“A little love goes a long way; a lot of love lasts forever.”
2012 JANUARY - FEBRUARY - MARCH 2012 Message from our President….
Happy New Year, beautiful sisters!
The Year ahead is full of promise…..the
past, a moment in time.
I pray for each of us for a new beginning, a new plan of
action, a new spirit of unity. I pray that our hearts
come together, as well as our talents so that the work and history in which we have all participated will be
the keystone to our future. I pray that we appreciate
the steps that have been taken to provide an
environment in which to share lovingly and wholeheartedly to those who need us.
I look forward to positive changes, renewed enthusiasm, and loving hearts. After all, we are
together because we want to be…..not because we
have to be……and because God brought us all together! How blessed are we!
Love to each of you,
Maddy

Myrna’s adventure to Atlantic City was not
without drama. Firstly, her husband Duane was
sick in bed for 3 days, only up to attend one event.
Myrna called it a “push” to be up early – full
makeup, hair, gowns & shoes every day for each
event. With pride, she shared her vocal
performance & made us proud of Arizona. Ms.
California Senior America informed me that the
night before final judging, a rule was changed to
allow lip syncing in the talent category. Your
roving reporter’s opinion: disbelief, dismay &
disgust; an insult to the 34 other contestants. The
so transparent winner lip synced.
Myrna’s 2 daughters & Duane’s 2 sisters and an
old friend cheered her on! The rest of her cheering
squad included Lois, Marguerite & Pat and
Maddy. Maddy opened one show with “My
Country,„Tis of Thee” and a poem. Myrna quotes:
“I had the time of my life!”
P.S. My husband Cash can lip sync.

This lovely family Christmas production was under the direction of Sam Tardio and choreographed by Dody
Homan. With over 30 members in the cast, the spirit of
Christmas showed through every cast member, which made it a truly great show, complete with Santa, elves,
and even some kids in the show. There were 3

Ms. Senior Arizona 2008 Marilyn O’Connell
Terry Pappalardo: Born & raised in an all-Italian neighborhood in Detroit. Her Uncle Charlie owned a beer
garden; and, at ages 4 & 5, Terry stood in the middle of the place singing & twirling her dress. Terry, a self-
taught vocalist, sang alto in the Sienna Heights Catholic college a cappella choir in Adrian, Michigan. At 30,
Terry followed her dream & sang with 2 big bands between 1970 & 1982. In 1963, Terry married John
Pappalardo and had a son, John Andrew. Terry had her own business, being a personal shopper & sold retail
out of her car & home, during 1987 through 1999. She was licensed & bought wholesale. In 2000, John &
Terry moved from California to Sun City Grand, AZ; and Terry continued her singing for 10 years with the big
band there. No wonder she is such an accomplished singer! In March of 2000, our darling girl was diagnosed
with Parkinson’s, an inherited disease. At present, there is a medical study to help Parkinson’s patients move
better. There are so many advances in this study. One of our AZ Cameo Club members, Ms. Senior New York
1999 Jean McCurdy brought Terry into the Pageant in 2010. Thanks, Jean! We are so blessed to have this
talented lady as one of us!
Teddie Sue Brown: Teddie Sue, born in Lamesa, Texas; but reared from infancy in Phoenix. She has known
ultimate joy in her marriage to Buck; and ultimate sorrow when son, Scott, was tragically killed at age 37. As a
matter of fact, this horrific event brought Teddie Sue into the 1999 Pageant. Teddie was in shock, grief-stricken,
and Buck did his level best to console her. He suggested a pageant meeting – her reply was… “Are you crazy?”
Lucky us – crazy wasn’t a good reason. Teddie began living her life again. Back to 1975, when she married
Buck, the extreme joy of her life was restored. When they adopted niece Shannon, another tragedy occurred
when Teddie’s sister died. Another son, Stanley, came into her life to complete her happiness. Teddie’s credits:
(1.) an active real estate broker from 1968 until 2010; (2.) worked with Buck in business for 15 years in
Wickenburg; (3.) both Teddie & Buck were licensed pilots (she in 1977) & piloted 5 types of planes; (4.) both
have been heavy equipment operators; (5.) they had a self-sufficient 6,000 acre ranch in Wickenburg from the
1970’s through 1982. Buck died in 2008, and being blue does not describe Teddie Sue’s grief. A new life began
shortly after granddaughter Madisson was born & added to the other two grandchildren. Teddie Sue has been
our Judge’s Captain at the Ms. Senior Arizona Pageants since 2003. Among other things in her life is teaching
Bible Study sessions. Her favorite quote: “We can make somebody happy every day, even if it’s minding our
own business.” This loving & giving person always finds something good in people!
Ms. Senior Arizona 2006, Peggy Brown: Speaking of Shirley Temple, which I often do, Peggy
started as a wee one also….but she was not in Hollywood. Born in Centralia, Illinois, Peggy, at age 3, sang on
the radio; and in Kindergarten, she sang “Oh, You Beautiful Doll” and “Always” – “Good Heavens!” –
“really?” REALLY! Miss Centralia at age 6 and piano lessons at age 5 through her junior year of college (for
which she won $500.00 at a statewide talent camp.) Peggy, owning 2 motels in Prescott, met her husband Jim at
Prescott’s famous Palace Saloon, and married 3 months later. Jim, childless, was in love & brave enough to take
on Peggy & 4 children! Then, he took her shoes….. “made her barefoot & pregnant” with their second child
and moved them to Scott Bar, California (population 56). Peggy’s background includes: real estate broker,
property manager, Arthur Murray dance instructor, and a swimming & dance aerobics instructor. Favorite times
have been: playing Maria in a production of “The Sound of Music”, playing the role of Sister Herbert in a
production of “Nunsense”, plus….singing all the soprano solos in Mesa’s Messiah production with the Phoenix
Symphony. Facts we know: past board president of our Arizona Cameo Club and current Performance Director
of our Cameo Shows. Jim & Peggy’s house burned down on March 21st of 2010, and Peggy couldn’t sing for a
long time due to smoke inhalation. (There’s an incredible story in itself!) Peggy’s back, and in great voice! We
love you, Peggy and Jim.
On October 1
st, a lovely luncheon was held at the Arrowhead Country Club, followed by a fashion show that was most
entertaining. Fashions were by Dillard’s and the dancing models were some of our queens, Cameo Club ladies & guests,
ranging from ages 4 – over 70. The event was sponsored by the Cameo Foundation, the Ms. Senior Arizona Organization
& the Arizona Cameo Club to benefit our four “Families in Crisis” charities. All the credits, for this event, were published in our last newsletter edition, but without one single photo. So, here are some of our dancing models, our 3
soloists, & guest emcee, Fox 10 News celebrity Cory McCloskey!
