November 15, 2012
Welcome to the New England Clean Energy Council’s 5th Annual Green Tie Gala.
Tonight we’re celebrating 6 years of NECEC successes and the contributions our companies and partners have made to grow the clean energy economy of New England.
The New England clean energy cluster is a model for the country. In spite of the politicization and lack of policy progress on the national stage, New England is showing what clean energy success looks like. Our inventors continue to discover; our entrepreneurs continue to start new companies; our teams continue to grow, add jobs and form go-to-market strategic partnerships; and our region’s energy is cleaner and more efficient while energy bills are declining. Our Governors and leg-islatures get it, and are strong partners supporting clean energy policies and regional economic growth.
Our keynote speaker, Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, exemplifies this strong pub-lic sector partner. Through his leadership, a Comprehensive Energy Plan, charting a course to supply 90% of Vermont’s energy needs through energy efficiency and renewables by 2050, was created. Vermont will be a force for clean energy, to the benefit of our region.
For NECEC and our sister organization, NECEF, this has been a year of major orga-nizational growth. We have tripled our staff size, becoming more deeply involved in policy initiatives, communications efforts, innovation programs and market segment development than ever before.
In 2013, we’re committed to working with our members and our national partner, Advanced Energy Economy, to strengthen our advocacy, outreach, programs, rela-tionships and “voice of the clean energy industry” to tell the many, positive impacts clean energy has made to build support for continued growth.
The clean energy community comes together on this special evening to celebrate 2012 accomplishments and strengthen relationships for growth in 2013. I want to particularly thank our Gala sponsors: Deloitte, the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, Polachi, William Gallagher Associates, Comerica Bank, Rasky Baerlein Strategic Communications and Wolf Greenfield. Finally, I acknowledge the support and involvement of our members who continue to define our region as a clean energy economy leader.
Congratulations all, and enjoy the evening.
Peter Rothstein, President
