Dear Friends and Cattlemen,I would like to welcome you to

Salt Creek’s first production sale,and share with you our story. Letme start out by saying my parentsPat and Bill Stewart bought theirfirst farm the year I was born.When you grow up working onthe family farm that grows from200 acres to over 2,500 acres overa 40 year period, you learn thebusiness from the ground up. MyDad taught and told me, “if youare hard headed and hard working... you can over come any mistakesyou make. My Mom taught mehow to manage and take care of bottle calves to big cows, mostly with com-passion.

In June of 1992, at the ripe age of 25, I talked my Dad into joiningNALF. You might remember “Stewart & Son Limousin Farms.” We cut ourteeth on Fullblood cattle and soon developed a set of purebred cattle wewere proud of, we made mistakes, but mostly had success along the way.My Dad in the fall of 1997 completely dispersed his registered cattle. I onthe other hand, quietly put together a small herd on the back 40.

A change in January occurred in 2004, I met the love of my life, my wifeHollie. Marrying her has been one of my greatest accomplishments to date.Soon I met her parents, Floyd and Brenda Gauntt. And by summertimeFloyd was helping bale hay and loved working with the cattle. In the fall of2005 Floyd and I leased some land and together flushed a few of my oldcows. In 2006 we decided to call ourselves “Salt Creek Cattle & Genetics,LLC.” That fall we weaned our first calves, grabbed the proverbial bull bythe horns, and headed to Denver for the National Western Stock Show inJanuary of ’07 to get our butts handed to us. Looking back we laugh andsay, “the bigger the failure, the bigger the learning curve.” There are eventsthat change your life, that you have no control over. June of 2007 duringwheat harvest my Dad passed away unexpectedly. My Mom financially wasable to keep everything together and all of us worked harder than we hadever worked, never letting failure enter our thoughts. We miss Dad in somany different ways.

Earlier that year Dad and I had decided to use a purebred Limi bullcalled AUTO Capt Springfield 351P, on a set of Registered Angus cows wespecifically bought for him. Wow! That set of Lim-Flex calves the nextspring was Awesome! Those calves made sense or cents in so many ways, inhow they grew, what they looked like, and what it cost to raise them.

So here we are, 4 1/2 years later, with as progressive a bull battery as wecan find. And a genetically diverse set of cows, some raised and some pur-chased from like minded and trusted operations who take the time to cre-ate bovine that fit the main stream cattle industry.
