there’s a thing called “passion” that
naturally thrives in a place we call
Reno tahoe usA.
maybe you’ll find it on one of our
magnificent mountains. or at a spe-
cial event that truly lives up to its
name. or at one of our world-class
spas, showrooms, rivers, lakes, muse-
ums or fairways.
for some, the main reason for
coming here is our famously epic ski-
ing and snowboarding. for others, it
may be the slightly eccentric camel,
ostrich and zebra races. but no mat-
ter what the reason — or the season
— there are over a thousand ways
to pursue your passions in northern
nevada’s high desert playground.

Reasons to get away from it allwinTeR. SpRing. SUmmeR. Fall. we love each of them with
an equal measure of passion. for you winter worshippers, we
boast the largest concentration of ski resorts in all of north
America, plus an après-ski tradition as legendary as the slopes
themselves. whatever your tool for carving up the mountain
— ski, board, snowshoe, snowmobile, sleigh or tube — Reno
tahoe usA has the perfect terrain for you.
when the white stuff melts away, that’s the perfect time to
dust off your hiking boots, pack a summit picnic and climb to
the top of 10,776-foot mount Rose. Another way to conquer
the great outdoors? Rent a mountain bike or bring your own
and take on the flume trail, arguably the most stunning bike
ride on the planet. if you love to fish, grab your reel and claim
your own piece of paradise on the stunningly beautiful truckee
River (it’s especially gorgeous during autumn when the trees
are exploding with color).
or grab your golf clubs
and take advantage of the
thin mountain air for what
may be the longest drives
and best game of your
life. with championship
courses to suit every bud-
get and a wide range of
terrain — from high desert
beauty to storybook for-
ests — you’re just a chip
shot away from an unfor-
gettable day on the links.
SUnny DayS300 days of sunshine! yep, that’s the average num-ber of bright days awaiting you in the high desert of Reno Tahoe usa. and those sunny skies mean you can enjoy all of those outdoor activities like skiing, board-ing, hiking, river rafting, golfing, horseback riding. Well, you get the picture.

Reasons to slap on some SpFwheTheR yoUR iDea oF The peRFecT Day is hopping from
boulder to boulder over pristine blue-green tahoe waters or chill-
ing barefoot on a blanket in downtown’s wingfield park as you
listen to reggae on the river, you’ll find it all in Reno tahoe usA.
by land, sea or air, our great outdoors is greater than most.
Ready for a boost of adrenaline? then check out baseCamp
Climbing. located in the heart of downtown Reno, it features
the world’s tallest climbing wall at 164 vertical feet! or check
out some of our exotic residents (ligers, anyone?) at sierra
safari Zoo, home to more than 200 animals that you can pet,
feed and play with up close.
for an authentic tahoe experience, head to incline Village
on the tranquil north shore, home of world-famous sand
harbor, championship golf, awesome ski views and the most
stunning shoreline you’ve ever seen.
And if you really want
to elevate your experience,
visit soaringnV in nearby
minden. its tours range
from gentle and peace-
ful flights over the Carson
Valley to the “tahoe wild
Ride,” featuring loops,
rolls and inverted flight. so
you’ll be one of the very
few people on the planet
who can say they’ve seen
lake tahoe … from a bird’s-
eye view … upsidedown.
a KayaK paRK in DownTown Reno WhaT? you’ve never heard of a kayak park? Picture the beautiful Truckee River, which flows right through downtown Reno, but with frothy rapids and pools for both freestyle and competi-tive kayakers to call their playground.

into the Bluemark twain called lake tahoe “the Jewel
of the sierra,” and many think of it as
America’s most beautiful drive. you can
begin your journey anywhere along the
loop, but you might want to start by
heading up the sweeping switchbacks
of the mt. Rose highway (sR 431) where,
just past the summit on the way to incline
Village, is one of the best overlooks in the
region. from there you can head west to
interests like tahoe City’s fanny bridge,
the gatekeeper’s museum and the best
lazy-day river rafting around. or continue
south to the shops at heavenly Village, a
paddleboat cruise on the lake and hiking
at world-famous emerald bay.

