TRANING AND RESEARCH ACTIVITY 2008 - INSTITUTO TECNOLOGIA QUÍIMICA E BIOLÓGICA – Genomics of Plant Stress Lab

Auxiliary Investigator (Independent position under the program Ciência 2007). His research

interests focus on the transcriptional network regulating plant responses to environmental

and developmental stimuli. He has been particularly interested on rice responses to abiotic

stress, namely cold, high salinity and drought. His team has identified and characterized a

number of new players involved in plant stress adaptation, thus establishing a link between

specific environmental cues and developmental patterns. An integrated approach is being

used to understand plant stress responses, from the identification and functional

characterization of new players in the transcriptional network regulated by stress to the

study of post-translational protein modifications, and epigenetic mechanisms involved. He is

also interested on the molecular mechanisms underlying Photosynthesis regulation in both

C3 and C4 plants.

2004-2008 INSTITUTO TECNOLOGIA QUÍIMICA E BIOLÓGICA – Genomics of Plant Stress Lab Post Doc research on function analysis of transcription factors involved in the abiotic stress

response in rice (Oryza sativa L.). A transgenic approach was used to modulate the expression of rice genes and thus understand their biological meaning. Novel transcription factors were identified and functionally characterized. Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Margarida Oliveira

1999-2003

UNIVERSITY OF GHENT (Belgium) – Molecular Genetics Department Ph.D. research work on hormonal interactions controlling Arabidopsis hypocotyl growth, hormonal control of stomata in the hypocotyls, and study of the cytoskeleton reorganization upon hormonal treatments. Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Dominique Van Der Straeten

1998-1999

INSTITUTO GULBENKIAN DE CIÊNCIA (Portugal) - Molecular Genetics Laboratory PhD research work started with the isolation and characterization of g-tubulin(s) in Lupinus albus, and the production of specific antibodies. Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Claudina Rodrigues- Pousada.
