2013 Rewind . By: David Duong

Continued from page 1 ... The Typhoon Haiyan that

struck the Philippines was a tropical cyclone that hit Southeast Asia during early November, and was one of the most devastating occurrences of the year affecting the Philippines, Micro-nesia, and Vietnam. On a smaller scale, there was also the Boston Marathon bombing that occurred on April 15, 2013. The explosions of two pressure cooker bombs right by the finish line sadly resulted in 3 fatalities and left many racers injured. Also, there have been deaths of celebrities and icons that have affected many people: fans, friends, and family.

Two notable deaths were “Fast and Furious” actor Paul Walker and activist Nelson Mandela.

Walker’s life was claimed by a car crash, while Mandela passed of a respiratory infection.

Now, on a happier note, a pop culture rewind to technology.

Many new innovations to recent technology have been devel-oped such as the release of Apple’s new operating system: iOS7, along with the unveiling of the iPhone 5s and 5c on September 20, 2013.

Samsung also released the Samsung Galaxy 4 to rival Apple’s iPh-one 5 earlier on in April. The Playstation 4 was also launched mid November 2013 as well as the Xbox One . Vine, a mobile application owned by Twitter, was released Janu-ary 24, 2013 on the Apple App Store and later accessible by Android and Windows phone users.

The app enables users to cre-ate and post up to 6 second long, looping videos for others to see.

A popular “Vine Sensation” to mention would be Terio, a young child recorded by his older cousin, “Maleek,” dancing to his encouraging

words “Ooh kill em”. This became popular all

throughout Vine and over the Inter-net to the point that a song and sig-nature dance was created in Terio’s honour.

Now if anyone reading this has seen the MTV Video Music Awards, they would remember Miley Cyrus’ shocking performance of her song “We Can’t Stop.”

The music video for the song was “interesting” and grabbed a lot of attention, especially thanks to Mi-ley’s new look and performing style which shocked fans all over.

Many more events have oc-curred, and please do not be offend-ed if some have not been mentioned.

This article is to merely enter-tain and somewhat inform.

Lest we forget, Sharkeisha. But that’s a story for another time, or for you to find out on your own.

Dear Mac,

If you could switch faces with

However, when he chopped off

The end.

The New Year took off with celebrations, and London, Dubai, and New York are having a fun time. Especially the celebrations held in Time Square, where there was horn tooting, the wearing of funny hats, cheering, and some…you know…smooching.

Also, the iconic crystal ball was dropped at midnight in the freezing cold weather of New York City’s Time Square ring.

During New Year’s, Justice Sotomayor, U.S. Supreme Court led the 60 sec. countdown where he pushed the 2,688 crystals around New York City.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg was also on his last day of office and where he worked for 12 years. The next elected Mayor, Bill de Blasio, took the job at midnight at his home in Brooklyn.

In London, they welcomed

some futuristic fireworks as well as their annual torch-lit tradition that was an explosive display with peach flavoured snow (WOW!!), edible banana confetti, and orange-scented bubbles (oh em gee!).

But even as we are celebrating the New Year’s, it is important to remember that there is still misfortune happening around the world. So don’t take what you have for granted.

New Year’s Celebrations . By: Kenny Montalbo

Here in Winnipeg, there were lots of events during New Year’s Day, especially at the Forks; there were a total of 9 events.

One event is called the Arctic Glacier Winter Park. Within that event are 2 rinks: the Canopy Skating Rink, and the Olympic-Sized Skating Rink.

The Canopy Skating Rink is just artificial; it just remains there during the winter and stays like that till the

spring. Music is also played to accom-pany skaters.

The Olympic Skating Rink adja-cent to the Scotiabank Stage and is there for skating and hockey games.

It is usually maintained every day for Hockey nets and warm up shacks which are provided.

There are also other events like Toboggan Hill, Festive lights which enhances the Winter Park.

Another event is called the Scotiabank Buskers Festival. Buskers are street performers that perform for tourists.

If you missed out on any of these activities, make sure to catch them next year, and have a great new year with the whole family.

View of Times Square on New Year’s Eve

It’s now 2014. It’s time to start fresh. Start anew. Start as a whole new person. It’s time to make the resolutions that people strive to complete. A New Year’s resolution is a goal or promise made at the begin-ning of the year.

