Bob Anderson posted this to theMinnesota MG Group

Every once in awhile, while crawling in or out fromunder one of my MGs, I either mumble or say aloud- I'm getting too old for this stuff.

Today I was put in my place, when I answered a callfrom a gentleman in Melbourne, FL - inquiring aboutone of my transmissions. He was looking for anoverdrive transmission, which I didn't have. Heremarked that he must have made misread my ad. Headded - that at 93 he makes the occasional mistake.Surprisingly I asked - you have got to be kidding, thatat 93 you still muck around with MGs!!!!

He explained that he has 4 MGs, and if I heardcorrectly just finished or purchased a MGA to add tohis collection which consisted of a Midget, MGBGt,MGB and now the MGA. He did comment that heprobably should start thinking about selling themsomeday, "after all I don't risk buying green bananasanymore."

I closed off with my saying to him that he gave me anew goal.

BASTILLE DAY EVENT AND FRENCH CAR SHOWSATURDAY, JULY 19 • ALLIANCE FRANCAIS, MINNEAPOLIS, MNRECAP BY: MICHAEL BARONE • PHOTOS BY: Andy Lindberg

Though the skies were overcast, the weather wasotherwise perfect for Saturday's Alliance FrancaiseBastile Day party in Minneapolis. Bringing all of theactivity out-of-doors (though risky, given our recentweather vagaries) proved an excellent idea, with theshared dynamic contributing to everything. The foodtrucks provided tasty nourishment (the organic yogurtand fruit sooooo good that I went back for seconds),the evening's music.. for dancing of listening...particularly beguiling in lamplight under the canopy asdusk settled upon us. And the cars!

Though we have done better in terms of numbers, theCitroen Club did itself proud, with representation ofmodels from 1935 through the CX of 1987...we had three2CVs (Grika, Schmidt, Cornell), three DSs (Anderson,Williams, Fantin), one TAV Commerciale (Grover), oneexquisitely detailed SM (I am sorry, but I have yet toregister the name of the proud owner of this car...whom wethank for bringing it out to display!), and one CX Prestige(Barone, with a hot-starting issue that seemed to solve itselfbut put it out of the funning for rides). Also AndyLindberg, wearing his official pale blue MN Citroen Clubshirt (with Linda) showed up with his slinky TriumphTR3...parking it next to Joel's TAV provided a nicearchitectural and color contrast.

Later in the day we were joined by a nice Peugeot 504 sedan(for sale, owner's name not gotten) and Lynn Schulte, theMetropolitan Lady with her diminutive HudsonMetropolitan (also a nice contrast, and English-sourcedcompany for Andy's TR3).

Numerous rides were given to excited and curiousattendees (ranging in age from 8 to nearly 80). Everyonewalked around the cars, snapping pictures and askingquestions. Several became excited about the notion of'manual transmission'...vowing to learn how to shift forthemselves so that next year, perhaps, they could....

We appreciate the invitation from Anna Scallon of AF.We're happy to participate, and look forward to next year!

The fifth annual was again heldat the Woodland Hill Winerywest of Delano. Weather was alot better than it was for the rain-soaked fourth annual. Thirty-sixcars showed up for the low-keygathering in sun-lit bucolicsurroundings. Many of thevehicles were Triumph, but therewas a good showing of Healeysand some other Brits, plusSwedish, German and Japaneseto give it a true intermarqueflavor. No MGs.

Well, they didn’t need crowd control at the July picnic.Maybe ten people showed up in Cherokee Park. It was abeautiful day but attendance was down at the no=hostevent. What was your excuse for not being there? Minewas that I was out giving a retired nun her annualconvertible ride. Top that if you can. Which club wants tohost the August picnic? Britfest made its secondappearance in downtown Hudson. The weather was as glorious aslast year and probably a hundredAnglomobiles lined the street infront of Dick’s Bar (who helpedthe Minnesota MG Group hostthe event and, not incidentally, did a land office business inbreakfasts and Bloody Marys).

The best thing about locating ashow in a place like Hudson is allthe not yet aficionados you get tomeet. And perhaps perk theirlatent interest in the old crocks.

The popularity contest benefitedthe Boy Scouts and they werevery happy with the amount theyraised. Winners received abeautiful red oilcan donated byDick’s. Practical yet distinctive.

Good job MGs. Good job Dick’s.

FOR SALE: 1937 British Railton, Stratton model, Long WheelBase. FPL 106 has a body built by COACHCRAFT, Railton's favoriteBritish coach builder. There is a touch of class in the beautiful andexquisite use of burl wood thru out the interior. The comfortableleather upholstery is tastfully piped in brown trim. The formal roof istrimmed in leatherette and the carpets are of a high quality material.Paint, leather, wood, and chrome have all been restored to a highstandard. The Hudson engines used in the 30's were sensationalwith high performance and well engineered. A powerful straight 8,side valve 4168cc, with a 3 speed gearbox.
