Jody Sears is cur-rently in his second season as head coach at Weber State. He came to Weber State in January 2012 as the defensive coordinator and was named head coach in April 2012.
In his first season as a head coach he led the Wildcats to a 2-9 re-
cord, including wins over conference rivals Southern Utah and Idaho State. In the season-ending 40-14 win at Idaho State the Wildcats rushed for 417 yards, the fifth most in school history and senior C.J. Tuckett set a school record with 289 rushing yards.
His Wildcat team had seven All-Conference perform-ers in 2012, led by junior linebacker Anthony Morales who earned second team All-Conference honors. Morales led the Big Sky and was third in the nation in tackles. The Wildcats also had 12 student-athletes that earned Big Sky Academic All-Conference honors.
Sears has nearly 20 years of coaching experience. Before coming to Weber State he spent the past three seasons at Washington State where he spent the last three seasons as the co-defensive coordinator with the Cougars under head coach Paul Wulff, a for-mer college teammate at Washington State. He also coached the cornerbacks at his alma mater.
He is no stranger to the Big Sky Conference as he spent five seasons (2003-07) as the defensive coor-dinator at Eastern Washington, also under Paul Wulff. During his time with the Eagles he coached safeties, linebackers and defensive backs. In his five seasons at Eastern Washington he coached seven players to Big Sky All-Conference honors.
Prior to his time at Eastern Washington Sears spent three seasons (2000-02) as an assistant coach at Army where he coached cornerbacks and the defen-sive line.
In 1998 he was the defensive coordinator at St. Am-brose University, an NAIA school in Davenport, Iowa. He began his collegiate coaching career at Iowa State in 1994 where he spent three seasons as a graduate assistant with the Cyclones, helping coach the defen-sive backs and wide receivers.
Sears played football at Washington State where he was a two-year letterwinner with the Cougars after walking on as a wide receiver. He played under head coaches Jim Walden, Dennis Erickson, and former Weber State head coach Mike Price. He graduated from Washington State in 1991 and received his mas-ter’s degree from Iowa State in 1996.
Sears was born Oct. 21, 1967 and is a native of Pull-man, Washington. He and his wife Molly are the par-ents of five children: Weston, Hannah Jo, J.T., Kylee Ann and Charlie Ray.

Message From the President It’s an exciting time to be a Wildcat! It’s an honor to be associated with the Weber State University Wildcat Club, a membership organization dedicated to providing athletic scholarships to Weber State Univer-sity student-athletes. Currently, there are over 300 Wildcat student-athletes who will benefit for a lifetime, thanks to the generosity of the many members of the Wildcat Club.
In addition to meeting and interacting many of these athletes, I’ve also had the good fortune to watch many of them perform in their sport, but their achievements in the classroom are even more impressive. These student-athletes have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.2 while perform-ing at the high level it takes to be a college athlete. This requires a great deal of hard work and dedication.
The Wildcats continue to be recognized on a national level in many areas. We will continue that tradition with your continued help and sup-port. These student-athletes are our future. Our community has a rich
tradition of growth and prosperity as a result of Wildcat Athletics . On behalf of the many volunteers and Wildcat Club supporters, I encourage you to get involved and I thank you for your support. Go Wildcats!

The Champions Club is the premium level of the Wildcat Club. The Champions Club level is unique in that its annual donations go into the Pro-gram Enhancement Fund, which was created to provide assets that will give Weber State Athlet-ics the resources to handle sport needs as they arise. Membership and benefits are exclusive and will be limited to 15 donors.
Resource allocation will be limited to coaches’ compensation and incentives, facility improve-ment and equipment upgrade and replacement.
For more information on the Champions Club or the Program Enhancement Fund, or to become a member of the Champions Club, contact Di-rector of Intercollegiate Athletics Jerry Bovee or Wildcat Club Director Becky Thompson.

