WASC visiting Team

On Tuesday, April 16, 2013, WASC visiting team, Chairperson Mrs. Alice Myers and team member Miss. Maria Centanni, spent the day at our school. The team had an opportunity to see a typical day at ASA and to observe our students and staff implementing the learning process.

After their initial visit with the WASC leadership committee, the team met separately with groups of students and parents. They then enjoyed a lunch meeting with our teachers.

Our sincere thanks to the WASC leadership committee and faculty. They have worked diligently for the past three years to meet all deadlines in accomplishing our goals of the ASA action plan.

We would like to thank our parents for being part of the process and for helping us out on the day of the visit.

The WASC leadership committee will continue to work together, and, with your help and cooperation, we are sure to reach our goals for the schools’ improvement.

BOOK FAIR

Our sincere thanks to the Parent Auxiliary members who volunteered to help out at the Book Fair that was held at the Academy in March . Your help is greatly appreciated in making the Book Fair a successful one.

Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան ոգեկոչում

Նախնիներու Ոտնահետքերով

Հայ քոյրերու Վարժարանի աշակերտները այս տարի եւս մեծ պատրաստութեամբ դիմաւորեցին Հայոց

ցեղասպանութեան 98րդ տարին: Ամբողջ ամիս մը անոնք ապրեցան ապրիլեան նահատակները յուշող

ոտանաւորներով, երգերով, վաւերագրական շարժապատկերներով եւ յատուկ ծրագիրներով, որոնք բոլորն ալ

կը միտէին աշակերտին մտքին մէջ տպաւորել հայոց պատմութիւնը եւ արթնցնել իրենց մէջ

պահանջատիրութեան գիտակցութիւնը:

Աշակերտները ունեցան հետեւեալ ծրագիրները

-Այցելութիւն Մոնթեպելլոյի յուշարձանը. Ութերորդ դասարանի աշակերտները երկուշաբթի Ապրիլ 22ի

առաւօտեան ընկերակցութեամբ Տիկ.Լինտա Գանտիլեանի եւ Պրն.Անթուան Պէզճեանի այցելեցին

Մոնթեպելլոյի նահատակաց յուշարձանը եւ ծաղկեպսակ զետեղեցին վարժարանի աշակերտութեան անունով.

Աղօթեցին, իրենց յարգանքի տուրքը մատուցեցին եւ խունկ ծխեցին:

Սուրբ Պատարագ եւ Հոգեհանգստեան պաշտօն.-Ապրիլ 23ի առաւօտեան տեղի ունեցաւ Սուրբ պատարագ

մասնակցութեամբ բոլոր դասարաններու աշակերտութեան, պատարագիչն էր Կլենտէյլի Ս.Գրիգոր Լուսաւորիչ

Եկեղեցւոյ ժողովրդապետ Հայր Գրիգոր Շահինեան, որ Ս.Պատարագէն ետք առաջնորդեց աշակերտները դէպի

վարժարանի շրջափակը քալելու մեր նախահայրերու ոտնահետքերով եւ այցելելու իւրաքանչիւր կորսուած եւ

թուրքերու կողմէ գրաւուած հայկական երբեմնի գիւղերն ու քաղաքները, որոնք հինցած կօշիկներով

Պատկերացուած էին իսկ արեւմտահայաստանի քաղաքները ներկայացուած ութերորդ

դասարանի աշակերտներու պատրաստած պաստառներով:

Ապա բոլոր աշակերտութիւնը իրենց յարգանքի

տուրքը մատուցեցին նահատակներուն

ծիծեռնակաբերդի մանրակերտին՝ ծաղիկներ

զետեղելով:

Կէսօրէ ետք տեղի ունեցաւ հանդիսաւոր ոգեկոչում, Օրուան հանդիսավարն էր

Տիկ.Լինտա Գանտիլեան, որ լրիւ հանդիսութեան շրջանին հայոց պատմութեան վերջին

հարիւրամեակի մասին խօսեցաւ մեկնաբանելով

աշակերտներու կողմէ եղած ասմունքներն ու

խմբերգները: Օրուան խօսքը փոխանցեց

Վարժարանիս Տնօրէնուհի Քոյր Լուսիա, ապա բեմ

ներկայացան բոլոր աշակերտները եւ մեկնաբանեցին երգեր արտասանեցին պատշաճ

ոտանաւորներ եւ ներկայացուցին Ա.Ահարոնեանի

«Վազրիկ» դրուագը: Այս տարուան յայտագիրը

տարբեր էր նախորդներէն որովհետեւ ան իր երգերով

եւ ոտանաւորներով կը խորհրդանշէր հայոց

ցեղասպանութենէն մինչեւ այսօրուան անկախ

հայաստանի հանրապետութիւնը:

