President’s Corner

Well, your 2012 Membership packet should be in your hand this week. If you did not receive it, please let Pam know at [email protected].

Now that the year is nearly half-over, some of our biggest events are starting to take shape.

In July we again get to try the tasty fare of local and regional restaurants in our 4th Annual Taste of Malta event! If you are or know of area restaurants who are interested in sharing their specialties with the community, please let Tony Panza know at [email protected] as soon as possible to se-cure a space.

While August is quiet for our association, Saratoga County is hopping with activity! SPAC is in full-force, the raceway is off and running (pun intended), the nearby Adirondack Mountains is a spot filled with daily trips for anyone and everyone. We know that our region is beautiful and fun and so does anyone who sees the newest “I Love NY” commercials. You can check them out here. Hats off to the Saratoga County Chamber and to our own Board member Todd Shimkus for working hard to be heard in this way!

To round-out the summer, the 3rd Annual Malta 5K Race is scheduled for Saturday, September 8th. We have collaborated once again with other local groups to support the 2012 Community Day held the same day that includes the Malta 5K Race, the Malta Parade and the Tec-Smart Open House.

And in the more immediate future, check out the all-new Malta Farmer’s Market to open Tuesday, June 5th at the Malta Community Center. Hope to see you around town and at our luncheon next week! Kevin C. Harkins, President

In the Boardroom Taste of Malta

While planning for the 4th Annual Taste of Malta scheduled for Tuesday, July 17th, is underway, we are still seeking volunteers to help with this tasty event. We are also contin-uing to add restaurants to our list of participants. If interest-ed in being a vendor or helping on the committee, please let Tony know at [email protected].

Tony Panza, Taste of Malta Chair

MBPA 5K

Planning is well under way for this year’s MBPA 5k. As many of you know, the MBPA was able to donate all the proceeds, over $13,000, to the Saratoga Rural Preservation Company and the town of Malta 1st responders. It could not have been done without all the volunteers, sponsors and, of course, participants. If you would like to get involved or find out more infor-mation, head to our website at www.maltabpa.com/malta5k or to our Facebook fan page www.facebook.com/maltabpa5k.

Paul Loomis, MBPA 5K Chair

Membership

How can all members get more benefits, connections, and value from our association? By building the membership to increase exposure and outreach. If you know of any busi-nesses, either in Malta or not, that would benefit from in-volvement in MBPA, please let Dan Wagner know. It is your association, let’s all work together to see it grow! Con-tact Dan at [email protected] or at 518-877-7999. Dan Wagner, 1st Vice President Membership Chair

We have made some subtle changes to the MBPA website in recent days to update some of the web page content, particu-larly around the FORUMs. And we have added a “Members to Member Posts & Discussion” in the Members-only content area. We have opened a discussion in the Members Only Forum and would appreciate your input and comments. Check it out and let us know your thoughts. You can reach it at: http://maltabpa.org/ then click on “Members-only” at the top right hand side of the web page. We are always looking for ways to increase the connectivity between members and the value of membership, so please let us know how we can be most helpful to you and your fellow members. Remember to keep your member profile up to date, and identify any Member-to-Member discounts you are offering, as we will be highlighting them in monthly newsletters!

BOCA BISTRO TO OPEN ON BROADWAY IN SARATOGA

Boca Bistro to be David and Roslyn Zecchini’s fourth restaurant

The owners of DZ Restaurants, David and Roslyn Zecchini, have announced a projected opening date of June 1st for their fourth restaurant, Boca Bistro; a Spanish Bistro & Tapas Bar. Boca Bistro joins the family of DZ Restaurants which includes Chianti Il Ristorante and Forno Bistro in Saratoga Springs and Pasta Pane in Clifton Park.

Boca Bistro will blend vintage Spanish elements with a distinctive contemporary spirit unique to every DZ Restaurant.

Through a mosaic of earthen and distressed textures, stylistic accents and a touch of Mediterranean influ-ence Boca Bistro will embody the charismatic essence of an authentic old-world restaurant.

A diverse menu of authentic Spanish cuisine and tap-as matched by superb interior design will result in a dining experience to rival any to be found on the cobbled streets of Spain.
