Celebrating the Sacraments Reconciliation is available on Saturday mornings at Tuncurry from 8am until the beginning of the 9am Mass, on Saturday afternoons at Forster from 4:15pm until 5:15pm, or other times by contacting Fr Andrew.
Baptisms are celebrated on Sundays, either during any of our Sunday Masses or after the 9am Mass. The next Baptismal Preparation meeting will take place in the Parish Hall’s meeting rooms on Monday 12th May commencing at 7pm. Regular Activities in the Parish Secular Franciscan Fraternity The Secular Franciscans Fraternity will next meet on Wednesday 7th May, coming together for Mass at 9am, followed by a cuppa at 9:30am and then the meeting 10am to 12pm.
The menALIVE Groups Our Parish currently hosts two menALIVE groups. The morning group will next meet on Wednesday 14th May after the 9am Mass, while the evening group will next meet on Thursday 29th May at 7:30pm.
Maintenance & Gardening Group The Parish is lucky to be served by a very dedicated band of volunteers who tend to the upkeep of the grounds and gardens of our two church sites. They do a fabulous job, and are always ready to welcome new members to the group. The next date is Thursday 15th May starting at Tuncurry at 8am and then on to Forster. Contact Howard 6557 6826 for more information.
Singing Practice The Singing Group will be having a well deserved break over the next few weeks and will resume on a date to be advised.
Collection of Foodstuffs for Homebase On the first Sunday of each month we undertake a collection in order to support Homebase. The next collection will next take place on Sunday 4th May.
Holy Hour The Parish community observes a Holy Hour each Tuesday afternoon in the Tuncurry Church from 3:30pm until the beginning of Mass at 4:30pm.
Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help The Novena is prayed every Wednesday in the Forster church commencing at 11:15am and is followed by a cuppa in the Parish Hall. Contact Shioney (6554 9468) for more information.
Evening Prayer & Benediction The Parish community celebrates on the first Sunday of each month at 5:30pm in the Tuncurry church. It will next be celebrated on Sunday 4th May. All welcome.
Divine Mercy Devotion Devotions to the Divine Mercy, including the praying of the Chaplet, Adoration, etc will be held today Sunday 27th April commencing at 11am in the Tuncurry church.
The praying of the devotion on this day carries a Plenary Indulgence when associated with the usual conditions.
Fr Andrew to Clergy Conference Fr Andrew will be away from the Parish this week in order to attend the Diocesan Clergy Conference in Kincumber. Your prayers for the clergy during the week would be very much appreciated.
Fr Dennis will preside at Masses on weekdays, and you are asked to contact Greg Byrne in the first instance for any other pastoral need.

From The Pastor’s Desk... With the arrival of the Second Sunday of Easter (or Low Sunday as it used to be called in the ‘old’ calendar) our celebration of Easter Day has come to end, yet the Easter Season will continue until the great Solemnity of Pentecost, which in 2014 falls on Sunday 8th June.
Easter, despite secular belief to the contrary, isn’t over—and there is much more celebration to be had in connection with this central Feast of the Christian life. The question we need to ask ourselves today, and indeed everyday, is how are we going to continue to celebrate Easter—the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus—in our lives this minute, this hour, this day.
And more importantly than celebrating Easter, how are we going to live in the light of Easter, the light of Jesus, not just during the Easter Season that stretches before us, but also across the rest of our lives that stretches out before us from what we celebrated last Sunday, and every time the Church gathers to celebrate, well, anything.
The place of Easter in each of our lives will ultimately dependent upon who we are and where we are in our life’s journey, but Easter will—or should—have a place in our lives. We are, after all, an Easter People, and it behoves us to live as an Easter People.
Over the coming Easter Season, I would encourage you to spend some time reflecting and praying on how you might give evidence to the world of your identity as a member of the Easter People, and how we might together witness to that reality here in the Great Lakes area.
I would like to again thank those who were associated with the celebrations of the Easter Triduum: the sacristans, readers, ministers of communion, and musicians; those who prepared our liturgical spaces, and the Gardening group who made sure our physical environs were tidy and welcoming; those who welcomed our visitors; and, most importantly, you, the worshipping community of the Parish, without whom there could be no celebrations.
As mentioned elsewhere in Bridgeside Bulletin I will be away from Monday to Friday this week in order to take part in the annual Clergy Conference & Gathering at Kincumber. This is an important opportunity for the clergy of the Diocese to get together and receive some input on a range of topics, and spend some time sharing each other’s company. Your prayers would be appreciated.

