I am humbled to be given the opportunity to lead SolBridge International School of Business as it begins itsfifth year and stands on the shoulders of the accomplishments of the Woosong Education Foundation.Created in 1954, the foundation has sponsored educational programs and experiences at all levels ofinstruction. Since 1994, when Woosong University was founded, it has earned a reputation for excellence inpreparing students for practical careers. The creation of SolBridge is a natural extension of the academicactivism we see here in the city of Daejeon which is the home of 17 colleges and universities and 35government and private sector research institutes

With your assistance and wholehearted support, I intend to use the uniquely global aspect of SolBridge togain worldwide attention for our faculty and students. Expect our faculty to excel in teaching, and produceworld-class research that will be presented throughout the academic community, and look for our studentsto earn a new reputation for intellectual inquiry and innovative thought. We will participate in and supportinternational activities that will help in the creation of a new “Neighborhood Asia” so that SolBridgegraduates will have a strong understanding of the social responsibility of business leaders.

Our innovative model envisages SolBridge-sponsored campuses in other parts of Asia and participation instudent/faculty exchange programs throughout the world, as well as dual degree programs and tripartiteeducational opportunities. This model reveals a degree of academic leadership unparalleled on the KoreanPeninsula. Working together, our faculty and students will drive for a more prosperous Asia-Pacific Regionbased on knowledge, integrity, excellence, creativity, diversity, flexibility, and innovation.

In accordance with Korean Ministry of Education regulations SolBridge isnationally accredited as a unit of its sister institution Woosong University.SolBridge is a member of the Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools(AAPBS), the Eurasian Economic Scientist Society and Association to AdvanceCollegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and is engaged in pursuing AACSBaccreditation. Academic credits earned at SolBridge are transferrable toother quality institutions of higher education.

SolBridge is unique among business schools for several reasons.SolBridge is the only international business school in Asia which

teaches all courses in English;

THE FACILITYThe seventeen-level, forty million U.S. dollar SolBridge complex in downtown Daejeon features state-of-the-artclassrooms, a multimedia conference room, fitness center, library, student cafeteria, coffee shop, and tworestaurants. Videoconferencing allows SolBridge professors and students to share lectures and seminars with ourpartner institutions around the globe. Classrooms are fully equipped with multimedia projectors and broadbandInternet connections.

Within the same academic/leisure facility students are able to take time out from their studies for a workout, aswim or a game of basketball and afterward relax in our library or our spacious cafeteria.

The combined facility provides students with the incentive to keep their bodies fit while developing their minds.The nearby Woosong University campus has numerous fitness facilities, additional libraries, language laboratoriesand international-standard residence.

SolBridge faculty and staff members are complemented by a close network of industry, government, and otheracademic institutions around the world to assure that students not only receive outstanding instruction, but areinvolved in a career-building dialog with others around the world. Our human network and our commitment tothe careers of students make SolBridge a unique environment for study and a fast track for advancement.

The Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) consists of senior executives who arebased in China, India, Korea, Thailand and the USA and have in-depthexperience in operations throughout Asia as well as with the major tradingpartners of Asian countries. Their collective experience covers a broad rangeof well-established large corporations, as well as small entrepreneurialorganizations in both the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors in a wide range ofindustries. Aside from their general management operating experience, eachCAC member has deep functional experience in the broad spectrum ofmanagement disciplines including marketing, sales, production, research anddevelopment, logistics, human resources, finance, accounting, andadministration.

The objective of the CAC is to help ensure that graduates leaving SolBridgehave an excellent balance of exposure to relevant theoretical managementconcepts and practical experience in applying management theory to realworld situations in Asia today. Members of the CAC share their in-depthknowledge and industry experience with SolBridge students by:

reviewing the SolBridge curriculum to ensure relevancy to current andexpected future needs of business leaders in Asia;

meeting with SolBridge students to share their experience and to advisethem on preparation for successful careers in business;

providing internships which are meaningful to students’ interests and whichare relevant to their career choice; and

offering placement opportunities to SolBridge graduates.

Corporate Advisory Council Many leading companies in Korea havebecome “Friends of SolBridge” byassociating with SolBridge on a varietyof levels. This group of companiesactively contributes to the SolBridgeeducation through our PlatinumLecture Series, internships and jobplacements. The Platinum LectureSeries sponsors a monthly guestspeaker, primarily at the CEO levelfrom leading Korean companies ormultinational companies located inKorea. These companies furtherprovide extra-consideration to

SolBridge students for internshipsand job opportunities, both in

Korea and abroad at multi-national locations. A typicallist of Friends of SolBridgeincludes: Samsung Asset

SolBridge is located in Daejeon, Republic of Korea,the crossroads of Korea’s expressway and railway

systems, and the location of Korea’s “Silicon Valley”commonly known as Daedeok Innopolis.

