Council was just named one of the Top 25 U.S. Diversity Councils by The Association of

Diversity Councils; and Baystate Health has been recognized as a top Performer by the

Human Rights Campaign for LGBT Healthcare Equality for three years in a row for having

health care policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender

people focused on four key policy areas: patient non-discrimination, visitation, cultural

competency training, and employment non-discrimination.

We extend a warm welcome and thank you for attending the Baystate Health Diversity & Inclusion Conference. It’s an exciting time for all of us as we come together to collaborate, share best practices, and collectively defi ne what diversity and inclusion means to organizations and to us, as individuals making change happen.

At Baystate Health, we understand that diversity and inclusion are business imperatives. Philip A. Berry is the Executive Director of the Association of Diversity Councils at PRISM International, Inc., a WBENC-certifi ed, full-service provider of innovative and proven consulting services, training programs, and products for leveraging diversity and inclusion, increasing cross cultural effectiveness, and preventing harassing and discriminatory behaviors.

Philip serves on numerous boards. He is the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for City University. He is a

member of the Board of Directors of Families in Global Transition. He is the President of Hispanic Corporate Achievers, a member of the Advisory

Board of the New York City Center, an arts and cultural institution; and, an advisor to the Corporate Diversity Council for the Asia Society.

Philip is the author of Being Better Than You Believe: 8 Steps to Ultimate Success. He is also the author of many published journal articles on topics of diversity, talent management, and leadership.

Margaret Beturne is Assistant Nurse Manager at Baystate Orthopedic Surgery Center. In this role, she participates in all phases of daily operations in an ambulatory surgical center; acts as

immediate supervisor, educator, and mentor for perianesthesia staff.

She is Co-author of a Chapter on Cultural Diversity in ASPAN Core Curriculum,

2010 Author of Chapter on Quality Improvement in ASPAN Core Curriculum, and 2010 Author of Chapter on Discharge Teaching in ASPAN Competency Based Orientation Manual, 2009.

Sharon Bueno Washington brings extensive group facilitation and consulting experience to Washington Orange Wheeler, LLC. She is a certifi ed executive coach and a trained mediator, who has consulted with clients across every major industry in both the public and private sectors. Her specialties include leadership, organizational change, team dynamics, diversity and inclusion, cultural competence, and cross-cultural dynamics. Previously, she was a partner at the

internationally-recognized consulting fi rm newdynamics and contributed to several of the fi rm’s publications – “The Male/Female Continuum: Paths to Colleagueship” and “Sexual Orientation and Identity: Heterosexual, Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Journeys” and “Journeys of Race & Culture: Paths to Valuing Diversity.” Sought for her expertise in developing and implementing diversity initiatives, she has been a featured speaker at regional and national conferences. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree and has studied at several universities in Spain.

Sharon heads the Northeast offi ce of Washington Orange Wheeler, LLC.

Michele Carroll is currently the Director of Business Development at The Partnership, Inc., New England’s premier organization focused on enhancing

the competitiveness of the region by attracting, training, retaining, and convening professionals of color. With over 10 years of experience in

Robbins has an unmatched ability to inspire people even in the midst of disrupting and challenging the way they think about the world. Born in Vietnam, Dr. Robbins immigrated to the United States when he was fi ve years old. He and his mother faced many challenges as Vietnamese immigrants in a new land, during a time when there was much anti-war and anti-Vietnamese sentiment.

Working through and rising out of the challenges of poverty, discrimination, and the tough streets of Los Angeles, Dr. Robbins now brings insightful perspectives on issues of leadership, inclusion and innovation, and the power of caring. Drawing upon a compelling

life journey, his talks and workshops are fi lled with intriguing stories, laugh-out-loud humor, and a keen understanding of human behavior.

Dr. Robbins uniquely knows how to simultaneously challenge and motivate people with a dynamic use of story-telling, humor, and extensive knowledge of pertinent issues and concepts. Dr. Robbins received his undergraduate degree from Calvin College, and his masters and doctorate from Michigan State University’s top-ranked Department of Communication. His background in communication, socio-psychology, and cognitive neuroscience drive his work with individuals and organizations – the core of the work is about understanding human behavior in a world full of human differences.