People make resolutions at the start of the year, as is the time to start anew. That time is similar to go-ing to a new school, when a student may want to create their image.

The resolution often differs between each person. The resolution that is set usually reflects on a per-son’s own concerns such as being overweight, or a pessimist. That per-son would try to eliminate their flaws.

Those whom have no con-cerns set a resolution which would further improve their self or another. An example would be donating. A resolution, however, needs to be reasonable or even possible to complete. For example, losing 20 pounds in a week is not only impracti-cal but dangerous.

Aim for something that can be reached. An example would be to lose a pound per week for three months. Completing a resolution often takes a lot of dedication. There are resolutions that need to be completed over a long period of time or are just hard to do.

Dedication allows people to endure the many challenges they may encounter on the way to complete a resolution.

Without the dedication, a res-olution becomes very difficult to com-plete. Every challenge one could en-

counter makes one feel demoralized or want to give up entirely. To help ensure a resolution is completed, one must first plan out how they are going to approach it. Being organized makes it easier to complete a resolution.

Completing a resolution with others is also a good method to en-courage yourself or even others. At the start, it may be easier to start off slowly.

An example would be to re-strict eating junk food on every day of the week except Mondays. Later on, one can completely stop eating junk food.

Doing it slowly allows one to get used to it; it makes the lifestyle change easier. Initiating a paradigm shift in a lifestyle is hard. Taking it easy in the beginning is not. While trying to accomplish the resolution, keeping track of progress on a notebook (or digital device) is a good way to follow the plan.

First of all, it shows how far one has gone. It also reveals whether they need to improve the plan in or-der to meet the resolution or adapt to the situation one may be in. At first, completing a resolution may seem slow and impossible. That is when dedication and patience is needed the most.

The beginning is considered to be the hardest part. When the pro-gress builds up, looking back seems short.

Progress also makes people feel positive that they are becoming closer to completing their resolution. After the beginning, it becomes

easier as a person becomes used to it. At that point, the plan becomes inte-grated into a person’s lifestyle.

When the resolution is finally complete, you can look back, feel proud, and become a new person.

Most importantly, completing a resolution enables bragging rights.

Chinese New Year . By: Regine De Quiroz

The New Year has arrived and is celebrated in different ways.

People are often confused as to how New Year’s is being celebrated the most common way and how Chi-nese New Year is celebrated.

The most common New Year that is celebrated is on the date of January 1st.

Many people celebrate on the evening of December 31st as it is New Year’s Eve and wait for midnight as they celebrate to wel-come the New Year.

Parties are thrown at rela-tives and/or at friend’s homes. This is a time where everyone gets together and to look back on the things that happened through out the year.

This time is where we see the things we appreciated through out the year: the happy times, the things we are thankful for, the people we are surrounded by and many oth-er things.

There are also times where peo-ple go out to celebrate to watch the fire works that occur during the time of it hitting midnight.

Fire works are said to be a sym-bol to set off the marking of the New

Year at midnight. Music may also be played as fire works are being blown into the skies.

Earthsky.org has said that the New Year has been dated as January 1 out of no specific reason. Our cele-bration of New Year’s is based on the ancient Roman custom.

A God named Janus was two faced, that represented the past and

present. That’s where the name Janu-ary originated. As January is the first month of the year, it is a representa-tion of the new, hence the New Year.

Chinese New Year is quite different from the usual New Years that is being celebrated.

Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full moon 15 days later.

Chinese New Year falls on a different day every year. The New Year is based on lunar and solar movements.

The first New Moon of this year will be on January 31 2014 and that’ll be the date of when Chinese New Year will celebrate their way of the New Year.

The holiday is meant to be spent with family as it is a time to get together and be grateful for all the things that have been present through out the year. This holiday is a religious time, where a ceremony is given in honor of Heaven and Earth, the Gods of the household and the family ancestors. Though we celebrate New Years in many different ways, we all have one thing

in common and that’s the value we have of being very thankful for every-thing the year has brought as how we celebrate the New Year with friends and/or family.

Fireworks in the Philippines . By: Grace Gelo

New Year's Eve; not just a time for celebra-tion, but a time to reflect and recollect memories on the past year.

It is tradition to have huge gatherings with family, cook delicious food and make some New Year’s resolutions. And of course with happiness, there comes consequenc-es.

