On behalf of our

entire arts and

cultural commu-

nity, I want to welcome you

to Sarasota County. Now

that you are here, it is time

to discover this magical community where artistic

expression and inspiration meet.

Just as you can dive into the crystal clear waters of

Sarasota’s breathtaking beaches, use this guide to

dive into our flourishing arts and cultural commu-

nity. There are few other areas in the country that

match the quality and quantity of artistic offerings

available here.

From North Port and Englewood to Venice and Sara-

sota, the area is bursting with top-notch performing

arts halls, galleries, museums, art centers, botanical

gardens, aquariums and universities. We have our

own opera house, ballet, symphony orchestra, pro-

fessional and community theatres and circus. If your

interests include architecture, literary arts or poetry,

you will find a mecca of opportunity for inspiration

and personal fulfillment while you are here.

We hope this guide will help you find and enjoy the

collective energy of Sarasota’s arts and cultural com-

munity. If you need additional information, please

contact our staff at the Arts and Cultural Alliance.

We will be happy to help you in every way possible.

P resident George W. Bush rides into town. The

Ringling International Arts Festival and Chalk

Festival return. Lakewood Ranch hosts its first

Winterfest Music Festival. Holiday lights glitter at Selby

Gardens. “The Bat” comes to Sarasota Opera; the Ballet is

par excellence; Asolo Rep delights; and, a talented beauty

raises the baton for Sarasota Orchestra. And this is just a

smidgen of what’s happening. We’re busting with so many

great things to do, who wouldn’t want to be here!

So grab your marker and highlight your must-attend

events, buy your tickets early, and get ready for an ex-

citing new season. While you’re at it, let’s remember to

thank the local businesses whose support helped make

this guide possible as well as the many visionaries, arts

supporters and artists who have helped make Sarasota/

Bradenton the number one and number two small cities

in the US for the arts. We owe them all a huge thank you.
