for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) Criminal History

Screening. To ensure the safety and well-being of our students, guidelines recommend that virtually anyone working

with students must have the appropriate clearance (as listed).

The following volunteers at our school must have a clearance –

attending any excursion (especially when parents supervise small groups), overnight camps/school sleep-overs or

billeting programs

working one to one with children or working in close proximity to children on a regular basis eg LAP, music, drama,

coordination skills etc (this includes a parent working regularly with only their own child but in proximity to other

children)

acting as a coach or manager of teams or groups of children and young people

working in resource centres, offices, canteens

accepting a position on governing council or committees. (This is to protect against people adversely influencing the

protective climate of an education/care environment through the decisions of committees or boards.)

PROCEDURES

Previously all forms could be submitted by KPPS on behalf of

volunteers and the school was able to cover the costs of the

check.

From this Monday (February 10th), new forms will be issued.

Informed Consent Forms – DCSI Screening Unit Child-related

Employment Screening must be submitted to a Post Office

along with a fee of $42.40

A copy of the approval letter must then be given to the school

as soon as it has been received.

Please note - it has taken up to 6 weeks for forms to be processed.