2014 came quick-ly, and with that hospitals in the Philippines started to prepare their first aid kits and make room for the patients that will be checking in once New Year’s hit.

In the past, there have been numerous incidents in the Phil-ippines involving celebrating the New Year, such as purchasing illegal fire-works and injuries from them because of improper handling.

In fact, typing into Google “New Years Injuries” will result in Phil-ippines being the second suggestion.

Earvin Pineda, a student at DMCI, reminisces celebrating New Year’s in the Philippines as if it was just yesterday.

He immigrated to Canada with his family in the fall of 2009 and says, although he enjoys New Year’s here in Winnipeg, if he had the chance to fly home to celebrate New Year’s, he would definitely do it in a heartbeat.

With the Philippines having warmer weather, there is no doubt the festivity is evidently high in that country.

The problems that come with unfortunate mishaps that happen during New Years in the Philippines are that most stores selling fireworks are not licensed to sell the product, the product is illegal, and non-supervised curious children get too close to the fireworks.

This year, two people were killed and over 600 people were in-jured on January 1st, 2014.

According to BBC's website, “The Department of Health says the injuries are up 43% from last year,

despite efforts to make the 2014 fes-tivities safer than previous years.”

Speaking from personal expe-rience, Earvin adds, “Thankfully, my neighbours knew how to play it safe. They've lit fireworks and I haven't seen anyone get hurt.”

Just as many say, “Happy New Years!” and celebrate with close fami-ly and friends when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, there are many different things people do when the clock reads 12:00 am.

Simply put, as much as people want to be as safe as possible during this special occasion, the number one thing that is best to do is celebrate responsibly.

Don’t Drink and [D] r [i] v [e] . By: Regine De Quiroz

What better way is there to celebrate the New Year, than to celebrate it with friends and family and have a blast!

This is probably the best time there is to be with friends and family as the New Year begins.

You will be able to feel the ease, relaxation, and the welcoming of the people in your surroundings.

You reflect on your year and how you’ve taken things into account, realizing who was there all year, mistakes and changes and much more.

The New Year can have you look within yourself and how you plan to start the New Year in a new way.

As we celebrate the New Year at home, at a friend’s or other

relative’s houses, we have to make the commute.

It is understandable that many people want to enjoy the New Year and cheer to the New Year with a toast of wine, a shot or any other alcoholic beverage.

But, we hope that no one used the New Year as an excuse to drink and drive this holiday.

It is also understandable that you need to make the commute from place to place, but driving when intoxicated is a high risk, not only for yourself but to every other pedestrian out there.

People think that New Year’s Eve is the night where most drunken accidents happen, but little do they know it is only the second to

Thanksgiving to have the largest drunk driving fatalities.

According to dui.lifetips.com, every half-hour, one person is killed due to drunk driving. Each year, approximately 16 000 are killed in alcohol related crashes.

Drunken driving accidents are five times more likely to occur during the night.

As we start the New Year we hope that everyone makes the right decisions in 2014, since many people think that it’s okay to drink a little and commute from place to place.

Hope everyone had the best holiday and Happy New Year!

Dreams. Most of us have them. I'm not talking about goals for the future however, what I'm talk-ing about are the dreams you have when you're sleeping. Here's something to think about though. What happens when you wake up in the middle of a dream? Or when all of a sudden that perfect dream you were having be-comes your perfect nightmare? If this is the case, you might be having a night terror, which is basi-cally a rush of fear that interrupts your sleep state. The beginning symptoms aren't fun, you start breathing heavier and your heart rate increases.

On the bright side you can log those minutes for gym class! (Just kidding!) The crappy part however, is that you may begin screaming uncon-trollably, waking up in the middle of your sleep. This episode can last as long as 30 minutes. It's a rare case but the per-son having the night terror may be so engaged in the fear that absolutely no one will be able to snap them out of it until they stop. Meaning absolutely no one will get sleep. So just what are the causes? Well get ready because they're about to hit real close to home. One of the causes of night

terrors is STRESS. That's right. A busy or de-manding life, cramming for those ex-ams, constantly being on the go. Some other causes are drug use and fevers, but fortunately for you fellow reader, it's said that people be-come immune to night terrors by the time they're teenagers. Our very own psychology teacher Mr.Dixon had told me that “the mother’s diet plays a role in whether or not their children will ex-perience night terrors during their life”.

