Meet Zohha Tariq, who in her two short years of volunteering at Allen has logged over 100 hours of service. Born and raised in Pakistan until just a few years ago, Zohha lives with her sister and brother-in-law who are both physicians. As a high school senior at CFHS, she serves on the Teen Trust with the NEIA Community Foundation; Harmony, a diversity awareness initiative; volunteers as a teacher’s assistant after school to help peers with their Spanish studies; serves on a senior leadership group at CFHS; volunteers for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank; and participates in an Islamic girls youth club. She started volunteering at Allen to explore different medical professions and as way to give back to the community. “It’s exciting and you get a break from your daily routine. My favorite part is delivering flowers to patients and seeing how happy and appreciative they are for my work,” she said. She believes life is a precious gift and that everyone should enjoy every second of it.
When asked what her most rewarding experience has been in her life so far, she replied that the nomination for the YWCA’s Women of Persimmon Young Woman of Tomorrow award felt like a reward for her dedication and hard work. We agree, and so did the YWCA – Zohha was honored at a luncheon on Thursday as the recipient of that award. Congratulations on the much-deserved recognition, Zohha. We are proud of you and are so glad you’re one of our volunteers!
