    On behalf of the entire cast and crew of the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, I invite you to another exciting season of Arts and Entertainment.

    The Yamato Drummers of Japan – just one of many exciting performances we have in store for you - have a motto: “Go anywhere if invited, and make the world a little more happy.”

    In this booklet, you will see just some of the artists and events we have planned for the 2013-14 Season – from intimate concerts and laugh-out-loud comedy to Broadway musicals and Oscar-winning films.

    As always, we will unveil additional presentations throughout the season, so watch for our postcards and emails, follow us on Facebook and Twitter and bookmark kirbycenter.org.

  • YOUng peOple’S theAteRConsider it edutainment. It’s the best of both worlds as the F.M. Kirby Center provides school-day productions that are both entertaining and educational.

    Each performance comes with its own study guide that brings the lesson from the stage into the classroom. It’s affordable, too. Tickets are only $7.00 each, and every 16th ticket is FREE.

    teACheRS’ in-SeRViCeTeachers, learn more about how you can earn Act 48 Credits, as the F.M. Kirby Center partners with N.E.I.U. 19 in offering a professional workshop aimed at helping teachers bring arts and education into their respective classrooms. Our professional workshops also include a tour of our historic theater and a Q&A session with cast members.

    MASteR ClASSeSWorking with national tour companies, the F.M. Kirby Center also provides Master Classes to students and teachers studying dance and theater. Our Master Classes feature hands-on instruction direct from the touring professionals.

    This season, we will hold Master Classes for students attending Driving Miss Daisy, Carmen, The Onion Live! and more.

    KiRbY KiDzThe F.M. Kirby Center is proud to once again partner with the Harris Conservatory for the Arts to offer the Third Annual Kirby Kidz Summer Theater Workshop. This exciting program, unique to Northeast Pennsylvania, is designed to offer that “Kirby Experience” to all aspiring school-age actors, singers and dancers.

    The seven-week workshop begins at the end of June and focuses on acting technique, theater fundamentals, vocal performance, dance terminology and technique and much more. The children’s hard work culminates in two live performances on the Kirby Center stage. This year’s title will be announced soon and will take place on Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17, 2013.

    Join Doktor Kaboom for a sidesplitting journey of increasingly spectacular (and often successful) science experiments designed to involve, excite, educate, and entertain.     Theatreworks USA presents a musical based on several books about Junie B’s first grade experiences. The connective tissue tying the stories together is Top-Secret Personal Beeswax: A Journal by Junie B (and Me!), featuring diary entries by Junie, which are designed to give children ideas for their own writings.     Do you Know… The Kirby Center prides itself on Arts in Education. We foster an appreciation for the performing arts for our children and underserved. The following programs are part of Kirby Center Arts in Education.

    Young People’s Theater Series. Through this program, the Kirby Center has been offering affordable tickets to children’s theater performances for 25 years.

    Community Outreach. The Kirby is proud of our partnerships with local nonprofit organizations who serve the less fortunate members of our community, providing free tickets.

    Master Classes. We provide the opportunity for free lessons with professionals who visit our region to perform at the Kirby Center, in the fields of ballet, dance and music.

    Teacher Arts Training. In this program educators are trained to integrate the arts into multi-disciplinary curricula and results in teachers earning continuing education credits accepted by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

    Artist Outreach. When groups or individuals are unable to physically attend performances at the Kirby Center, we bring the Kirby Center to them!

    Random Acts of Culture The Kirby works with local performing artists and organizations, forming partnerships to bring the cultural arts into the public eye.