Katarina Khalatian Bethel

After graduating from Armenian Sisters' Academy of Los Angeles in 2009, Katarina Khalatian Bethel attended Mayfield Senior School, a Catholic school for girls, in Pasadena, where she is currently a senior, Class of 2013. While at Mayfield, she joined the Creative Writing Conservatory and ultimately pub-lished in March 2013 her first book, a fictional novel for young teens. Her book, The Lost Child of Tir na n'Og, is available at www.amazon.com. In February 2013, she won the Honorable Mention Award for Excel-lence in Writing for her senior portfolio, a collection of short stories and poems, from California Writing Pro-ject, California Writes! and California Association of Teachers of English, as part of the Scholastic Art & Writ-ing Awards of 2013. Her senior portfolio was one of six to be recognized from all of California. She is the re-cipient of Mayfield Senior School's Awards for Excellence in Creative Writing, Spanish, and Music Founda-tion. She is a varsity member of the school's Track and Field team, as a hurdler 100 and 300 meter hur-dles. She was accepted to Loyola Marymount University, Texas A&M, University of Washington, Seattle, USC, and Johns Hopkins University. Ultimately, she declined Johns Hopkins University to attend USC on a partial scholarship in order to study Mechanical Petroleum Engineering. While in college, she hopes to con-tinue writing for fun, as a hobby. Her book was recently featured in a Mayfield article .

Maral Boyajian

Maral Boyajian, who a graduated from Armenian Sisters Academy, attends Village Christian High School in Sun Valley. Recognized as a National Merit Commended Student, she will graduate as the valedictorian of her class. While at Village Christian, she has become a member of the California Scholarship Federation and the National Honor Society, as well as Future Business Leaders of America and Engineering Club which, in her senior year, placed second among all high school clubs in Southern California in the JPL Invention Challenge. Under the direct mentorship of a Senior Biologist of the LA County Department of Agriculture, Maral con-ducted research concerning chemical composition of insect venom as a prerequisite of success in the environ-ment. She also went on to intern in the same field. She has furthered her studies of piano and music theory and is currently working toward her Young Artist recognition, while regularly performing at festivals, recitals, and competitions. During her high school career, Maral also joined the varsity basketball team and became captain, leading her team, the 11th seed, to an appearance in the Division V Southern Section Championship, as well as an unprecedented second round appearance in the state tournament. Earning All-League Honors, she was re-cruited to play NCAA basketball. Among other schools, she was accepted to UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Pep-perdine, Occidental, UCSD, and Harvey Mudd College and received numerous scholarships. She ultimately chose to commit to California Institute of Technology where she will pursue a degree in Biology, join the bas-ketball team, and play in chamber music ensembles.

եթէ մենք լսենք ու կատարենք այն ամէնը ինչ որ Քոյրերը մեզ սովորեց- նում,

ասում և դաստիարակում են…

Սիրելիներ, մենք շնորհակալութիւն ենք յայտնում նաև Ձեր սիրելի

ԾՆՈՂՆԵՐԻՆ , վստահ ենք որ նրանց թոյլտուութեամբ էք նաև անում այս

բարեգործութիւնը….. թող Աստուած պահի ու պահ- պանի նրանց… թող երբէք

չբացակայեն Ձեր գլխի վերևից և դուք միշտ ապրէք ծնողների տաքուկ ու ջերմ

ՍԻՐՈՅ մէջ….

Ձեր ուղարկած գումարով, քոյրերը մեզանից իւրաքանչիւրի համար մէյ-մէկ

զոյգ կօշիկ առնելով մեզ պիտի ուրախացնեն….իսկ մնացած գումարը, պիտի

յատկացնեն ամառային բակային ճամբարի համար, սնունդի, գրենական պիտոյքի

և այլ բաների համար, որին մեծ ուրախութեամբ պատրաստուում ենք… և որին

տևողութիւնը 2 ամիս է….Յունիսի 15-ից մինչև Օգոստոսի 23-ը:

Բոլորս միասին կը լինենք 300-ից աւելի, որով 3 դպրոցի աշակերտութիւնը

պիտի մասնակցի այս ճամբարին….Իսկ շրջակայ գիւղերի երեխաները պիտի

մասնակցեն ԾԱՂԿԱՁՈՐԻ մեր սիրելի Քոյր Արուսեակի հիմնած ճամբարում, 100

հոգի:

Մեծ սիրով հրաւիրում ենք Ձեզ որպէսզի աւելի մօտից ճանաչենք իրար և

մեզ համար մի մեծ օգուտ կը լինի որ մենք Ձեզանից սովորենք ԱՆԳԼԵՐԷՆ լեզուն:

Kaham Games On March 17, 2013, the 29th Annual Kaham Games drew to a close. Our stu-dents participated in three different sports: basketball, soccer, and track and field. In those three events, we, as a school, won many medals and trophies. Here are the results for basketball: 7th-8th Grade Boys-3rd place in Lower Division 6th Grade Girls- 3rd place 5th Grade Girls- 3rd place 4th Grade Girls- 3rd place 3rd Grade Girls- 3rd place 3rd Grade Boys- 2nd place In soccer, our 3rd grade boys earned their 2nd place. I would like to note that this was the first time our school competed in the soccer category. I hope next year we will be as successful and we will continue to compete with a winning attitude. Our sincere thanks to Mr. Hrach Galoustian for enlarging the posters and maps as excellent tools to enhance and facilitate the learning process. The recent work is the genocide big map which is dis-played on the cafeteria back wall.
