Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands,

Serve the Lord with gladness;

Come before His presence with singing

Know that the Lord, He is God

It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves

We are His people and the sheep of His pasture

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving

And into His courts with praise

Be thankful to Him, and bless His name

WOF Times provides its readers with relevant and current

information pertinent to the Christian walk and lifestyle. The

WOF Times staff will make every effort to provide material

which is educational, entertaining, encouraging and inspiring.

All of this is done in an effort to assist WOF Times readers in

developing a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.

During this season, survey your own

life and make a list of things for which

you are thankful. Maybe it is the small

favor a friend did for you, the house

you live in, a loved one who phoned to

see how you are, a Bible study group

you're active in, the ability to walk, or

the opportunity to worship freely each

week in God's house. Take some time

to thank the Lord for His blessings and

at least one person who has blessed

your life this year.

I thank You that my family is

taught of the Lord and great is

the peace of my children!

I thank You for life that You

have given to my family to be

able to serve You with gladness

in our heart. All growth begins

with life. I rejoice in the zoe

life of God that indwells my

family so that in You we live,

move and have our being! I thank You for the health

of our bodies, the sanity of our minds, fruitfulness of

our spirits and the flourishing of our finances.

I thank You for blessing my family with health to

have the ability to serve You without distraction. I

thank You that our bodies are healthy, our minds are

alert, and our spirits are receptive and perceptive to

Your will and Word. I thank You that we have an ap-

petite for truth, healthy foods, healthy desires and a

healthy lifestyle.

I thank You for blessing my family with strength of

character and conviction in our heart to serve You

without compromise – strength to do what is right

when we are tempted to do what is wrong and strength

to hold to our commitments and fulfill Your will and

our God-given goals. I thank You that my family is

strong in You and in the power of Your might! I

thank You that we possess a strong will to do what is

right and have strong convictions to abstain from evil.

I thank You that You have not given us the spirit of

fear but of love, power, and a strong, disciplined

mind to serve You and fulfill our purpose.

I thank You for providing divine protection over my

family’s lives to keep us safe from hurt, harm, acci-

dents and molestation. I decree that no weapon

formed against us shall prosper, and every tongue that

shall rise in judgment against us is condemned for

this is our heritage from You as Your servants. Our

righteousness is from You! I plead the precious blood

of Jesus over my family’s bodies, minds and spirits

that You may keep us in perfect peace.

I thank You for giving my family an appetite for wis-

dom to know what to do, when to do, where to do,

with whom to do, and how to do the things You have

ordained for our lives. Thank You for giving us keen

discernment of those who are to be included in our

inner circle. I thank You for giving us wisdom to be

able to see right now the future consequences of our

current decisions! Because evil is a by-product of for-

getfulness, laziness and distraction, may You be

remembered strongly in our minds and produce a

focus that will keep us centered on our God-given

purpose.

I thank You for giving my family influence to lead

others in the ways of righteousness and to fulfill Your

will in the earth. May we have influence to be used as

agents of positive change in the earth.

I thank Your for giving my family uncommon favor

for uncommon results in our lives. I thank You that

this favor will afford us opportunities that will cause

our lives to expand and have advantages for the ad-

vancement of Your Kingdom.

I thank You for giving my family integrity of heart to

make right choices when we are tempted to do what

is easy and expedient rather than what is correct and

necessary. Thank You for empowering us to live in

complete truth with ourselves and others. Further de-

velop integrity in our hearts through Your presence,

Your Word, through the daily discipline of doing

what we know is right to do, and through the godly

example in our home. May this integrity result in

godly character, wholeness and purity and produce

peace and the honor of a good name!

Empower my family to become everything that we

shall have wished we had become when we stand be-

fore You! May my children teach their children about

You by precept and example and teach their children

to do the same with their offspring as a heritage from

You! May Your grace fill our lives with all wisdom

and spiritual understanding to excel and bring glory

to Your majestic name!

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

Empower my family

to become everything that

we shall have wished we

had become when we

stand before You!

“Fight Night at Capacity Conference” by Dr. Charles Houston

W ord of Faith Family Worship Cathedral

hosted its first ever Capacity Pastors and

Leaders Conference Wednesday, October

22nd through Friday, October 24th. The entire confer-

ence was excellent and one of the sessions was partic-

ularly a blessing to all married couples that attended.

Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott gave a marriage seminar

that they called “Fight Night” as part of the confer-

ence. Dr. Les began the seminar by sharing an excit-

ing new premarital assessment tool that is launching

in a matter of weeks.

It is called the SYMBIS assessment (Saving Your

Marriage Before It Starts). It is designed to prepare

and equip engaged and newly married couples for

healthy marriages. The Parrotts believe that a mar-

riage can only be as healthy as the least

healthy person in the marriage. The

SYMBIS assessment creates and gener-

ates a multi-page report to determine the

pertinent characteristics of each spouse

and help determine what needs building

and what needs nurturing.

The Parrotts also gave a strong sample from their

“Fight Night” module. The content was rich with

marital wisdom and conflict resolution nuggets. One

of the many things that stood out for me was the first

reason they attributed to why married couples fight.

It is due to either a perceived threat or a perceived

neglect. Our perceptions are oftentimes not reality but

still as powerful and impactful to us as reality. In ad-

dition to the rich content, I received comments from

attendees about the excellence of their delivery. They

teach and train like a well oiled mentoring machine

and it is ap-

parent that

they are not

just doing

marriage min-

istry. It is

deeply en-

trenched in

their hearts

and their care for couples is evident. We were all ex-

tremely blessed by the “Fight Night” Seminar and

would love to have the Parrotts possibly return some

time in the near future.

