back to her alma mater.
We hope you enjoy the conference and learn how to apply your top five signature themes to your

About Our Keynote Speaker
It's Not What You Do, It's Who You Are
Picking a major, landing a first job, building a resume...These activities can be all-
consuming. But underlying these choices is a deeper set of talents, passions and natural
abilities. Find out how your signature strengths can be a compass for understanding who
you really are and where those strengths may take you.
Dr. Anne Harbison is a 1989 Miami graduate and the Founder and Managing Partner of
Leadership & Learning Solutions, a management consulting firm creating transformational
development experiences for leaders across the world. She started her career at Procter &
Gamble in Brand Management, went on to receive her doctorate at Harvard University and then
spent seven years with Gallup's Executive Leadership practice. Anne is passionate about helping
leaders build on their greatest talents to create meaningful, lasting change in their organizations
and communities. She lives with her husband and two children in Minneapolis, MN.

What is StrengthsQuest™? For years, people have invested in the belief that one must “fix” one’s weaknesses. Strengths-Based
Leadership, a concept created by the research-oriented Gallup Organization, challenges this belief.
StrengthsQuest™ is grounded in the theoretical perspective of Positive Psychology. As highlighted by
Gallup, this perspective focuses on what is positive and normal about people, rather than focusing on their
deficiencies or abnormalities.
Similarly, StrengthsQuest™ Program’s framework is built on two concepts: talents and strengths.
According to Gallup, a great number of talents naturally exist within each individual, and individuals can develop
their talents into strengths by refining their knowledge and skills. A talent becomes a strength when one is able to
provide consistent, near-perfect performance in a given activity. In other words, the StrengthsQuest™ Program is
based on the following six principles of human nature and behavior:
1. You have a group of talents within you.
2. Your greatest talents hold the key to high achievement, success, and progress at levels of personal
excellence.
3. Becoming aware of your talents builds confidence and provides a basis for achievement.
4. Learning how to develop and apply strengths will improve your levels of achievement.
5. Each of your talents can be applied in many areas including relationships, learning, academics, leadership,
service, and careers.
6. As you develop and apply strengths, your achievements will increase and you will experience greater and
more frequent successes.
StrengthsQuest™ is a tool designed to help students identify and understand their top five signature themes
of talent out of 34 different themes. It begins with the Clifton StrengthsFinder™ assessment , which has been taken
by more than 9 million people around the world. After completing the assessment, individuals receive a customized
report that lists their top five signature themes of talent in the order in which they are most dominant. The report
also lists action items and recommendations for how individuals can develop their talents into strengths with the
goal of being successful in all contexts of life--academic, career, and personal.
Discovering and understanding their personal strengths can help students become better leaders, group
members, and citizens. Ultimately, StrengthsQuest™ helps students to answer the questions “Who am I?” and “How
do I best contribute to make this a better world?” As Clifton and Anderson—the developers of StrengthsQuest™--
state, “In a sense, the development and application of strengths generates a feeling that you are fulfilling your
personal destiny.”

Leadership Workshops
Whale Done! Using Positive Reinforcement to Influence Others Benton Hall Room 115 Cody Garcia-Pusateri, Resident Director/First Year Adviser
Ever wonder how the trainers at Sea World get the world's largest predator to jump through a hoop? Utilizing
concepts from the works of Bolman and Deal, Kouzes and Posner, and from Ken Blanchard's book "Whale Done!",
this presentation will focus on using positive reinforcement strategies to motivate supervisees and peers to
accomplish organizational goals. Individuals will understand organizational models, the importance of investing in
people, and why reframing how you view the members of your organization can yield huge results. While the
people you work with won't be doing backflips, you'll be surprised by what you get out of people when you invest in
them.
Why People Follow Benton Hall Room 114 Jessica Gunzburger, Doctoral Student, Student Affairs in Higher Education Intergroup Dialogues Coordinator
Why do people follow? As aspiring and current leaders we spend a great deal of time working to develop our skills
and knowledge related to leadership, but often neglect to think about what causes other people to follow. Gallup
conducted an extensive study about why people follow, and four key themes emerged. Come to this interactive
session to learn about what makes people follow a leader, and how you can leverage your top 5 themes and
leadership home bases to meet your follower’s needs!
CCL Visual Explorer - Using Imagery in Your Leadership Benton Hall Room 100 Dr. Eric Buller, Director of the Wilks Leadership Institute
Using the Visual Explorer exercise created by the Center for Creative Leadership, we will identify images that
represent your personal visualization of leadership and also talk about how imagery can be used in organizations to
visualize problems or solutions. This is an innovative leadership technique that stimulates more creative thinking in
your teams.
Worthy to follow: Leading From the Inside, Out Benton Hall Room 207 Wilson Okello, Resident Director/First Year Adviser
What does it mean to be authentic? We remember the leaders who invest their full selves into what they do. Using
current literature on leadership development and identity development, I will provide a framework for owning
individual core values as a way to promote and enhance leadership skills.

Learning what your personal brand is and living it every day is a powerful practice. This workshop will provide an
overview of what it means to find your brand and how to maximize that brand to lead, communicate, and execute to
the best of your ability.
It Starts with ONE Eng. Bldg. Room 266 Jelene Grace, Assistant Director for Academic Advising and Living Learning Communities
Courtney Clark-Hachtel, Graduate Student
It Starts with ONE. An interactive discussion on bystander behavior, everyday situations we encounter and obstacles
that we face. Through the use of video and current events we will provide strategies for overcoming barriers,
becoming an active bystander and taking a stand toward a culture change.
The Five Secrets to Creating Winning Teams Eng. Bldg. Room 270 Carlos Suarez, Student President, The National Society of Leadership & Success (Sigma Alpha Pi)
Teamwork is the spirit that pulls together a group of committed individuals and turns them into a high-functioning
team. Sadly, many leaders sabotage their own team-building efforts without even knowing. In this workshop, you'll
learn the three mistakes leaders make that squash the spirit of teamwork and five new strategies to breathe life,
creativity, and innovation into any team you're a part of.
Building a Strengths-Based Leadership Brand Garland Hall Room 153 Anne Harbison, Founder and Managing Principal of Leadership & Learning Solutions, LLC
We often think of brands as products and packaging, but as a leader you should have a brand that is an authentic
representation of your truest talents and values. Building off your signature strengths, this workshop will allow you
to define the way you want to uniquely lead others based on who you truly are.