Bombing in Russia By: Grace Gelo

(Continued from page 8 …)

That means if you experience this phenomena but you’re a healthy person, it’s probably not even your fault. This brings into account the nature versus nurture factor. Not to mention the fact that if you experience Night Ter-rors, you may be traumatized throughout life and require professional help! That doesn't mean you need to be afraid but it does mean you need to sleep responsibly!

The main railway of Volgograd, which was bombed on December 29, 2013.

Russia experienced a rush recently when not one bombing, but two, within 24 hours of each other, happened in their country.

One targeted the main railway of Volgograd and one, a trolley bus. This, itself made international news but what governors and officials feared were the upcoming Olympics hosted in the Black Sea Resort city of Sochi.

The Winter Olympics in February is only a month away, yet many fear the safety of the Olympians from the suicide bombing in a train station in Russia on December 29, 2013.

As reported by The Globe and Mail, they confirmed that 15 people were killed and over 12 wounded.

As the explosion in the railway of Volgograd is said to be caused by a bomb-in-a-bag by officials, terrorism is the main concern for Russian officials and their citizens, as their country is hosting the Olympics in Sochi.

The Government of Russia have taken serious action in ensuring the safety of everyone, with a record-breaking security system comprising of over 30 000 police guarding areas in the Sochi.

These unfortunate tragedies have been dubbed “The most violent in Europe today” according to the International Crisis Group.

What’s SKAT? . By: Regine De Quiroz

As explained on pagat.com, Skat is a card game that originated in Germany. It was learned in the 19th century and is a three player game.

The general principle of the game is that there are exactly only three players, at the beginning of each deal, only one player becomes the declarer and the other two players become the defending team.

The two defenders are not allowed to communicate with one another other than by their choice of cards to play.

The game can also be played by four players, but the dealer will sit out once that hand was dealt.

The game is played with 32 cards, cards of 7, 8, 9, 10, jack, queen, king and ace in all suits, if using the French deck.

Some players in Eastern and Southern Germany and Austria prefer to use the German decks with the

suits of bells, hearts, leaves and acorn. The 32 cards being used are 7, 8, 9, 10, Unter, Ober, King and Daus.

Mr. Paul has a history of playing Skat with his friends. Noticing that many students of Daniel McIntyre play cards games, he thought Skat would also be an ideal game for students to learn to play.

Having taught around 30 students last year, per say only around 8 or 9 students really got the game fully.

Starting the club again has been difficult for Mr. Paul due to the students that have already learned have graduated and teaching Skat is

difficult, complex game. Mr. Paul also noticed that

students mainly play ‘Pusoy Dos’ and ‘Crazy 8’s’ during their spare time and that these games only require a certain amount of thinking, technique and strategy.

Mr. Paul thought that students need a new interesting card game to play. And Skat was the perfect thing.

Mr. Paul explains that this game takes hours and hours to learn due to it being an endless amount of strategy, technique and critical thinking to be used.

Skat is such a captivating game; it’ll have your mind challenged, unlike any challenge your mind has ever dealt with before and can solve.

For students who love a challenge, learning new things and using their brain, this could possibly be the best game out there for you.

The challenge of this game will definitely have you on your tip-toes wanting to learn and master this game.

Frozen at the Forks By: Grace Gelo

Slip, slide, and skate away! It's that time of year again, where snow falls and the temperature drops and causes the ground to freeze and turn into ice.

And as for many Winnipeg-gers, this means planning to head down to the historic Forks market and going ice skating.

For beginners, there is a little rink under the canopy at the Forks where concerts are held during the summer.

This sport is exciting for all ages that even kids as young as four years old already know how to skate.

And there is no reason not to be endeavouring- firstly, the cost is inexpensive; only $3 for a pair of rent-al skates for children under 12 and $5 for adults.

Secondly, there is no limit as to how long you can have them other than the time the rink is open and closed.

Lastly, this sport gets your

heart pumping as it quickly teaches you stability.

As ice skating is an annual event in Winnipeg, many new skaters grab the opportunity to try it when they can. In fact, the little rink under the canopy of the Forks often gets crowded.

