SUBARU BOXER engine has a flatter profile and can

therefore be placed lower in the vehicle than other

engine configurations. This creates a lower centre

of gravity for the entire vehicle, which then sets the

SUBARU BOXER ENGINESA crucial element of the Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD system is the SUBARU BOXER

engine. The horizontally opposed configuration of this engine sees the pistons placed

180 degrees apart, creating a lower and flatter profile compared to other engine types

and lowering the centre of gravity for the vehicle overall. This engine type is also inherently

smoother because the movement of one bank of pistons counteracts that of the other, which

then reduces engine vibration. The new Subaru fleet includes a wide array of SUBARU BOXER

engines that are noted for their superior performance, efficiency and smoothness – and their

ability to generate sheer driving pleasure.

2.5L TURBOCHARGED (4-CYLINDER) The award-winning, turbocharged 2.5L DOHC SUBARU BOXER combines the immediate

gratification and long-lasting pleasures of sports-car performance, low emissions and welcome

fuel efficiency. The high-flow intercooler, Active Valve Control System* and virtually no turbo

lag result in linear response and a continuous rush of acceleration. With a highly rigid design

and natural balance, this engine is as strong as it is smooth, ensuring endless miles of driving

enjoyment for the road ahead. The engine in the WRX STI benefits from significantly higher

boost and a free-flowing, quad-tipped exhaust to create instant acceleration, inspiring response,

and an intoxicating sound across the entire rev range.

3.6L NATURALLY ASPIRATED (6-CYLINDER) The largest, most refined engine in the Subaru fleet features low internal friction and impressive

rigidity, which serve to reduce noise, vibration, emissions and fuel consumption. The result is

very smooth and quiet power delivery, surprising efficiency and remarkable eco-friendliness – all

on regular unleaded fuel. Light, compact and perfectly balanced by design, this 3.6L 6-cylinder

DOHC SUBARU BOXER also features the Dual Active Valve Control System for impressive

torque and driveability.

2.0L NATURALLY ASPIRATED (4-CYLINDER) From its free-breathing intake to its free-flowing exhaust, the 2.0L DOHC SUBARU BOXER

makes driving seem effortless and exhilarating all at the same time. The design of this brand new,

next-generation engine creates natural balance and smoothness, while the Dual Active Valve

Control System produces dynamic low-end response. When paired with the Lineartronic® CVT

(Continuously Variable Transmission), this engine delivers inspiring performance with a modest

appetite for fuel.

2.5L NATURALLY ASPIRATED (4-CYLINDER) The naturally aspirated 2.5L SUBARU BOXER comes in a number of different variations, all offering

remarkable performance, refreshing efficiency and minimal emissions. The 4-cylinder SOHC in the

Legacy and Outback is naturally smooth and strong – and when combined with the Lineartronic

CVT, delivers comparable fuel efficiency to the average two-wheel-drive sedan or crossover.

The new-generation 4-cylinder DOHC in the Forester has been optimized to reduce fuel

consumption and emissions, while delivering rewarding response across a wide range of engine

speeds. For even greater eco-friendliness, the 2.5L SUBARU BOXER in the Legacy, Outback and

Forester can be combined with PZEV equipment to reduce

smog-forming emissions to near zero without any adverse

effect on performance.

TRANSMISSIONS + AWDSubaru symmetrical full-time AWD systems are designed for optimum performance and

efficiency on all roads, in all seasons, at all times. To capitalize on these characteristics, each

version of the system is matched to another key element of the drivetrain – a transmission

that is perfectly calibrated to extract maximum performance and efficiency. In all, there are

four different AWD systems in the current Subaru lineup and six different transmissions.

SUSPENSIONThe Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD system would

not be complete without the fully independent

suspension system. All Subaru models feature a

strut-type front suspension with a wide track

and long wheel travel. The double-wishbone rear

suspension, also on all models, handles rough

roads and sharp corners with both poise and

precision – ensuring maximum tire contact, minimum vibration and significantly improved

ride quality. Together, these characteristics deliver flatter cornering, as well as a quieter, more

comfortable ride over a variety of road surfaces. This suspension system was developed over

30 years of competition in the FIA World Rally Championship, so it’s endured a brutal baptism

by fire. The ability to travel at speed over all types of surfaces – from tarmac to gravel and from

sand to solid rock – and withstand bumps, jumps and lumps is what gives every Subaru an edge

over the competition.