Prior to joining The Partnership, Michele was an Account Executive for Procter & Gamble where she managed the Beauty Care business for BJ’s Wholesale. Prior to that, she worked in P&G’s Pharmaceutical Division with responsibility for Southeastern Massachusetts physicians and hospitals.

Michele holds a M.A. in Communications Management from Simmons College and a B.A. in Communications from Howard University. She is also a 2007 alumnae of The Partnership’s Leadership Development Programs. Michele was recently recognized as an Emerging leader by The Boston Business Journal.

Nancy Di Dia brings more than 25 years of experience in overall management and diversity, inclusion and engagement practices in corporate America to her role

as Executive Director and Chief Diversity & Inclusion Offi cer at Boehringer Ingelheim. She has national responsibility for Diversity, Inclusion & Engagement

reaching more than 10,000 employees in the U.S. Under her leadership the company achieved the #1 position from the Association of Diversity Councils as well as a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index from the Human Rights Campaign for the best places to work for LGBT for three consecutive years. In 2009, she also received a prestigious recognition of Diversity Champion from the State of Connecticut Society for Human Resources Management Council (SHRM) and this year was honored by the Tri-State Diversity Council as one of the most powerful and infl uential women in diversity. In June, the Gay & Lesbian Community Center of NY named her Corporate Leader of the Year. As well, she recently received the 2012 Leading Lights Award from the Futurework Institute and was recently named a Finalist for the 2012 Trailblazer Out & Equal Award. The National Minority Quality Forum recently recognized Nancy for her advancement of diversity in clinical trials.

Jennifer Faulkner is Director of Communications for Baystate Health, a 10,000-employee health system nationally recognized for quality care. Tapping into the power of target

audience insights to inform strategy, and ultimately achieve objectives, Jennifer has designed successful communications programs to launch smoke-free

environments, raise $1 million in an employee fundraising campaign, market a $359 million hospital expansion, and build a “line of sight” to organizational vision, mission, and goals. She has more than 15 years of experience in health care communications and recently earned a Master of Science in Health Communications from Boston University.

Deborah W. Foster, Chief Diversity Offi cer, United Way Worldwide U.S. Network. Ms. Foster leads United Way Worldwide’s efforts to be a model of inclusion by engaging diverse individuals

and organizations as partners. Ms. Foster has presented on topics related to diversity and inclusion for organizations such as Association of Junior

Leagues International, Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and Sister Cities International. A career professional, she has worked for United Ways in Jacksonville, Florida, Washington, DC, and as President and Chief Executive Offi cer of United Way of Pennsylvania.

Ralph Frazier has more than 30 years of professional and managerial experience. He has spent the last ten years at Global

Novations consulting, coaching, and facilitating Diversity and Inclusion programs for executives, managers, and individual contributors in Fortune

500 companies. Ralph has worked in the fi nancial services, banking, wireless communications, consumer products, non-profi t, healthcare, pharmaceutical,

and food services industries. Before joining Global Novations, Ralph

owned and operated SiteSpecs, a project management company specializing in business relocations. Prior to SiteSpecs, Ralph served for 15 years as Business Manager, for the information systems group, at Massachusetts General Hospital.

As an Effi cacy coach, Ralph supports individuals at all levels to develop and leverage their leadership and infl uence skills to achieve desired personal and professional outcomes. He also supports managers and leaders in understanding the business case for inclusion and optimizing employee talent, engagement, and contribution.

Mike Garreffi is the 22News Director. When he was a teenager, Mike Garreffi began his career as a still photographer. While working with several well-known photographers, he won regional and national awards for portraiture and still photography.

He transitioned to television as a news videographer at 22News. Mike’s fi rst day on the job coincided with the famous Blizzard of 1978! He was quickly promoted to chief photographer, and

then to news operations manager. In 1999, Mike took over as News Director at 22News.