For the advance skater, they can choose to go down the plentiful Ice Paths if they want a challenge. One person who is a good skat-er and always enjoys a challenge is Deb Ugalde.

His first activity of 2014 was heading down to the Forks with friends.

“Even -53 weather didn't stop me from going!” jokes Deb in an inter-view.

Unfortunately on January 2nd, the little rink under the canopy filled with people quickly, ay which he was compelled to go down one of the ice paths.

“The ice there is really slip-pery, and there are holes in the path which

people need to look out for,” Deb con-firms.

One lesson he learned is that you can never be too over-dressed for the weather!

“Even the heat generated by your body when ice skating isn't enough when the weather is -30 or lower. Bundle up!”

After ice skating, be an adven-turer and enjoy a stroll around the Forks Market, which offers a wide va-riety of multicultural food stores at reasonable prices.

A truly diverse place, the Mar-ket boasts over 20 ethnic shops, so there is something for everyone.

While there enjoy the safe environment and live music provided by talented people on guitars, banjos, and harmonicas. Feel the diversity in seeing flags from all around the world hanging above you.

In addition to ice skating, great food, music and atmosphere work hand in hand in giving people a memorable experience. Skating at the Forks runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, so make sure to grab some ice!

Ice path at the Forks.

The DMCI Varsity Boys Basketball team drove out to Brandon on December 12th, 2013, for the annual Brandon Sun Spartan Invitational Tournament.

Space was limited so only fourteen players were given the opportunity.

The trip cost the boys $80 each, but included driving costs, tournament costs, and accommodations. Not to mention the great food.

“My favourite part of the trip was the free buffet style breakfast!” says team member Michael Weiss.

The team was invited to the tournament along with a few other Winnipeg schools such as the Kelvin Clippers and the Vincent Massey

Trojans. The tournament is held every year and is one of Manitoba’s largest basketball tournaments. It invites some of the best teams from across the province to compete in some friendly competition over three days. 32 teams attended the tournament this year and the games were held in five area schools in Brandon. All teams were guaranteed five games, and our Maroons faced schools such as the Glenlawn Lions,

Kildonan East Reivers, and Lord Selkirk Royals.

The boys were in Brandon for about three days, arriving back in Winnipeg late Sunday night, the 15th of December.

In between all of the basketball games, the boys also got the chance to explore a little bit of Brandon.

“We went shopping at Sobeys and Superstore.” Says Weiss.

The trip cost the boys their first game in their home tournament, the DMCI Invitational Tournament, but they were more than willing to make it up the next day. On Monday, December 16th, the day after returning from Brandon, the Varsity boys played two games in one night.

Their dedication to the game is clear by their willingness to play at least one game almost every day for about a week.

However, it seems clear by their performance in both tournaments that these boys are very passionate about the game. And they are not nearly done.

The basketball season is still going strong, and plans to attend another out-of-city tournament are being made. There are rumors of a trip to Regina for yet another basketball tournament.

More information about the Brandon Sun Spartan Invitational tournament can be found on the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association website as well as the Basketball Manitoba website.

Welcome back fellow Maroons! We here at the DMCEye hope that you all had a great holiday full of fortune and rest. The latter of which you will all be needing because there’s still one more semester left! You’ve all made it this far in the year, so keep pushing through! Although we are half way through the school year, we have only just begun a new calendar year. For some people, this means a brand new start. For others, it’s just another day on their calendar. For the optimistic few that believe in change and self improvement, the custom of making New Year’s Resolutions is a common endeavor. But the truth of the matter is: most New Year Resolutions are empty promises. However, that is only if you make them so. In a recent study done by the University of Scranton, only a mere 8% of New Year’s Resolutions were perceived as successful and completed. This highlights one implication pertaining to the general population: we as a society cannot follow through with what we say, making us somewhat unreliable and stagnant in our own personal development Even if this is so, do not be discouraged by this. Do not let yourself become a statistic. Don’t let yourself become a plain number. Follow through with your New

Year’s resolutions or if that’s not your thing, start off the new year on a brighter note; a clean slate. Do whatever you please as long as it follows along the lines of becoming a better person. You’ve still got another 345 days of this year. Don’t let them go to waste. So go on and hit up the gym just to feel and be healthier. Study harder to bring up your grades. Talk to that person you’ve been meaning to talk to. Go do something out of your comfort zone. Do some or all these things because eventually, it is the decisions that were not made that end up

mattering the most in life, and you don’t ever want to live with such regret. Maybe even make this your New Year’s resolution: Be better than you were yesterday. It’s as simple as that. Why? Because you all know that you’re capable of it. So stop putting it off for a later date and get it done. Change starts with an individual and later grows to affect a population. Your time starts now. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

Asham Advice

How do you keep moving forward when nobody believes in you?

