Dear “Wicked Rugged” Customers,

The 2011-2012 season has been Van Berkum Nursery’s best yet, and you made it happen… Thank you!

What is this little booklet? We have begun releasing our catalog every other year and a supplement in the years between. Why? Our website provides more information than the catalog possibly can, along with current availabilities, which are updated weekly. Our newsletter emails are also posted weekly during planting season and include the following:

• Information on the nursery and plants.• Lists of what plants are in stock.• The crops that will be ready soon.• Comments on what each crop looks like that week.

You’ve told us that this weekly update is useful to you, especially the comments we give on the condition of each crop. Are they blooming, floppy, providing excellent foliage or nice seed heads, etc? We still love paper books, so keep that 2012 catalog in your truck or office and just stick this supplement in the back flap. Can’t find your catalog? Let us know and we’ll send you another one!

What else is new at VBN?• We are growing almost 100 new varieties. We have been listening

to you and focusing not only on our Wicked Ruggeds, New England Woodlanders® and Meadow native lines, but also adding further new “hot in the trade” varieties.

• We completed our biggest custom grow job ever, growing 26,000 plants for one customer in New Hampshire. We enjoyed the challenge, and the landscape customer, landscape architect and their clients were also happy. We’d like to incorporate more custom growing in the future and are willing to grow in your specified sizes for a competitive price.

• We are building a cover over our order-staging area. This will allow us to do a better job cleaning, labeling, counting and maintaining quality control on your plants before delivery. This will really help on those cold, rainy spring days!

• We are growing many more varieties in our True Gallon pots, and it is proving very popular.

Hope to see you at New England Grows (we are booth #2053) and in the spring! Have a peaceful and healthy winter.

Peter and Leslie van Berkum