During the course of his career, he has traveled

around the world and the nation to bring stories of interest to the viewers of 22News. During his tenure as news director, 22News has continued its history as an Emmy Award winning, legacy station in the Springfi eld/Holyoke market. Not only is WWLP-22News one of just a few stations in the country with a news preference rating of 62%, but 22News also has the vast majority of news viewers in western Massachusetts. Mike has had the pleasure of working with some of the most talented journalists in the business who got their start at 22News, and are now working in several top television markets throughout the country.

Andres Gonzalez is the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Offi cer at Baystate Health. He has worked in the non-profi t sector for over 18 years. He has been instrumental in creating culturally and linguistically competent programs. He joined Baystate Health in November 2012. He is responsible for overseeing the integration of Diversity throughout all programs and staff in the health system; plan, develop,

champion, and align policies, processes, strategies, and tactics for implementing cultural changes necessary for Baystate Health to be culturally competent and

to leverage diversity and inclusion in advancing Baystate Health’s mission; develop, administer and monitor Baystate Health’s strategic plan for diversity and ensure coordination in the implementation of the diversity and inclusion strategy throughout the system; provide expert advice and counsel to President and CEO and President’s Cabinet on matters of diversity within the organization and within the community; serve as an advocate and spokes person for diversity and a champion for change.

Mr. Gonzalez holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration on Community Agency Counseling from Cleveland State University.

Mr. Gonzalez is a graduate of Cleveland Public Schools, a 2004 German Marshall Fund Fellow, and alumni of: Esperanza, Cleveland Bridge Builder’s Flagship Program, and Leadership Cleveland.

Waleska Lugo-DeJesús is the Director of Multicultural Affairs and Executive Assistant to the President at Westfi eld State University. Lugo-DeJesús has over

twelve years of experience working in the private/nonprofi t sector and fi ve years in Higher Education. She was appointed by Governor Deval L. Patrick

as a Commissioner for Commonwealth Corps, promoting civic engagement throughout the State where she served

for a three-year term. She is a Corporate Board member of the YMCA of Greater Springfi eld (Chairing a Diversity & Inclusion Committee), Board Member of Commonwealth Compact Higher Ed Diversity Collaborative, and Committee Member for Leadership Pioneer Valley. Lugo-DeJesús holds her Master’s Degree in Public Administration and her Bachelor’s in Business Management from Westfi eld State University, Waleska is a 2013 fi nalist for uAspire First One Awards and was honored in 2012 with a “Love thy Neighbor Lifetime Achievement Award” by New Creation Discipleship Ministries and Foundation, 40 Under Forty community award by Business West, “Visionary Woman of Excellence” by Unity First, and named one of Biltmore’s Who’s Who. She also serves on UWPV Women’s Leadership Council.

Chris Michael Mendoza is Vice President of Multicultural Market Development for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) in Springfi eld, Mass. He has 25 years of experience in the insurance and fi nancial services industry.

Since joining the company in 2007, Chris has successfully built a diverse marketing team while leading the development of multicultural business

and marketing strategies for the Life Company Marketing division of MassMutual’s U.S. Insurance Group. As the consumer segment leader for all

multicultural business, he has secured and leveraged strategic alliances with diverse professional organizations to aid in recruiting for, supporting, and generating business. Under his tenure, MassMutual’s multicultural sales force and sales have grown signifi cantly.

Holding a doctorate degree in business administration, Chris’ research on Hispanic entrepreneurship and multicultural marketing and selling is published in various academic, business journals, and trade publications. Chris is bilingual (Spanish) and he and his family reside in the greater Springfi eld Massachusetts area.

Dani Monroe is President and Founder of Center Focus International, Inc. (CFI), one of the top talent, leadership, and diversity practices in the U.S. Monroe leads C-suite executives of Fortune

100 companies in global inclusion strategies that favorably impacts their bottom lines.

She is the author of Untapped Talent:

Unleashing the Power of the Hidden Workforce (Palgrave Macmillan, April 2013). Monroe holds her Master’s Degree in organizational development from Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Business.

