2013 UE Softball

Mark RedburnHead Softball Coach

Mark Redburn looks to continue to raise the level of expectations as he enters his fourth season as head coach of the University of Evansville softball team. Between his second and third seasons with the squad, they increased their number of wins by 50% while improving the level of play on the field and in the classroom.

His 2011 team posted a 3.149 GHis 2011 team posted a 3.149 GPA en route to earning NFCA honors while several individuals in each of his seasons at the helm have been honored for posting GPA's over 3.50. In 2012, Kayla Fortner led the turnaround at UE as she was named to the NFCA All-Region Second Team while her along with Katie Sears were Second-Team All-MVC honorees.

Inheriting a 2009 squad with only Inheriting a 2009 squad with only four conference wins on the season, Redburn quickly began to transform the program in preparation for the 2010 season. The product of the rebuilding year was an 18-34 record with 10 conference wins and a spot in the Missouri Valley Conference Tour-nament.

No stranger to success, Redburn came to UE after serving three years as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of Missouri. Primarily working with the pitchers and catchers, Redburn helped lead the Tigers to an overall record of 137-53 during his stint. In his final season at Missouri, Redburn and the 2009 squad set a school record for victories, fin-ished second in the Big 12 Conference, won the Big 12 Tournament, and then won Regional and Super Regional championships to advance to the College World Series.

Redburn began his collegiate coaching career as head coach at St. Charles (Mo.) Community Col-lege from 2001-2004. He led the 2003 team to its first Region 16 championship and a seventh place finish at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. His 2004 squad set a school record with 33 victories. He spent the next two years as head coach of the new softball program at Jefferson College. In the program’s first year of competition, in 2006, he led Jefferson to a 49-16 record, the Region 16 championship, and a ninth place finish at the NJCAA D-I National Tournament.

“Mark has an outstanding personality and he’s been a winning coach everywhere he’s been,” said UE Director of Athletics John Stanley. “He is the caliber of coach who can build on the tradition at the University of Evansville and make our program stronger.”

A native of St. Charles, Mo., Redburn graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1993 with a degree in special education. He later received his master’s degree in Athletics/Activities Administration from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo. He and his wife, Tracy, have two sons—Joe (15) and Jack (12).
