WELCOMEExceptional athletics programs go hand in hand with exceptional academic programs. Johnson & Wales University continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to intercollegiate athletics which serves to enhance recruitment, retention and the academic mission of the University. In return, the coaches, staff and student-athletes, who make up the heart and soul of Wildcat

Athletics, commit to achieving the highest standards of excellence on the playing field, in the classroom, in their professional endeavors and in their communities.

Through conference affiliation, program expansion and the addition of state-of-the-art facilities, we strive to provide a championship experience for the entire JWU community — students, parents, alumni and prospective contributors to our programs. In return, we work tirelessly to build an amazing culture at Johnson & Wales — one of pride and affiliation; one of spirit and tradition; one that truly exemplifies the Wildcat Way. Thank you to the administration, athletics coaches and staff, and most importantly our 400-plus student-athletes who make JWU Athletics something we are all so very proud of as we continue our quest for national prominence and recognition.

Mel Graf Associate Dean/Executive Director of Athletics

THANK YOUThe 2014-15 student-athletes would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to all those who make competing for Johnson & Wales athletics possible.

First, to our administrators: thank you for continually funding what is a huge community at Johnson & Wales and giving the athletes a

home away from home. With your constant hard work, you make sure we have a court, field and rink to always play on — we would be lost without your efforts. You always exceed our expectations and we look forward to the next big step you have planned for athletics.

To our dedicated coaches and trainers: we thank you for getting us physically and mentally prepared for every competition, and for the time, passion and empathy you put into everything you do to make us better athletes, students and overall leaders for the future.

Finally, many thanks to our event management and facilities team who always keeps our venues game-ready. We thank you for your long hours, especially in overtime, while keeping live stats so our families and friends near and far don’t miss a minute. Your dedication to our needs does not go unnoticed.

Thank you all for giving each of us the opportunity to compete and represent Johnson & Wales University. Your efforts make athletics possible, and for that we are immensely grateful.

On behalf of the student-athletes, Natalie DiCocco, SAAC President

CONGRATULATIONSAnother remarkable year of Wildcats athletics has come to a close. The dedication and commitment the student-athletes, coaches and staff display fills me with pride. We continue to outdo ourselves every year in the classroom, in competition and in the community. In 2014-15, a great majority of our teams qualified for post season, capturing five GNAC championships along the way while

maintaining a 3.2 department GPA. We added another All-American to our list, received numerous academic accolades and contributed more than 2,250 hours of community service. We also had a few firsts this year: both the women’s basketball and softball teams captured their first GNAC title.

This year also marks the completion of our 20th year of NCAA intercollegiate athletics. I am humbled by our growth and accomplishments in such a short time. I couldn’t have dreamed that when we started in 1995 with 13 intercollegiate programs and just over 200 athletes that we would grow to what will be 24 varsity teams and almost 500 athletes in the fall of 2015. Additionally, our entire staff of head coaches will be full-time, and everyone within the department will continue to focus on building programs that will enhance our student-athletes’ experience.

As we make this transition I must recognize three very special coaches who will be turning over the head coaching reins this spring. Allan “Doc” Freedman and Adam Spring have been the cornerstones of our men’s and women’s tennis teams for the past 20 years. Between both, JWU captured eight GNAC tennis titles. Adam and Allan will now serve as associate head coaches, continuing to bring their love of tennis and focus on building top-notch quality tennis programs to JWU. Also leaving the helm is Alan Penney, who in 2002 became the first coach of the newly formed sailing team. Under his guidance the team has become highly competitive, consistently building its confidence against top-notch programs.

It is because of the constant dedication to excellence that Wildcat athletics continues to grow, excel and achieve. Together we will work to increase our Wildcat community pride through collaboration, state-of-the-art facilities and a staff that will remain vigilant on our quest to be the standard which all others wish to achieve. The commitment and support that has been provided to athletics has allowed us to plot our future course — one of limitless opportunities. The sky is our limit.