Daedeok Innopolis is a 30+ year old world-classresearch cluster which has been largely responsiblefor the explosive growth of basic science and venturebusinesses in Korea. It is home to some 800 high-technology firms and 60 large educational andgovernment-run institutions and corporate researchcenters.

There are also numerous venture companies in IT,display technologies, robotics, and biotechnology whichemploy more than 6,800 researchers holding doctoratedegrees. Daedeok Innopolis is at the forefront of

innovation, entrepreneurship and research which haspositioned Korea to be the technology leader for the21st century.

SolBridge has collaborated with many of these industryleaders to provide opportunities for student internshipsand future graduate placements. These collaborationshelp establish a balance between theory and real-world experience which is essential to prepare ourgraduates for the practical business world.

In addition to being known as a city of science andeducation, Daejeon is surrounded by beautiful low-lying mountains and lakes. Daejeon has numerousparks and museums as well as facilities for the artsand sports establishing a healthy balance of businessand environmental harmony.

The SolBridge BBA Curriculum is designed to prepare ourgraduates to excel as thought leaders in Asian business withthe following unique features:

a language minor and general education component toencourage soft-skill development

an opportunity to graduate within seven semesters traditional business specialization skills and in-depth

knowledge of a focus areaan Immersion Program to provide students an in-depth

practice-oriented experience

SolBridge offers Bachelor’s degree programs that may becompleted within seven semesters. A six week sessionfollows each regular semester in which students may study

one content course and one language course. This leaves afour week period for vacation.

Students specialize in a traditional business area such asMarketing, Finance, Management, Entrepreneurship, orInformation systems. They also choose one of three focusareas: Asian Management, Global Business andConvergence Management. Students will gain an in-depthknowledge of the focus area and the application ofspecialization skills to that focus area. To ensure ourgraduates are prepared to have a competitive edge, theyalso complete a minor in a foreign language: Korean,Chinese or Japanese. Our graduates will thus be proficientin three languages: mother tongue, English as their globallingua franca and a foreign language.

SolBridge business programs provide rigorous and practical educationthrough lectures, expert seminars, and team-based student projects. In

addition, we offer a unique Immersion Program focusing on challengingmanagement issues and student internships in established businesses inKorea and other countries.

Focus Areas In addition to the traditional business specializationcourses, students must choose a focus area and take 3courses in the focus area. These courses are meant to givethe student an in-depth knowledge of that area so that theycan apply their specialization skills to that region orindustry. Course examples are given below.

Free ElectivesStudents choose five (5) electives from any area(s) orspecialization(s) of their choice so that they acquire basicknowledge of other focus areas and/or specializations. Inaddition, they can also choose these five electives from alimited number of free electives that are offered from timeto time.

Mentoring ProgramThe goal of the mentoring program is to develop well-rounded and confident graduates who have a clear careervision and plan. Students achieve academic and personaldevelopment by being assigned a mentor (faculty member)who works with the mentee (student). There are six (6)courses worth one (1) credit each which the student takesthroughout their studies at SolBridge starting with theirsecond semester. These courses are graded on a pass/failbasis.

Immersion programThe immersion program is designed to give the studenthands-on experience in order to prepare them for managingin a dynamic environment. Students participate in a seriesof projects, workshops and fieldwork under the guidance ofSolBridge faculty while earning credits. These courses aregraded on a pass/fail basis.

SolBridge offers a full-time and part-time MBA programfor students who have completed their bachelor’s degreeand wish to pursue business administration at thegraduate level. The full time MBA program spans 24months (four semesters) and requires students tocomplete a total of sixteen courses and theimmersion/internship program in order to graduate.This schedule allows students to obtain the maximumbenefit from the MBA program without over burdeningthe students with a heavy course load. Students who arealready working in Korea can pursue a part-time MBA

over a longer period of time.

Ideally the students who come into SolBridge’s MBAprogram will have a business background whether thisis academic and, or practical. In addition, students willneed a solid foundation in math to ensure success.Those students who are lacking math or basic businessknowledge may study for one or two semesters at theundergraduate level at SolBridge before entering theMBA program.

Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA)

Language courses are provided on SolBridge campus, and students can choose to study Chinese,Japanese or Korean language during their stay at SolBridge. Such study, however, is optional andshould not conflict with the program study.

