Welcome to your copy of the Good Universities’ Courses Guide 2012–2013.

‘Lifelong learning’ is a contemporary phrase but with a longstanding Christian history. The initial call to the disciples to follow Jesus and learn from him still applies to all Christians and includes those like yourself in leadership and ministry.

That is why Bible Society is pleased to introduce you to a number of the best theology, biblical studies and religious studies departments in our universities. Browsing what is on offer here will hopefully provide the encouragement to continue with your own professional development. Equally, if you were already planning to undertake further study, then this Courses Guide can help you find the right academic context to support those studies, while the university websites listed provide an even greater range of opportunities.

We also believe that this information can aid you in the guidance of others who are on the journey of Christian intellectual enquiry. Whether they are looking for their first degree as the step after A levels or are mature students, these universities could well be an appropriate first choice.

Please use the downloadable pdf of this booklet to share this resource with others. It is available at biblesociety.org.uk/gucg

Thank you for partnering with us.

You become critically aware of disputes, how these are addressed in scholarly literature, and learn how to develop your own judgements on matters of serious common concern.

Learning Pathways Oak Hill students specialise by choosing one of three pathways:

Theology and Pastoral Studies – For students preparing for different forms of ministry: ordained ministry in the Church of England, pastorships in free churches and other specialist ministries.

Theology for Crossing Cultures – Everyone preparing for ministry today needs training in what it means to cross cultures with the gospel. This pathway facilitates the study, discussion and thinking needed for those who plan to go overseas in their ministry, as well as developing essential skills for ministry.

Theology for Children and Youth – Children’s and youth workers need to connect a truly biblical faith with modern youth culture. This pathway helps students handle the tough pastoral issues and also handle the word of God, so they can understand it in depth and teach it with confidence.

Each of these pathways has a different practical focus.

Our programmes of studyOak Hill offers the following programmes, most of which can be studied part-time or full-time. Courses taken part-time require approximately twice the length of time shown below to complete:

Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE): 1 year Foundation Degree of Arts (FdA): 2 yearsBachelor of Arts (BA Hons): 3 years Master of Theology (MTh): 4 years (not part time; TPS/TCC only) Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip): 1 year (TPS only) Master of Arts (MA): 1 year (TPS only)

Oak Hill is a theological college in north London which equips people for ministry in both Anglican and Independent churches, and also in specialist ministries in Britain and around the world.

We aim to provide the best possible training for gospel ministry.

We want you to increase your knowledge of God and his Word, and develop your ability to share that knowledge with people around you. At the same time, we want you to mature as a Christian and show Christ to others in all that you say and do.

Oak Hill is an Associate College of Middlesex University. Oak Hill is accredited by the University to validate its own undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes.

Why study with us?

Oasis College is distinctive because of our focus on practice-based learning. We offer high levels of support for new and experienced workers to draw on theoretical knowledge and theological reflection to develop work and ministry with children, young people, families and communities. We describe this as ‘theo-praxis’ – a synthesis of wrestling with theology and our response to contemporary society.

Oasis College is located in central London, with excellent transport routes that connect us with students throughout south-east England and wider afield.

“At Oasis College you learn about theory, theology and current issues with immediate relevance to your work and ministry”