Joelle Murchison serves as Vice President, Enterprise Diversity & Inclusion at Travelers. She joined Travelers in April 2007 as Director of Diversity, was

promoted to Second Vice President, Diversity a year later and assumed her current role in November 2010. In partnership with management, Joelle

developed the framework of the company’s diversity focus and leads the execution of Travelers’ diversity strategy, which includes managing both internal and external strategic relationships in order to drive and enhance the organization’s culture and achieve its business objectives.

a company that provides employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. They represent 15% of MicroTek’s 110 employees and work on integrated production teams building complex products. Anne’s focus on supporting employees to be successful has translated into a corporate culture where individual differences and diversity are recognized, valued, and supported. MicroTek’s success shows that business growth with a social conscience works! Their newest initiative is partnering with other businesses to expand the number of opportunities for people with disabilities in the local work place.

Before joining MicroTek in 1987, Anne was a director at New England Business Associates and an independent management consultant.

Anne currently serves on the board of directors for Baystate Health and Health New England. She is past president of the board of the Women‘s Fund of Western Massachusetts and was previously on the board of Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Chicopee Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the Social Enterprise Alliance and is active with the Human Rights Campaign.

Visael (Bobby) Rodriguez is the VP & Chief Diversity Offi cer of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI). Bobby is responsible for assessing the internal

and external environment/culture, developing and implementing strategies to attract, develop, and retain a high performing diverse workforce. He provides

guidance and counsel to leadership regarding the integration of cultural competence into short and long term corporate business plans, and support corporate multicultural strategies. He also leads efforts to address healthcare disparities to improve the quality of health in the lives of Rhode Island’s increasingly diverse residents.

Bobby comes to BCBSRI with more than 20 years of diversity, business development, and multicultural marketing experience. Prior to joining BCBSRI he was the CDO at Baystate

Health and he held positions with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield in Maryland where he spearheaded a major diversity and cultural competence initiative. He also previously held positions at Xerox Corporation as a Director of Business Development.

Bobby earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management and Marketing from the University of Puerto Rico. He is a member of the Board of Directors at the International Multi-Cultural Institute, Diversity & Inclusion Professionals, and Clinica Esperanza in Rhode Island.

Myra D. Smith is Vice President of student and multicultural affairs at Springfi eld Technical Community

College (STCC). Joining the college in 1978, Smith has helped transform the STCC community into one of inclusiveness that celebrates cultural diversity.

Among her many accomplishments is the creation of the STCC Diversity Council and its event series which brings national and international speakers and artists to the campus; and the creation of the STCC “Think Tank” series which brings community leaders together to assist with the retention and graduation rate of young men of color.

Lisa A. Strack is a Human Resource professional by training, and a Sr. Consultant for Ibis Consulting Group. Her expertise is in the areas of diversity training, strategy and planning, and

talent management. Before joining Ibis she worked at Fortune 500 companies to help them engage their workforce by creating a culture of inclusion, and

diverse pipeline of talent. Some of these companies include Comcast, Ahold, Pratt & Whitney, and Accenture.

She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a M.S. in Industrial Organizational Psychology, from Springfi eld College. Additionally, Lisa

is a Certifi ed Professional in Human Resources (PHR), and Certifi ed Diversity Recruiter (CDR).

As an active volunteer for her community, Lisa has dedicated numerous hours to help nonprofi t organizations grow, such as The Bottom Line, City Year, The Common Wealth Compact, Asian American Commission, INROADS, and UMASS Boston. Additionally, she is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP) and the Senior Advisory Board for the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA).

Lorie Valle-Yañez joined MassMutual in June 2008 as Vice President, Chief Diversity Offi cer. Lorie developed and is spearheading an enterprise-wide diversity strategy and a multi-year game plan. Lorie serves as an internal diversity consultant, advisor, and partner to the company’s

senior leaders, business lines, and employees, with the goal of driving diversity and inclusion into MassMutual’s culture and operations in order to help

achieve business objectives and propel the company forward in today’s increasingly complex, globally-integrated marketplace.

Lorie has over 20 years of experience in the diversity arena. She came to MassMutual from ESPN, Inc., where she was the Sr. Director for Diversity, Work/Life and Employee Services. Lorie is a member of the Diversity Collegium, a 25-member diversity “Think Tank” dedicated to advancing the fi eld of diversity and inclusion. She serves on the corporate advisory board for Women of ALPFA and on the diversity advisory council for The Medici Group.