Joint Programs

Inbound 2+2 programs

SolBridge has a number of inbound 2+2 relationships with quality institutions in China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and elsewhere.Institutions who teach in English or who educate students in another language but whose students have strong English skillsare welcome to join our programs. The SolBridge success for creating a multi-national environment using an Americanbusiness curriculum with a focus on business in Asia provides an excellent choice for students wishing to work in Asia or beemployed by companies with interests in Asia. The first one or two years of an institution’s Bachelor’s program arearticulated with the SolBridge curriculum and students know from the outset, what courses are transferrable.

Outbound 2+2 programs

SolBridge currently offers 2+2 outbound programs at the Georgia Institute of Technology, George Mason University, MarshallUniversity, and the State University of New York (SUNY) to its students. Additional programs are also being negotiated at thistime. These programs are especially attractive to students who wish to earn a degree in the United States, but who prefer tostay closer to home initially or to save study costs by studying at SolBridge. The student’s family can enjoy substantial costsavings.

The Georgia Institute of Technology, better known asGeorgia Tech, is one of America’s best public researchuniversities. It is known for its dedication to improvetechnology and to advance science for the betterment ofhumanity.

Named after John Marshall, the Chief Justice of the UnitedStates from 1801 to 1835, Marshall Academy wasestablished in 1837. Campus LifeSolBridge Academic Affairs & Student Services is located on the 5th floor andis available to students Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 6 PM. The office assistsstudents with the following:

a five-day airport pick-up service for all incoming students;a five-day team-building orientation program;Alien Registration Card (ARC) and work permit applications, visa renewals;course registration;bank account set up, and Smart Card registration;medical insurance application, medical check-ups, and medical services;financial services;accommodation, and off-campus living application;

It also organizes excursions and intercultural events throughout the year, making sure every student makes the most of hisor her stay in SolBridge, Daejeon, and South Korea. The office, in conjunction with our faculty members, works on an on-going basis to provide students with programs and activities that encourage our SolBridge Spirit, cultural sensitivity andunderstanding, academic excellence, and social interaction.

SolBridge students enjoy the convenience of a new residence complex calledSolGeo located on the top of a hill with a great view of the city on the east side ofthe Woosong campus. A free shuttle bus service plus a mini-bus are providedfor commute. Students living in residence will share a room with one, two, orthree other students. The majority of the rooms are equipped with a privatewashroom. The residence has laundry facilities, Internet, a coffee shop, andtwo cafeterias serving Western, Korean, and Eastern menus. Male student andfemale students live in separate building compartments. Students may apply tolive off-campus if they fulfill all the requirements of the application.

Living on Campus

A limited number of part-time jobs are available at SolBridge to enablestudents the opportunity to earn pocket money and gain work experience.Students may work in the cafeteria, gym, administration office, library, or asTeaching Assistants. Mature students may apply for a work visa to gain workexperience outside of campus. Students who qualify may even apply for a paidinternship through the Career Development Center.

Student Employment

Korean hospitals and medical services are modern, efficient and provideexcellent health care. Each student is required to purchase health insurancewhen they enroll at SolBridge to use medical services at a significantly reducedcost. Several hospitals are located in close proximity to the SolBridge campusand residence. If a student requires medical attention, SolBridge staff willassist with translation if necessary and ensure the student receives the bestcare possible.

Health Services

SolBridge Peer Group Program is a peer mentoring program designed toassist our incoming students adjust to the new environment. As an extensionof our Team-Building Orientation Program, the Peer Group Program strives tohelp new students cope with the foreseeable and unpredictable challengeswhile studying at our institution.

The program relies on a number of Peer Group Leaders each semester. PeerGroup Leaders are SolBridge students who have studied at SolBridge for atleast one semester and possess strong leadership skills and a high motivationto be a mentor to the freshmen. Peer Group Leaders are in charge of a groupof students and report back to the administration on their mentoring and onany issues that require immediate assistance.

Daejeon has a variety of efficient transportation services available. In additionto the free campus shuttle bus and mini-bus students can travel by bus,subway, taxi, bicycle or train. Daejeon is a center of transportation in SouthKorea, where two major expressways and two major railways converge.

ADMISSION CRITERIASolBridge seeks motivated individuals from diverse academic, economic, social, ethnic and geographic backgrounds.Students at SolBridge are expected to bring diversity and experience to the classroom. Acceptance to SolBridge is evaluatedon a case by case basis taking into account the student’s academic records, English proficiency, financial ability, personalessay(s), extra-curricular activities, work experience (where applicable), and letters of recommendation.

Admission is selective and students are urged to apply as early as possible to ensure sufficient time for application review,visa application and preparation for the move to Daejeon. Application deadlines are 15 June for the fall semester and 12December for the spring semester.

