Fertility TestingAll bulls have been semen tested and their fertility is guaranteed.

RegistrationsRegistration papers will be transferred on each bull to the new owner upon com-plete settlement.

SALE ORDERThe cattle will sell in catalog order. For the safety and well-being of humans andbovines we no longer sell through the ring. All bulls are penned for easy viewingand then are sold via large screen TV, this has proven to be a faster more efficientway of selling.

RETAINED INTEREST BULLSWe are retaining a 1/2 interest or 1/3 interest in all bulls as denoted in the catalog.We are selling the remaining interest, full possession, and full salvage value onthese bulls.We also retain a breeding interest, for in-herd use only, in all otherbulls in the catalog.We reserve the right to collect semen at the convenience of thebuyer.

TRUCKING ARRANGEMENTSDelivery is free to central points in Montana. For more distant locations, we willassist in making delivery arrangements at the lowest possible cost. There is a $25discount per bull if hauled sale day.We ask that no cattle be loaded until after thesale. Feed costs will be covered by sellers until April 9th, 2013, after which a feedcharge per day will be added to the purchase price. Free delivery to volume buyers.

What a great purchase EXT 7455 has been for us. Many of his sons have topped our recent sales,selling to purebred and commercial operations. His daughters are highly sought after and some al-ready in donor programs. It is almost impossible to find a proven sire that matches his numbers.

WHY EPDS ARE SO IMPORTANTGLOSSARY OF TERMS

Genetic predictions in the form of EPDs are a cattle producer’s most powerful tool for making informed breeding decisions. AnEPD, or expected progeny difference, is just what it sounds like. It is a prediction of the difference between the average performanceof future progeny of an individual and the performance as compared to all other individuals in the breed. In other words, they are acomparative prediction of genetic merit. The Red Angus Association implemented Total Herd Reporting (THR) in 1995 which re-quires that the production and performance of all animals in the Red Angus herd book be accounted for annually. THR enables RedAngus to have the most unbiased and reliable EPDs in the industry and allows producers to make selection decisions with confi-dence. EPDs are the only way to compare animals across all herds in the country. RAAA has focused its recent efforts on developingEPDs for Economically Relevant Traits (ERTs). ERTs are those aspects of fertility, calving ease, stayability, and maintence, which di-rectly affect your profitability.

BW: Actual birth weight of an animal205 AWW: Adjusted Weaning Weight. An animal’s actual weaning weight adjusted to 205 days of age and age of dam.365 AYW: Adjusted Yearling Weight. An animal’s actual yearling weight adjusted to 365 days.WR: Weaning Ratio. How an animal’s 205 AWW compares to all others in his contemporary group. 100 is average.ADG: Average Daily Gain. The average number of pounds gained on test.YR: Yearling Ratio. How an animal’s 365 adjusted weight compares to all other animals in his contemporary group. 100 is average.EPD PERCENTILE RANKING: Where an animal ranks when compared to all bulls/females in the breed. For example, a bull/femalewho ranks in the top 2% ranks above 98% of his contemporaries.

CED EPD: Calving Ease Direct. Calculated on a percentage basis, the probability than an animal’s calves will be born without assis-tance to a two-year old heifer.BW EPD: Birth Weight. Number of pounds difference that an animal is expected to produce at birth compared to the average of allbulls/females in the breed.WW EPD: Weaning Weight. The number of pounds heavier or lighter at 205 days of age that this bull/female can be expected to pro-duce compared to AWWs from all bulls/females in the breed. YW EPD: Yearling Weight. The number of pounds heavier or lighter at 365 days of age that this bull/female can be expected to pro-duce compared to the average 365 AYWs of progeny from all bulls/females in the breed.MILK EPD: Milk Production. The number of pounds heavier or lighter at 205 days expected from this bull’s/female’s daughtersthrough milk production alone.TMAT EPD: Total Maternal. The total amount of weaning weight expected from a bull’s/female’s daughters’ calves through milk pro-duction plus growth potential.ME: Maintenance Energy. The difference in energy requirements of a bull/female as compared to all other bulls/females in thebreed. The calculation includes body weight, condition score, and milk. HPG: Heifer Pregnancy. Calculated on a percentage basis, the probability than an animal’s daughters will conceive to calve as two-year olds.CEM EPD: Calving Ease Total Maternal. Calculated on a percentage basis, the probability that an animal’s daughters will calve unas-sisted.STAYABILITY: The probability that a cow will remain in the herd for a period of 6 years. Given the primary emphasis in most herdson pregnancy, stayability is likely to be more a measure of sustained fertility than anything else. Stayability is calculated on a per-centage basis.MARB-MARBLING EPD: The expected progeny difference of marbling score in a bull/female as compared to marbling scores of allother bulls/females in the breed.YIELD GRADE (YG): predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade score, and is expressed in USDA Yield Grade units. YG EPD is calcu-lated using the genetic predictions of CW, REA and FAT EPDs. The reliability of Red Angus’ YG EPD is enhanced by using both ultra-sound and actual carcass data in the calculation of REA and FAT EPDs.CARCASS WEIGHT (CW): predicts differences in hot carcass weight and is expressed in pounds. Because Red Angus’ CW EPD is amulti-trait model which includes birth, weaning, and yearling weight data, the prediction is not subject to culling bias. Thus, it pro-vides a more reliable EPD as compared to only using actual carcass weights. This computation allows for the use of weights taken on~57,000 animals per year as compared to only ~1,500 animals per year with actual carcass weight observations. Increased CarcassWeight tends to detrimentally affect Yield Grade; the calculation of which also includes Rib Eye Area and Fat Thickness.REA-RIBEYE AREA EPD: The expected progeny difference of ribeye area of a bull/female as compared to the REA of all otherbulls/females in the breed.BFAT-BACKFAT: The expected progeny difference of the depth of fat cover in a bull/female as compared to all other bulls/females inthe breed.BREED AVERAGES: The average EPDs of all animals in the breed in any given category.