It starts with you, first and foremost. You have to believe in yourself. Forget what anybody else tells you. So what do you do when nobody believes in you? You keep moving forward regardless of your mistakes because that’s the only way you’re going to reach success. See, when you try to better yourself, people are going to put you down, and life is one big lesson. So you’re going to make mistakes. You’re going to contradict yourself so you can learn how to keep your word. You’re going to get put down so you can learn how to rise up. You’re going to get rejected so you can learn how to accept yourself. So when you get to the point where it’s just you and nobody takes you seri-ously anymore, keep going. You’re on the right track.

The words of Dory from Finding Nemo: “Just keep swimming.”

Badabababa. I'm not loving it folks. Fast food increases both the chances of disease in our bodies and death. Excessive intake of fast food increases cholesterol levels and can have an overall negative impact on our health. The "foods" served at these restaurants, if we want to call them that, are packed with high fructose corn syrup which is known to cause cancer, diabetes, disorders and a very slow but early death that we won't even see coming. Ironically enough this famous ingredient causes accelerated aging and can actually worsen diabetes in those who already have it. You can bet that this ingredient is in every single soft drink served at our fast death joints. Artificial dyes are also used on a majority of the googlymoogly that is served to us and is linked to ADHD in a

generation that already has enough trouble focussing as it is because of the distractions we're hit with. Without even knowing it we're ingesting soap, nail polish, and tattoos, because artificial dyes are used in all of these! Another dangerous ingredient is Sodium Nitrate, a preservative that is used on the franken-meats in many of these covert drug centres disguised as restaurants. This ingredient is connected to heart disease and oxygen related issues in babies. Once again, this is an ingredient that can be linked to cancer. Aside from the ingredients, we've got to ask ourselves the logical questions. Where does all that "meat" come from? Is there some big farm we don't know about called winter land? Where do all these cows and pigs come from in that whopper

burger or that egg mcsausage or whatever it's called? Do we see what goes on in these so called farm and factories? What are we really eating? Why are there cancerous ingredients in these foods that have the potential to make us sick and rob our futures? Who's Ronald McDonald, and why did the chicken cross the road? At the end of the day it's our body. We're going to do what we're going to do but we've got to adapt and improve. Cause something's not right. Rich Man, Poor Man A Poem by Jerick Reyes and Asham Cooke

I have my cake and eat it as well,

I hand my plate back to you, with an expression rather swell,

Obsessed with with the next man and what they’ve got,

My empty plate contains a lot, it compensates for what I’m not,

Decisions, decisions, With so much time,

Constantly gaining more and taking what is mine, With fancy blinds, that’s my kind of style and this watch on my hand gives me more than a while,

I was born at the finish line, So asking for seconds is no crime,

I have my cake and eat it too, I own time, even thirds will do because I started at the

finish line, And I’ll end with these hands in my pocket,

My watch, my coat, my cake, I made it, I was born the man the moment I was created,

My cake sure was great. Too bad no one ever got a taste,

I try to repair my life with duct tape, But the adhesive can’t piece together what I’ve

already shattered, No one told me how to climb this ladder,

Now I’m still hoping for a clean slate, I held my life like a pencil,

Hoping I can draw luck, I’ve eaten lies without utensils,

No one told me life would be tough, My mind is no longer my mind,

Because it thinks about what others think, I’ve created several scenarios,

But negative to positive never link, So I’m stuck in a world where life is a one way road,

If only money was there to hold, And I’m stuck thinking it’ll get better one day,

But a poor man is a lost man, with regrets as a sense of pay.

ful teachers

“What is you fondest High School

Memory?”

My fondest memory in Gr.12 is my being in the mu-sical called “The King and I” at Kelvin High School. My friends and I decided to try out just for fun and we actual-ly were picked! I was one of the dancers, wearing a full costume, and we had 3 shows. It was a pretty amazing experience and I had lots of fun performing.