Jerry Bovee was named Di-rector of Intercollegiate Ath-letics at Weber State Uni-versity in September 2009.
Since joining the Wildcats Bovee has been influential in several facility upgrades at Weber State. A new state-of-the-art Daktronics video board was installed at the Dee Events Center,
giving fans a new way to enjoy men’s and women’s basketball games. In addition, a new synthetic turf field and new track have been installed at Stewart Stadium. WSU has also refur-nished the Edmond Tennis Courts on campus.
He has also been involved in the hiring of new employees within the athletic department including a new Senior Woman’s Administrator, a new Marketing Director, as well as new volley-ball, women’s basketball, and softball head coaches. He has also partnered with KP Sports for WSU’s corporate sponsor-ship opportunities.
Prior to being named Athletics Director, Bovee spent two years as Assistant Vice President for Administrative Support Servic-es at Weber State. In that role he supervised operations for the Academic Services and Athletics Compliance for the Athletics Department, and directed Campus Police, Mail Services, Print-ing Services, Environmental Health and Safety and the Dee Events Center and Stewart Stadium operations.
Bovee assisted in the completion of the year-long NCAA re-certification process for the Wildcats serving as chief report writer and liaison to the NCAA Peer Review Team. In addition, he has supervised the initiative to improve the Academic Per-formance Ratings for Weber State’s 16 athletic teams.
Before coming to Weber State, Bovee served as Assistant Director of the Utah High School Activities Association. His duties included organization and management of state tour-naments, coaches and officials education programs, sport rules interpretation and a myriad of other duties related to the administration and governance of sports and activities at the high school level throughout Utah. While at the UHSAA, Jerry served as vice-chair of the National Federation of State High School Associations football rules committee.
Bovee worked as Sales and Promotion Specialist and later as Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions at Utah State from 1992 to 1995. In that role, he directed the corporate sales program for Aggie Athletics. In addition, he developed group and corporate ticketing plans, in-game pro-motions and other game management programs.
Bovee earned a bachelor’s degree in Business-Finance from Utah State University in 1992. In 2010 he earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from Weber State. He was born and raised in Ogden Utah and attended Ben Lomond High School.
Bovee and his wife Julie have four children: Jared, Ethan, Addison and Seth.

Elizabeth Dee Shaw Stewart Stadium
Located on a hillside above the city of Ogden, and with the waters of the Great Salt Lake shimmering in the distance, there are few sta-diums anywhere which can match the natural surroundings as well as Weber State’s Stewart Stadium.
In the summer of 2011, a new artificial turf field and a new track were installed in the stadium, giving the Wildcat Football and Track and Field programs state-of-the-art playing surfaces. The project was funded from a generous donation from the late-Robert Marquardt and Annette Marquardt-Kimball. A second phase of the project is planned that will renovate the north end of the stadium into “Marquardt Plaza” that will pro-vide a main entrance into the stadium with new restroom and concession areas.
The area itself has been used for games, long before the present school site was even in existence. During the mid 1950’s, while the majority of campus of what was then Weber Junior College, was located downtown, the foothills section which today is the site of the university, was purchased with an eye to the eventual move. The football stadium was one of the first structures built. The earliest games played there had minimal seating, located on the nature hillside on the east side of the field. This was later made into permanent concrete bleachers and went through three subsequent expansions.
In 1966, the west stands were added and the area became a stadium, not just a playing field. The seating in the Stadium was raised to just over 17,000, a modern three story press box was added, and in the space underneath the west side seats, were placed dressing rooms, training room and athletics department offices.
Thanks to a generous donation from the Stewart Education Foundation, Weber State opened the 38,000 square foot Sky Suites & Press Box Facility at the start of the 2001 football season.
This facility put the Wildcats’ home on par with the best Division I facilities in the country. The six-story complex includes 26 sky suites, press facilities, a conference level and a Wildcat All-American room.
Views from the facility are breathtaking with the Wasatch Mountains to the East and the city of Ogden and the Great Salt Lake to the West.
The Stadium itself is located approximately 4,300 feet above sea level. The playing surface is natural grass, surrounded by a 400 meter purple track. The entire area is encompassed by trees and shrubs, giving it a “park-like appearance”.