After the conference, the Parrotts posted a picture of

them and the Covenant Keepers team on their Face-

book page. The following is the comment that Dr. Les

made concerning their visit. “What a blast to be with

our Covenant Keeper team (Marriage Mentors) in

ATL. These people are doing amazing work to build

strong marriages.” - Dr. Les Parrott.

A poem written for Mother Dorothy Cobb’s

80th Birthday Celebration

Mother Cobb by Dee Myers

Mighty woman of God, that’s who you are!

Oh, the lives you have touched, truly makes you

a star.

Teacher, mother, wife-many roles you have

fulfilled

Hope, joy and laughter in others you’ve instilled

Empowered by the Most High, you have served

Him well!

Beauty defines you-inside and out, bottom to top

Boldly, we say: You’re the Cream of the Crop!

T hey came from near and far: men and

women, boys and girls, teachers and stu-

dents, young and old; all to pay tribute to

one of WOF Cathedral’s most beloved and

faithful servant leader, Mrs. Dorothy Gibson Cobb

(the mother of our first lady, Dr. Nina Bronner). Mrs.

Cobb was feted with an affectionate tribute held at

the Riverside EpiCenter on Saturday, November 15th.

Most of us know her as the leader of the Voices of

Light Children’s Ministry. She is a woman of godly

principles, high standards and so much more! Thank

you, Mother Cobb for your kindness, quiet spirit, and

your love!

Toss 1 pound green beans on a baking sheet

with 6 smashed garlic cloves, ¼ cup water and

1 tablespoon olive oil. Roast at 450°F until the

beans are tender and slightly charred; about 20

minutes. Toss with 2 teaspoons of chopped tar-

ragon and whole-grain mustard. Add salt and

pepper to taste.

Charred Green Beans

2 tablespoons (¼ stick) butter

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 onion, chopped

3 garlic cloves, chopped

2 pounds collard greens, thick stems

trimmed, leaves coarsely chopped

2 cups low-salt chicken broth

1 tablespoon red wine vinegar

Melt butter with vegetable oil in heavy large pot over

medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic and sauté

until tender, about 6 minutes. Add greens and sauté

until beginning to wilt. Stir in broth; bring to boil.

Reduce heat, cover and simmer until greens are very

tender, stirring occasionally, about 45 minutes. Stir in

vinegar. Season with salt and pepper.

Cooking spray

2 medium beets (about 5 ounces each), peeled, cut into

½ inch wedges and patted dry with paper towels

3 small carrots (not baby carrots) (about 2 ounces

each), cut crosswise into 2-inch pieces

1 medium red onion (about 4 ounces), cut into ½ inch

wedges

2 teaspoons olive oil

½ teaspoon dried oregano, crumbled

⅛ teaspoon salt

1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet

with aluminum foil to keep it from getting stained.

Lightly spray the foil with cooking spray.

2. Put the beets, carrots and onion wedges on the foil.

Drizzle the oil and sprinkle the oregano and salt over

the vegetables; stirring gently to coat. Arrange the

vegetables in a single layer so they don’t touch.

3. Roast for 15 minutes. Stir. Roast for 10 minutes, or

until the vegetables are just tender when pierced with a

fork.

Cook’s Tip: Avoid getting beet stains on your hands by

peeling the beets under cold running water.

Based on the life of

Frank A. Bryant,

"From Menace to

Morehouse" is a kid-

school when he was a

boy. Frank draws on

his own personal experience, detailing his remarkable

journey from a troubled youth to an academic inspira-

When Children Should

Stay Home From School

- American Academy of Pediatrics

Fever is the body’s way of destroying the germs

making it sick and it’s a common symptom of in-

fections such as flu. Keep your child home if your

child’s temperature is 101o F or higher. Wait until

your child is fever-free before returning to school.

Diarrhea is often the result of infection, food poi-

soning or a side effect of medications like antibiot-

ics. Keep your child home until stools are formed

and your doctor gives the okay. Make sure your

sick child stays well-hydrated.

Vomiting is another way for the body to rid itself

of the germs making it sick and is usually caused by

a stomach virus or stomach infection. Keep your

child home if your child vomited twice or more in

the last 24 hours. Your child can return to school

after symptoms clear up or your doctor says they’re

no longer contagious.

Severe cough and cold symptoms should keep chil-

dren home from school. A serious cough could be a

sign of contagious conditions like whooping cough,

viral bronchitis or croup. It can also be a sign of asth-

ma or allergies.

Sore throats can be a symptom of strep or a common

cold. If your child has been diagnosed with strep

throat, keep your child at home for at least 24 hours

after starting antibiotics. If your child has a mild cold,

it’s okay to go to school.

Pinkeye (conjunctivitis) is contagious and children

should stay home from school for the first 24 hours

after treatment begins. Symptoms of pinkeye include:

eye redness, irritation, swelling and pus.

Headaches can be a symptom of contagious condi-

tions like viral gastroenteritis, flu, meningitis and strep

throat. Opinions differ on whether a child should be

kept home. If your child doesn’t have any other signs

of illness and feels okay, your child can go to school.

Rashes can be the sign of contagious conditions such

as: chickenpox, bacterial meningitis or impetigo. Chil-

dren should be kept home until they’re diagnosed.

They can return to school after symptoms are gone

and their doctor gives the okay.

Earaches aren’t contagious. There’s no need to keep a

child with a mild earache home as long as your child

feels well enough to concentrate.

Mild cold or respiratory symptoms are no reason to

keep children at home as long as their nasal drainage

is clear and their cough is mild.