pyramid lake is one crazy-cool place.
dissolved minerals in the water have
formed the area’s fanciful rock forma-
tions, including the towering stone pyra-
mid on the eastern shore, that give the
lake a look that can only be described as
“exotic.” pyramid is a component of the
national scenic byways program and
also happens to be a classic spot for fish-
ing and boating. head north from there
to visit gerlach, a small desert town that’s
the gateway to the black Rock desert,
home of the burning man festival and
a beacon for speed freaks. in 1997 on
the flat playa, an over-amped hybrid of
rocket and racecar became the first land
vehicle to crack the speed of sound.

cool in the cityevery city has a few places that refuse
to blend in … like Reno’s Riverwalk and
midtown districts. you never know what
you’ll discover in the shops, galleries,
coffeehouses, museums and restaurants
that line the river and the south Virginia
neighborhoods. start your walking tour
at the Visitor Center i , photo bomb the
Reno Arch 1 , cruise the “streets” of one
of the top 5 car collections at the national
Automobile museum 2 , explore the
nevada discovery museum 3 and then
head south a few blocks to the midtown
district 4 , Reno’s newest cultural hot spot
peppered with funky eateries and stylish
taverns. next, visit the nevada museum
of Art 5 , check out the truckee River
whitewater park 6 , and find yourself a
place to relax and partake in a meal along
the Riverwalk 7 .

VIRGINIA CITY

The wild, wild westVirginia City wasn’t always the small,
ruggedly charming place it is today.
in its heyday, it was the largest city
between san francisco and denver.
sample its charms by cruising the
boardwalk, taking a ghost tour, visiting
the historic fourth ward school museum
and ambling through the Comstock
wild horse and mining museum. you’ll
also want to check out Carson City, the
capital of the silver state, which is home
to the nevada state museum. or enjoy
a stroll along the kit Carson trail and
explore Carson City’s landmarks and
stately Victorian houses. And don’t for-
get about the nevada state Railroad
museum, the governor’s mansion and
the Capitol.

A passion for music. A passion for
great food. A passion for sunshine. A
passion for winning. there are plenty
of different passions to go around
here, but one thing we’re pretty sure
everyone’s passionate about is tak-
ing it easy. Reno tahoe is the perfect
escape because we’re so convenient
and worry-free in so many ways.
there are 15,000 hotel rooms
within five miles of the city center, and
the Reno-sparks Convention Center
rests just five minutes from the air-
port. A mere 40-minute drive gets
you to one of the world’s most spec-
tacular recreational natural wonders –
lake tahoe. we don’t have that major
metropolitan traffic congestion and
unlike many other destinations, park-
ing isn’t a nightmare. in other words,
we make it easy to get around, so you
can spend less time en route and more
time pursuing your passion.
to help you on your journey, we’ve
even provided some handy maps on
the following pages … so you can get
to the good stuff even faster.

Check out a list of airlines serving the
Reno-tahoe international Airport by
going to VisitRenotahoe.com and
clicking on “getting here.”
if you’re hitting the road to get
here, Reno and sparks are located at
the junction of interstate 80 and u.s.
395/i-580. i-80 provides all-weather
access across donner summit from
central and northern California. from
southern California, it’s a straight shot
up u.s. 395 along the dramatic east-
ern front of the sierra nevada. from
the northwest, take i-5 south to i-80
or, in the spring and summer, opt for
the scenic shortcut that leaves i-5 at
mount shasta and follows California
89 and 44 southeast through
susanville.
A third option is Amtrak’s
California Zephyr, which arrives daily
from the bay Area and sacramento to
the west and salt lake and denver to
the east. trains from the northwest,
coastal southern California and the
Central Valley connect to the Zephyr
in sacramento.