The Big Sky Confer-ence celebrates 50 years of men’s athlet-ics and 25 years of women’s competition during the 2013-14 academic year.
The venerable and stable Division I Big Sky Conference ob-served its 50th birth-day on July 1, 2013. To mark the historic occasion, the league will honor its past by
commemorating its top male and female athletics, as well as the top moments and teams.
Four of the current league members – Idaho State University, The University of Montana, Montana State and Weber State – have been with the league since its birth. Fellow charter member the University of Idaho will bring the majority of its sports back to the Big Sky on July 1, 2014. Northern Arizona University enters its 45th season in the league, giving the league five members with at least 40 years of continuous membership.
The Big Sky Conference welcomed North Dakota and Southern Utah on July 1, 2012 as full members. UC Davis and Cal Poly joined as football affiliate mem-bers. Eastern Washington University, the University of Northern Colorado, Portland State University and Sacramento State round out the current membership.
The league has become one of the strongest Division I conferences in the West and is a national leader in the Football Championship Subdivision. Six times, Big Sky teams have won the Division I National Champi-onship, including Eastern Washington in 2010. A Big Sky team has played for the national championship in three of the past five seasons. The Big Sky is one of three conferences in the western United States play-ing Division I football.
The Big Sky Conference was established in 1963 by six charter members – Idaho, Idaho State, Gonzaga, Montana, Montana State and Weber State. Those six schools formed the foundation of the Big Sky before the league expanded in 1970 by adding Boise State and Northern Arizona. Gonzaga left the Sky in 1979 and was replaced by Nevada, which gave the league eight members. The conference grew to nine schools in 1987 with the addition of Eastern Washington.
The 1990s saw change in the makeup of the league, beginning in 1992 when Nevada departed and put the Big Sky back at eight teams. In 1996 Boise State and Idaho left and at the same time the conference add-ed Portland State, Sacramento State and Cal State Northridge. The Big Sky maintained nine teams for five years before Cal State Northridge departed in the
spring of 2001.
The Big Sky now includes nine states spanning from the Pacific Ocean to the Red River Valley of North Dakota. The league is represented along the entire west coast with institutions in Washington, Oregon and California. League schools also range up and down the Rocky Mountains with institutions in Mon-tana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Colorado. It is “The Heart of the American West.”
On Feb 25, 1963, the name Big Sky was adopted by the six presidents of the charter members as the name of the new conference. The name Big Sky origi-nated in a novel written by the late A.B. (Bud) Guthrie of Great Falls, Mont., in 1947 entitled “The Big Sky.” Jack Hollowell, a former Montana advertising director, promoted the Big Sky theme for the Treasure State. While on a track and field trip from Pocatello, Idaho, to Missoula, Mont., legendary Dubby Holt of Idaho State saw a “Welcome to Big Sky Country” sign as his team entered Montana. Holt, and his athletes thought “Big Sky” would be a perfect name for the new conference. Harry Missildine of the Spokane Spokesman-Review called for the newly formed league to be named the Big Sky Conference in his column dated Feb. 20, 1963.
The Big Sky sponsors championships in 15 sports, including men’s and women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, basketball and tennis. In addition, there are also championships in football, and women’s volleyball, golf and soccer. The Big Sky sponsored softball for the first time in 2013. Men’s golf will return as a conference sport in 2014-15.
In 1988-89, the Big Sky Conference first began spon-soring women’s sports. The former Mountain West Conference existed from 1982-88, sponsoring cham-pionships for women’s sports at the same institutions the Big Sky had men’s programs. The Big Sky merged with the Mountain West in 1988, forming one league for both men and women.
Doug Fullerton, the fifth commissioner of the Big Sky Conference, is in his 19th year at the helm. Fuller-ton took over the Big Sky on July 1, 1995, replacing longtime commissioner Ron Stephenson, who passed away in 2011. Stephenson served the league for 14 years. Steve Belko was the commissioner from 1977-81, while John Roning held the post from 1971-77. The first league commissioner was Jack Friel, who served from 1963-71.
