Our companyAutoneum is the global technology leader in acoustic and thermal management solutions for vehicles. The company is a partner for the major car manufacturers around the world. Autoneum employs a workforce of some 9’600 at over 45 locations in around 20 countries worldwide. In 2013, it generated sales of 2 053 million CHF. Autoneum is an independent Swiss stock listed company with its headquarters in Winterthur, Switzerland.

Our areas of expertise: AcousticsOur acoustics experts develop, test and produce vehicle components and integrate them into tailored, multifunctional systems and modules. We utilize comprehensive measurement technologies to characterize materials and treatments and to generate a well-engineered sound package. This systematic approach encompasses specific performance targets for all components so we can integrate the parts into an optimized solution.

Thermal ManagementIn thermal management, we develop products and solutions for thermal protection and comfort. Our expertise is based on experimental tests and numerical simulation methodologies together with test benches and actual running conditions. An example of a multifunctional component is our thermo-acoustic engine encapsulation based on the technology Theta-FiberCell. By keeping the engine bay warm for more efficient cold starting, this inno- vative, multifunctional and lightweight technology saves fuel. At the same time, it reduces engine noise.

Eco-efficiency

New requirements The trend towards smaller, downsized engines requires a different approach due to reduced mass, gasoline direct injection and other factors. New concepts, such as hybrid power trains with their combination of electric drive and supporting combustion engine, need special acoustic and thermal treatment.

Reducing emissionsThe key target of many technology trends is CO2 reduction. New governmental regulations and growingpublic awareness lead to an increased demand for weight-reducing and aerodynamic components. Autoneum is a specialist for lightweight products. For instance, its underbody shields based on Ultra-Silent technology offer acoustic insulation and lightweight aerodynamic properties, thereby impro- ving fuel economy and lowering emissions. Optimized thermal management through engine encapsulation leads to less CO2 emissions.

Minimizing exterior noise A further aspect of increased regulation and a priority in automotive manufacturing is the reduction of exterior automotive noise.
