about us
The Bremer Institute of TafE is a leading provider of relevant, world-class vocational education and training. A winning standard of excellence guarantees the knowledge, skills, qualifications and opportunities for success.
our people
Our team of qualified industry professionals - from the front of the classroom, onsite in your workplace, to the back office – are the best at what they do.
Students and customers unanimously agree that our teachers, trainers and staff are helpful, supportive, and dedicated professional mentors and experts.
our approach
an industry-driven approach and strong vocational ties make us the first choice for industry and employers.
We think outside the square classroom to deliver flexible learning options that fit around your busy lifestyle or workplace needs.
our facilities
Our modern facilities at Bundamba, Springfield and Inala campuses are fully equipped with cutting-edge technologies and industry-specific resources to maximise learning outcomes. open learning and blended learning options (online, distance education or on campus) are continuing to grow and position us as the go-to provider for flexible qualifications.
The Bremer TafE’s Community Services lead vocational teacher, Judy Williams is officially a legend. She was named a 2011 auSTafE legend for her leadership and innovative contributions to community services over her 13-year career. Judy’s extensive experience has been sought by beginner teachers and she has provided mentoring to others by promoting technology and its application in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. auSTafE is a professional association dedicated to VET and developing leaders within TafE.
“the facilities are amazing. We have access to top quality products and tools, which provide a professional environment where we feel like we’re learning and practising real technical skills in a real workplace that values excellent service and outcomes for every client.”vanessa, Certificate III in Beauty Student and small business owner, credits the fully-functioning hair and beauty salon at the Springfield campus for preparing her for industry recognition. Vanessa was placed second in the 2011 Global Nail Design Awards’ acrylic tip/sculpture novice category, received a Special Mention for Elegant Design at the 2010 Lisheer Clear Nail Art Competition and ranked second in the 2010 Christmas Nail art competition held by industry supplier, Lish Nail Creations.

pathways to university
didn’t get the overall position (op) or Tertiary Education rank (TEr) you needed for uni? studying at taFe is an alternative pathway to university.
TafE graduates make great university students. They’ve got practical knowledge in their field and are already in the study groove. They typically achieve better results than school students who go straight to university from school.
once you know what program you’re interested in, check out the TafE Qld website to see which universities you can gain direct entry into. Visit www.tafe.qld.gov.au for all the information required for articulation to university.
reduce your study time and cost of study
The Bremer TafE has credit agreements with major Queensland universities. If you complete a diploma or advanced diploma, universities will welcome you directly into a wide variety of their degree programs and they’ll give you credit for the study you’ve completed.
This means you could skip the application process with QTaC and jump straight into the second year of university. as most TafE programs are government subsidised, choosing this option could deliver significant cost savings.
improving your op
Studying a Certificate III or higher at The Bremer TAFE will improve your overall position (op) rank or Tertiary Entrance rank (TEr). The table below shows a minimum TEr and op which may be awarded upon successful completion of our programs.
Certificate III Approx. TER of 68 or equivalent to OP16
Certificate IV Approx. TER of 74 or equivalent to OP13
diploma Approx. TER of 82 or equivalent to OP10
advanced diploma Approx. TER of 91 or equivalent to OP6
“Six months ago, I never would have dreamed things would have turned around like this – I feel like I’ve got my whole life in front of me again.
STEpp has shown me that even though I fell pregnant as young as I did, I don’t have to sacrifice my career or the joys of having a little baby boy as I can have both.”Amy, participant in The Bremer Institute of TAFE’s Studying, Training and Effective Parenting Program (STEPP). STEPP brings together teenage mothers sharing the same unique parenting and education pathways, creating bonds and support networks unlike mainstream learning frameworks.
For more information on STEPP, see page 6.
pathwaysFrom short courses to advance diploma qualifications, tailored
training packages, apprenticeships or traineeships, or community
and school programs, there are opportunities for just about anyone.

pathways to employment and career opportunities
unemployed, just left school, or looking to change careers or upgrade your skills, and not sure what you want to do? The Bremer TafE is a great starting point where you can gain the relevant skills and knowledge to get you job ready.
We have over 250 programs on offer, ranging from short courses to advanced diplomas, and they can provide you with the qualifications required to find employment or follow a different career calling.
If you want a career change, The Bremer TafE has a training solution for you. Just over a third of students in 2010 were studying programs in areas different to their current profession.
The Bremer TafE also offers part-time, evening and blended options so you can study around work and family commitments.
The more skills and qualifications you have, the more likely you are to increase your wage level.
pathways based on your experience
Have you gained knowledge and skills through your work, life experience, training or education? If so, you might already be part-way to completing a qualification.
applying for recognition of prior learning (rpl) or a credit transfer can fast-track your studies so you can kick-start your career sooner and also save on the cost of your qualification. It adds up to apply so the cost of study and time taken to attain your qualification doesn’t.
rpl and credit transfers recognise your current skills and knowledge. They are an important assessment pathway, particularly for people who are considering undertaking study as the recognition gained may considerably reduce the money spent and the study time needed to obtain a qualification.
a credit transfer recognises previous formal learning already completed at registered training organisations. Students simply need to show official evidence of the learning and results achieved. rpl is the formal acknowledgement current skills and knowledge - no matter how, when or where the learning occurred.
potential students should apply for recognition of prior learning or a credit transfer at the same time they enroll, before their training actually commences.
Even if you have never formally studied or trained in a particular area, you may be able to have your skills formally recognised at The Bremer TafE.
• Speed up your qualification
• Reduce the cost of acquiring a formal qualification
• Save time by not having to complete parts of a program recognised by rpl
• Enhance your current practical knowledge with professional education and training
If you are considering studying at The Bremer TafE and believe you have the relevant work experience in the area of study, talk to Customer Service Centre staff about applying for rpl before you enrol.

“since graduating from the Bremer taFe, my new career in community services has brought such great rewards and i’m so happy that i took the plunge to engage in a new career opportunity. i was actually offered a job with a community youth service agency at the end of my Diploma after completing my program work placement hours there.”
rosalind, Diploma in Community Services (Youth Work) graduate and recipient of the RA Wearne Memorial Student Award for Excellence in Learning, changed career from a successful profession in hospitality management and public relations to follow her dream of working with young people. Driven by a passion to contribute to people’s lives, Rosalind has been invited to be a TAFE ambassador based on her continuing success as a community service youth worker.

art is a vital counselling tool because it allows young people to express emotions they initially might not feel comfortable speaking out loud - allowing the healing to begin.
Our young people really benefited from having highly creative people who are training as artists and knowledgeable about art techniques.”leanne Brown, the Base Youth agency lead Counsellor. The Bremer TAFE Diploma of Visual Arts students volunteered their artistic skills to assist in The Base Youth Agency’s Recovery Art Program, coordinated to help over 40 Goodna youths who experienced the January 2011 flood devastation express their feelings through art therapy.Recovery Art Program participants (from left to right) Leteesha and