In order to evaluate a student’s academic capability, pre-university academic records (undergraduate applicants) or HigherEducation academic records (transfer and graduate applicants), are required. It is also important to note that duringorientation, all new students will be tested in English and Math and placed in the appropriate English or math classes basedon how they performed on the tests.

Undergraduate applicants who provide English proficiency scores that meet admission criteria will be considered for regularadmission. Scores lower than these may qualify for conditional admission. In such cases, students may be required to takeadditional English language courses. When submitting TOEFL scores, use 5980 as SolBridge TOEFL code.

Our English as a Second Language Center provides 24hours per week of study at two different levels:intermediate and advanced English learning which we callour academic skills courses (ASC). These programs areavailable to students who are conditionally admitted toSolBridge in order to help students develop the skills theyrequire for success in their studies. Students may study inthis program for a maximum of one year to qualify forregular admission.

English as a Second Language

Program

All students must provide proof that sufficient financialresources are available to support them during their firstyear at SolBridge. The Korean Immigration Servicerequires demonstration of a bank deposit of at least$10,000 for a six month period. Students are required tosubmit the Proof of Finances form and supporting bankverification with their application. New students arerequired to prepay the first year of expenses minus anyscholarship awarded.

Sufficient Financial Resources

SolBridge seeks exceptionally well-qualified studentsfrom all economic backgrounds. Partial-tuitionScholarships are available for students who havedemonstrated extraordinary scholarship and aptitude, andwho otherwise meet the admission criteria of SolBridge.Students who do not submit a TOEFL or IELTS score willnot be eligible for a scholarship. Scholarships

Undergraduate students wishing to transfer from arecognized college or university may apply as a normalstudent and provide course descriptions, and coursesyllabi along with official academic records which will beevaluated for transfer credit. Transfer students shouldhave a minimum Grade Point Equivalent of 75% with noindividual course grades lower than “C”(or equivalent).SolBridge will allow the transfer of courses that aresimilar in content and quality to those of SolBridge’srequired courses. SolBridge will also allow up to 30credits of other business courses, general educationcourses, or foreign language courses plus three to sixhours of other courses.

HOW TO APPLYApplication to SolBridge may be completed online, or by using a downloadable form. It is important that theapplication form be filled in accurately and completely and submitted with the required supplementary material.Applications and supporting documents may be submitted by e-mail, post, or fax once completed. All instructionsfor application are included in the application form as well as on our website at “www.solbridge.ac.kr”. Pleaserefer to the web site for the latest information. Submission of any falsified documents will result in a deniedadmission.

When the application is received at SolBridge, applicants will be sent a confirmation of receipt. When all requireddocuments have been received, the application will be reviewed. Normally, an applicant can expect a decision within twoweeks after all documents have been received. Once accepted, the applicant will receive an email and official admissionletter with a request for prepayment. When prepayment is received, official visa application documents will be sent to theapplicant via DHL.

Review Process and Admission Decision

Applicants who have made prepayment will receive official visa application documents, usually within two weeks ofprepayment. These documents along with additional documentation specified by the local Korean Consulate may besubmitted to apply for a visa at the nearest Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Korea. Normal requirements are thatthe applicant submits a copy of their passport, two color photos, a Letter of Acceptance, academic records, proof of finances,the visa application documents provided by SolBridge and a processing fee. Applicants are advised to contact the localKorean Consulate for specific visa requirements.

To improve your chances for a successful visa application submit only authentic documents, legitimate proof of availablefinances that have an in-bank history of at least six months, have the intention to be a full-time student in Korea, and havesufficiently strong social, economic and other reasons to return to your home country upon completion of your studies.

Scholarships

Tuition scholarships are limited and competitive. Students requesting scholarships must submit ascholarship application form for this purpose. Initial Tuition Scholarships will be awarded for a one-year period and a minimum GPA of 3.75 / 4.5 will be required to reapply for a merit scholarshipfollowing the completion of the first year.

Tuition scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance, personal essay, letter(s) ofrecommendation, transcripts and the application itself. Students who receive tuition scholarshipsmust be aware of the need to demonstrate sufficient financial resources to cover the remainder ofthe tuition not included in the scholarship plus all additional personal expenses shown above.

The SolBridge academic year consists of two AssessmentPeriods: a fifteen-week semester, followed by a five-weekstudy term and a five-week study break. In order to graduatewithin seven semesters, students are strongly encouraged toattend the five-week terms to reduce their overall costs andenter the job market one semester earlier than their peers.

Apart from tuition, students must provide for the expense ofresidence, meals, health insurance, residence security deposit(refundable if no damage is incurred), student activity fee andpersonal expenses.