TERMS: Terms of the sale are check or cash. Every animal willbe sold to the highest bidder. The right of property shall notpass until after complete settlement is made. All settlementswill be made with the clerks of the sale immediately followingthe conclusion of the sale and before any cattle will be releasedfrom the sale facility or ranch.

BIDDING DISPUTES: The auctioneer will settle any disputes asto bids, and his decision on such matters shall be final.

RETAINED INTEREST:We are retaining a 1/2 interest or 1/3 in-terest in all bulls as denoted in the catalog. We are selling theremaining interest, full possession, and full salvage value onthese bulls. We also retain a breeding interest for in-herd useonly in all other bulls in the catalog. We reserve the right to col-lect semen at the convenience of the buyer.

SEMEN RIGHTS: Buyers receive semen rights proportional tothe interest purchased. If you purchase a 1/2 interest then youare entitled to 1/2 of the semen collections at cost provided thatyou indicate you want semen prior to collection. We intend tocollect some of the bulls in the sale and sample them in ourherd. We will cooperate with the buyer in collection of the bull.We prefer to collect most bulls after the first season of use andwe will contact the buyer when we intend to collect the bull at atime convenient for the buyer.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the pur-chaser as soon as sold. Animals will be fed, watered and caredfor at the purchaser’s risk until April 9, 2013. After that, therewill a per day feed cost added to the purchase price, payable be-fore possession occurs.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Changes of information contained in thiscatalog relating to the animals offered for the sale will be an-nounced from the auction box and such announcements shalltake precedence. Errors discovered in the catalog will be cor-rected by announcements at sale time and such corrections willtake precedence over the printed matter in this catalog.

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE: All animals sold are guaranteedbreeders by the sellers. Any animal that has not proven itself asa breeder within six months after date of sale, if in healthy con-dition, may be returned to seller at buyer’s expense. The sellerreserves the privilege of trying, for a period of six months, toprove the animal is a breeder. The seller, at his option, may ei-ther replace the animal with another of equal value or grant thebuyer a credit for use on any cattle marketed by the seller in full

settlement and transaction of ALL claims. Yearling bulls shallbe guaranteed breeders for no more than 25 females. All com-plaints regarding breeding difficulties must be reported in writ-ing by the buyer to the seller within the specified time above,and any animal returned must be free from disease and in goodhealth and condition. All animals are guaranteed to be breed-ers, with the exception of: a) calves under twelve months of age;or b) animals shown by Purchaser after sale (in case of animalsshown after purchase the breeding guarantee, if any, shall besuch as agreed upon between Seller and Buyer; or c) gross neg-ligence or willful misconduct on the part of the Purchaser.

OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT:All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writingeither within six month of the sale date or no later than sixmonths after the animal reaches 18 months of age with theexception of claims involving defects or parentage.

FERTILITY: All bulls are yearling virgins. Each bull has been fer-tility tested and examined for soundness. Scrotal dimensionswill be taken day of fertility testing and will be posted on website and on supplement sheet sale day.

LIABILITY: Neither owners, sale managers, clerks nor anyoneconnected with the sale assumes responsibility, legal, or other-wise, for damages of any kind. Any person attending the saledoes so at his own risk.

CONTRACT: The above terms and conditions shall constitute acontract between the buyer and seller of each animal sold.

IDENTIFICATION: Each animal carries a readable tattoo. Thetag numbers on the cattle correspond with lot and tattoo num-bers in this catalog.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry and trans-fer will be provided on all bulls sold.

IMPLIED WARRANTY: Except for those stated in the terms andconditions, there are no warranties, wither expressed or im-plied, as to merchantability or fitness for a particular purposewith respect to the cattle being sold in this auction. The war-ranties set fort in terms and conditions are in lieu of all otherwarranties, either expressed or implied and the remediesproved therein shall be the sole and exclusive remedy of thebuyer, or any part claiming through buyer, for any breach ofwarranty or guarantee therein provided and all other obliga-tions or liabilities.
