Walker 4-H Club is sponsoring a livestock workshop

for all 4-H members in Unit 18 who are interested in learn-

ing more about the Beef, Sheep and Swine projects. The

workshop will be held on Saturday, November 9th from 9

Noon at the Butler 4-H Park located just off Rt. 127 on the

north edge of Butler, IL. The cost for the workshop is $5 and lunch will be provided

H Junior Leader is an honor, an opportunity, and a responsibility. Jr. Leaders can pro-vide leadership to the 4-H club, the county 4-H program, the Unit 4-H program and the 4-H program

at the state level. If you are between the ages of 13 18 (as of Sept. 1), are a current 4-H member,

have been a 4-H member for at least 2 years, and have the approval

of your 4-H leader then check out this NEW OPPORTUNITY!

Jr. leaders can . . .

Help develop the club and county 4-H programs.

Develop their own ability to work with others.

Develop their abilies to plan, to organize and to become a

problem solver.

Become a leader in their community.

Act as a mentor to a new or younger 4-H member .

And through parcipaon may become eligible for 4-H trips,

awards, and scholarships.

CWF is a week-long program that provides teen delegates

with insights into the workings of our federal government.

This fun and educational program is provided by the Nation-

al 4-H Youth Conference Center. The Illinois CWF experi-

ence is open to 4-H youth delegates ages 14-18 by May 1 of the year of the trip.

The 2014 trip is scheduled for July 5-13, 2014 and is currently full, however, spaces may

open up as we are coordinating the bus transportation with the Wisconsin delegation. Dele-

gates must register on-line and pay a $250 deposit. Due to a limited number of spaces

available (13 youth), initial registration is limited to 2 delegates per county and on a first-

come, first-served basis (now through December 15). Since the initial spaces are filled, we

will accept names for a waiting list. If additional space is available on the bus, those on the

waiting list will be contacted in December to register. To get your name on the waiting list

Birth, Ownership and Tattoo Dates for Illinois State Fair Junior ShowSTEERS: Calved on or after January 1, 2013

Owned & personally cared for by exhibitor since February 1, 2014Tattooed On or between the last Saturday in January (January 25, 2014) and March 15, 2014. In addition to tattooing, steers that will be going to state fair are to be tagged with the elec-

tronic ID tags.

BARROWS:Regular Barrows Farrowed on or after January 15, 2014 and must be the property of the exhibitor by June 1,

2014. No weighing and tattooing required but must submit ear notches when making entryfor ISF

Premiere Barrows Farrowed on or after February 10, 2014 and must have been the property of the exhibitor

Each year, the Illinois Farm Bureau and their Affiliates help Illinois 4 -H

recognize 10 outstanding 4-H members by sponsoring the Illinois 4-H Premier

LCP Award. The award is for 4-H members age 17 or older by December 1,2013.

LCP stands for Leadership, Citizenship, and Professionalism. The application

focuses on leadership positions the member has held; participation in county,

state, and national events; 4-H goals they have set and reached; and reference evaluations Each county is

allowed to submit two applications. The top ten youth selected on the state level are invited to a 3-day lead-

ership conference in April and are recognized with plaques at the Illini Summer Academies banquet in

June. Applications are available at the State 4-H website at: http://web.extension.illinois.edu/state4h/

Applications must be turned into your local Extension office no later than December 20, 2013.

The Illinois 4-H Jr. Leadership Conference, JLC, is a fun

filled overnight weekend event that provides junior high delegates

with a look into leadership development and opportunities within

the 4-H program. This year it will be held at the Decatur Confer-

ence Center & Hotel, Decatur, IL on the weekend of February 8-

9th. Online registration will be open mid-November and will end in

early January. Registration information will be posted at: http://

web.extension.illinois.edu/state4h/events/juniorleadership.cfm

JLC is open to 7th and 8th grade 4-H members and Operation Military Kids (OMK) Extension partici-pants. At this event, these members have the opportunity to bring a non-4-H friend!!! The conferenceoffers junior high youth a chance to develop their leadership skills, meet and interact with youth fromacross the state, and view state leadership in action, while connecting with the State 4-H Youth Lead-ership Team.

While at JLC delegates will:

Learn about opportunities available to youth leaders in Illinois, including regional and state leader-ship teams, state committees, events, etc.

Explore assorted 4-H projects in depth with hands-on activities. This gives them the information andactivities to take back to their local clubs and start using the leadership skills they have learned.

Participate in active games and mixers that they can take back to their local clubs and use to buildtheirs, and other members' leadership skills.

Dinner at 6:30pm. Awards ceremony promptly starts at 7pm. Cost per dinner

4-H HolidaySewing Workshop

What: A holiday sewing workshop is being offered by the

U of I Extension, Macoupin County.

When: Tuesday, December 3 (6:30-8:00p.m)

Where: U of I Extension Office

(#60 Carlinville Plaza, Carlinville)

Who: The workshop is open to youth ages 8 and above.