LINEARTRONIC CVT+ MULTI-PLATE TRANSFER CLUTCH AWD The ideal link between the smooth power of the SUBARU BOXER engine and the

confident control of Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD is the advanced Lineartronic CVT

(Continuously Variable Transmission). This production-car first – a CVT longitudinally

paired with AWD that uses a chain instead of a belt – allows for a near-infinite selection

of gear ratios, keeping the engine in the most favourable rpm range at all times. This

design creates improved performance and outstanding fuel efficiency, as well as faster

response to throttle input. The Lineartronic CVT is also specifically tuned to provide

a more natural feel than other designs for instant response on demand with minimal

application of the accelerator pedal. The overall result is pure Subaru: performance,

smoothness and efficiency in perfect balance.

AERODYNAMICS

Every Subaru is aerodynamically sculpted for superior

efficiency, reduced wind noise and greater stability overall.

In higher-performance models such as the Subaru WRX STI, this

process has been pushed to the nth degree: Larger air intakes

provide efficient airflow and better cooling for the SUBARU BOXER

engine and intercooler, while carved body panels and oversized

wings generate even more confidence-inspiring downforce. The

DESIGN LANGUAGE

Look a little closer and you’ll see that the Subaru design

language has very strong ties to its aeronautical heritage:

The distinctive, Subaru front grille is accented with wing-shaped

design elements, the hawk-eye headlights evoke the fierce bird

of prey and the central emblem is the Pleiades six-star cluster.

This final soaring feature is inspired by the five companies that

merged to create our parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries

Ltd., represented by the largest star in the configuration.

The sleek lines of each vehicle lead the eyes to a dynamic, cabin-forward design

with a large glass area designed to open up space while providing superior

front seatbacks are carved out to create more legroom for back-seat passengers,

while the door panels receive similar treatment in order to generate more hip

each model features a generous glass area, large side mirrors

and thin, strategically placed pillars to minimize obstruction

Control† system monitors and analyzes if the vehicle is

following the driver’s intended course via an array of

smart sensors. If the vehicle approaches the limits of

stability, the AWD torque distribution*, engine output

and brakes at each wheel adjust automatically to assist

in keeping the vehicle on course.

BREAK-AWAY ENGINEEvery Subaru goes above and beyond when it

comes to your safety. For example, in the event of a

head-on collision, the SUBARU BOXER engine and

transmission are designed to absorb the impact and

break away, sliding underneath the cabin area for an

added measure of protection.

SEATS, SEATBELTS AND AIRBAGSStandard on every Subaru are front, front-side

and side curtain airbags. Also standard are

height-adjustable front seatbelts with pretensioners

to hold passengers firmly in place and load limiters

that ease peak forces to the chest. On most models,

specially designed front seats or front seat head

restraints provide even better support and help to

reduce whiplash in a rear-end collision. The Subaru

SUVs add a rollover sensor that’s linked to the

side-curtain airbags, while the all-new Impreza

gains a standard driver knee airbag.

RING-SHAPED REINFORCEMENT FRAMEThe advanced ring-shaped reinforcement frame – a

proprietary Subaru design – strengthens the entire

passenger cabin by linking the roof to the side

pillars and the floor. This design helps to dissipate

impact energy and divert it away from occupants in

a collision. A front crumple zone is also integral to

the frame, helping to absorb even more energy in

the event of a frontal impact.

BRAKING SYSTEMSAn advanced Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) – standard on every Subaru vehicle, as

are disc brakes at all four corners – includes a number of technologies designed to

aid safety. Electronic Brake-force Distribution automatically adjusts front/rear braking

pressure when vehicle load changes. Brake Assist provides greater force in sudden

panic situations. Many models also incorporate a Hill Holder system to help prevent

rollback when starting off on an incline. And the WRX STI takes braking to a whole

new level with Super Sport ABS and large diameter, ventilated Brembo® disc brakes.

Power-adjustable Heated Mirrors

Impreza's side mirrors are 20% larger to boost visibility, aerodynamically shaped to reduce drag and wind noise, power-adjustable and heated to defog or melt away frost. New Vehicle Limited Warranty (36 month/60,000 km) — Covers basic and major components for 36 months or 60,000 km.

Major Component Limited Warranty (60 month/100,000 km) — Extends coverage of major components (more than just powertrain) up to 60 months or 100,000 km.

Surface Corrosion Limited Warranty (36 month/60,000 km) — Covers surface corrosion to visible painted body panels for 36 months or 60,000 km.

Anti-Perforation Limited Warranty (60 month/unlimited km) — Covers perforation due to corrosion to body sheet metal panels for 60 months, regardless of kilometres.

Emission Control System Limited Warranty — Covers the majority of emissions components for 36 months or 60,000 km and the major parts of the emission control system for 96 months or 130,000 km.

Parts and Accessories Limited Warranty — Covers Subaru parts and accessories installed by the dealer prior to retail delivery of the vehicle for 36 months or 60,000 km, and Subaru parts and accessories installed by the dealer after the retail delivery of the vehicle for 12 months or 20,000 km from the date of the installation.