Parish Dinner This year’s event will be held at the Reef Bar & Grill on Wharf Street, Forster at 6pm on Friday 16th May. Our guest speaker is Brendan Guiney from Mid Coast Water who will talk about “Twinning and Water Aid” in Samoa.
Tickets are $30 and include a 2 course meal. They are available for purchase today and over the next few weeks outside the churches after Mass, or, alternatively, you can contact the Parish Office.
Secondary School Enrolments St Clare’s High School, Taree is now accepting enrolments for Year 7, 2015. Forms for enrolment may be collected from the School Office, or an information pack can be posted to you by contacting the School on 6552 3300.
Families with students enrolled in a Catholic primary school will receive an enrolment form via their school.
Tri-Diocesan Covenant Service The Tri-Diocesan Covenant Ecumenical Service will be held on Thursday 29th May beginning at 7:45pm at St Peter's Anglican Church, East Maitland.
All are very welcome to attend this joyful and popular service.

Silence in the Liturgy We observe silence during our liturgy (on Sundays and weekdays) at the following times: 1. During the Penitential Act, after the Presider invites
us to prepare ourselves “to celebrate the sacred mysteries” in order to recollect ourselves;
2. During the Collect, after the invitation of the Presider to “Let us pray” again in order to recollect ourselves;
3. During the Liturgy of the Word, at the conclusion of the first reading in order that we might meditate on what we have heard;
4. During the Liturgy of the Word, at the conclusion of the second reading in order that we might meditate on what we have heard; and
5. During the Liturgy of the Word, at the conclusion of the homily in order that we might meditate on what we have heard.
Parish Social Justice Group The next meeting of the Parish Social Justice Group will be held on Wednesday 30th April at 5:30pm in the Parish Hall Meeting Room.

Social Justice and Human Rights You are invited to a free public talk by Mark Isaacs about the Nauru Detention Centre to be held on Sunday 4th May 2014 at at 2pm in the Holy Name School Hall, Lake Street, Forster.
"How long will we be here?" one man asked. Nobody could answer him. Nobody knew. The intention was clear: this was the No Advantage policy. Take them to a distant island, lock them away, punish them, forget about them. Criminals were given a sentence to serve, these men were not even given that. Lost hope ebbed out of the men in uncontrollable sobs and tears. Queue jumpers, boat people, illegals........... Asylum seekers are contentious front page news, but obtaining information about Australia's regional processing centres is increasingly difficult. We only learn what the government wants us to know.
Mark Isaacs worked for the Salvation Army inside Nauru Detention Centre soon after it re-opened in 2012. He provided humanitarian aid to the men interned in the camp. What he saw there moved him to speak out. Mark's confronting book, entitled The Undesirables, chronicles his time in Nauru, detailing daily life and the stories of the men held there; the self-harm, suicide attempts and riots; the rare moments of joy; the moments of despair. Mark's eyewitness account humanises a political debate usually ruled by misleading rhetoric.

The Great Lakes Rural Australians for Refugees invites local communities to Forster on Sunday 4 May to hear a compelling account of the human reality of Australia's Pacific Solution.
We also evangelize when we attempt to confront the various challenges which can arise. On occasion these may take the form of veritable attacks on religious freedom or new persecutions directed against Christians; in some countries these have reached alarming levels of hatred and violence. In many places, the problem is more that of widespread indifference and relativism, linked to disillusionment and the crisis of ideologies which has come about as a reaction to anything which might appear totalitarian. This not only harms the Church but the fabric of society as a whole. We should recognize how in a culture where each person wants to be bearer of his or her own subjective truth, it becomes difficult for citizens to devise a common plan which transcends individual gain and personal ambitions.
In the prevailing culture, priority is given to the outward, the immediate, the visible, the quick, the superficial and the provisional. What is real gives way to appearances. In may countries globalization has meant a hastened deterioration of their own cultural roots and the invasion of ways of thinking and acting proper to other cultures which are economically advanced but ethically debilitated. This fact has been brought up by bishops from various continents in different Synods. The African bishops, for example, taking up the Encyclical Sollicitudo Rei Socialis, pointed out years ago that there have been frequent attempts to make the African countries “parts of a machine, cogs on a gigantic wheel. This is often true also in the field of social communications which, being run by centres mostly in the northern hemisphere, do not always give due consideration to the priorities and problems of such countries or respect their cultural make-up”. By the same token, the bishops of Asia “underlined the external influences being brought to bear on Asian cultures. New patterns of behaviour are emerging as a result of over-exposure to the mass media… As a result, the negative aspects of the media and entertainment industries are threatening traditional values, and in particular the sacredness of marriage and the stability of the family”.