- Ms. Nario My fondest memory is the intramurals at DMCI where students played against teachers in all kinds of sports once in every 1 or 2 months in the gym. It was pretty fun and everyone enjoyed these “tournaments”.

- Ms. Machado

My fondest memory of when I was in high school was becoming MVP of my soccer team in 1984, and ask-ing a short girl with glasses to be my grad date 6 months before grad. I also traveled to Flin Flon for a soccer tour-nament and I enjoyed staying in hotels. During the whole year, my team gave up one goal including the provincial tournament and scoring 2 to 0 over Maples.

- Mr. Dixon My fondest memory is me being the class president at DMCI. There were lots of activities and one of them was called freshy week where the seniors adopt a fresh-men for a week and make them do their bidding, like ty-ing their shoelaces. It’s a way to connect between the younger and older students and to have fun.

Aries It’s probably been frustrating having to buckle down and com-ing back to school after such a long break. But now’s not the time for you to lose patience and give up; Now’s the time for you to put the rest of your energy towards doing well on the exams. Study hard and be sure that you (yes you in particular) don’t leave everything until the last minute. Taurus It’s exam time and it might not be the most comfortable time for you. However, you’ll find success figuring out which subjects require the most time. Slow and steady wins the race, so there’s no rush! You’re fully capable of making a plan and following it. Gemini It’s probably difficult for you to focus after having such and ex-citing break! You might be too busy thinking about how much fun it was. Avoid letting this interfere with your studies and schoolwork and you should be fine. You’re very communicative so ask for help when you need it, and help others! You’ve got a lot of energy; the key is to put it into the right spot at the right time. Cancer It’s the last stretch of the semester, however you’ve got to avoid stressing. You might spend more time stressing over how much there is to do instead of actually moving, so instead of going into panic mode and overthinking, just dive into the books and get on those studies. You don’t have anything to worry about; you’re just a deep thinker. Don’t let your gift become a curse! Long answer should be no problem for you, especially if you’ve done your homework. Leo Hopefully you came back roaring to go. You take pride in your work just like you take pride in yourself. Use that to your ad-vantage during studies and exams. Just remember that there’s always room for improvement. Virgo Stay calm and collected during this time. You’ll make sure any-thing you do get’s done well, so don’t worry too much about how well you’re studying or how you’re going to do the exam. That could distract you and cause you to waste energy on things that don’t need it. Let things flow naturally and you’ll probably surprise yourself by the results you produce.

Libra Take a balanced approach to studying. Not too much of it, but not too little! Make sure you set time aside to socialize with other to avoid loneliness and stay up to date with last month’s assignments to keep the stress levels low. You’re probably not too worried anyway and you shouldn’t be. Scorpio You’re gifted when it comes to solving mysteries because you are a mystery, so use your investigative abilities to your ad-vantage while studying. You should be set for things such as multiple-choice because you can easily pick apart the good from the bad. You’re careful and you take your time. You REALLY don’t have anything to worry about. Sagittarius This last month should be a breeze for you because you can’t stand stress. You’ve probably set things up for yourself that allows you to spend the least possible amount of time studying, yet get the most out of it. Use consistency and discretion. You understand that it’s not all about working hard. It’s about work-ing smart. You get it, and that’s why you’ll succeed. Capricorn You’re not going to allow yourself to do poorly on the exams, whether you’re stressing out or not. You literally have the abil-ity to block out your feelings until you get a job done. You’re capable of doing the work regardless of how you’re feeling. Capricorns have got a very STRONG sense of discipline. Study responsibly and make smart choices. Nothing can get in the way of your success unless you (literally) let it. Aquarius You’re an outside-the-box kind of thinker, so your mind isn’t confined by restrictions. You can take fiction and fact and for the most intelligent response that might not have even crossed the minds of others. Since you’re willing to take many risks, You’ll find good fortune on the exams, especially with multiple-choice answers. Your mind is original yet you’re capable of some serious logical thinking, which gives you the ability of pro-cess of elimination. You’ll just enough studying while still main-taining your freedom. Pisces Instead of studying like everybody else, get creative and make your own study habits. You’ll do especially well in subjects that you’ve got an interest in because when you’re interested in something you put your heart into it.
