The DeVry University Education Fund scholarship helped me pay my tuition, encouraged me to keep a good grade point average and enabled me to achieve my educational goals. I’m thankful for that.

Tom BabelChairman DeVry University Education Fund

On behalf of the DeVry University Education Fund Board of Directors, I am pleased to present the Fund’s inaugural Annual Report. Going through the pages of this report, you will see how the Education Fund supports our students through scholarships. Through the generosity of our many donors and supporters, students who need this support more than ever can continue to pursue their academic and career goals. Because of our contributors, the Education Fund is having a positive impact on the lives of our students.

This past year was full of “firsts” for the Education Fund. In 2012, the Fund surpassed the $1 million mark in funds received. Also in 2012, the Education Fund awarded a record $123,000 in scholarships, made possible in part by new fundraising opportunities. As an example, our inaugural golf outing was attended by many corporate partners of DeVry University and raised over $200,000, which will fund future scholarships. This past year also saw a record number of scholarship registrations, applications and awards issued to students. In addition, the Board agreed to expand its membership; new members are slated to join the Board and contribute their insights to help further the mission of the Education Fund.

As our world continues to be more interdependent, the need for a solid education becomes more evident. Through the generous support of DeVry colleagues, alumni and other partners, students who demonstrate need and academic achievement can be granted assistance. The Education Fund provides the opportunity for students to focus squarely on improving their lives — and the lives of their families — through the power of education.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to grow the Education Fund and foster student success. ”

The DeVry University Education Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization that strives to keep education within reach by providing financial support in the form of

scholarships to DeVry University students.

To provide scholarships to continuing students, especially those with both great financial need and successful academic track records, the DeVry University Education Fund was established in 2000. The Fund is a not-for-profit organization that operates in concert with, but as a separate entity from, DeVry University.

Although DeVry University provides scholarships, loans and grants, many students still need financial assistance. The Education Fund strives to help students bridge this financial gap.

Education Fund scholarships are awarded to current DeVry University and Keller Graduate School of Management students. Many of these students, in spite of facing the challenges of dynamic personal situations and complex schedules, continue their

BACKGROUNDeducation to advance their professional ambitions. The Education Fund supports student success by helping qualified students achieve a higher education and invest in a better future.

The DeVry University Education Fund awards both restricted and unrestricted scholarships. Restricted scholarships are made possible through substantial donations from corporate partners, alumni and DeVry colleagues who may choose to start a named fund to memorialize a friend or loved one. Restricted scholarships may be allocated for students at specific campuses or in certain degree programs.

Unrestricted scholarships are based on funds received from donors and are awarded to qualifying candidates throughout the University regardless of program of study, location or other specific criteria.

The DeVry University Education Fund celebrated a number of notable successes in 2012: the creation of the Fund’s website, a record number of scholarship applications and scholarship awards totaling $123,000.

DeVry University Education Fund WebsiteThis past year, the Fund launched a new website, www.DeVryUniversityEducationFund.org, which provides a single access point and source of information for students and prospective donors. Visitors can make a donation, apply for scholarships or submit questions to the Education Fund staff. The site, which is updated quarterly, also features recognition and expressions of gratitude to contributors, provides highlights of activities and honors scholarship recipients.

Scholarship Application AutomationIn 2012, an online scholarship tracking and reporting system was launched, allowing a more efficient process for student applicants and the Education Fund’s administrative staff. This web-based system provides the opportunity for applicants to readily identify available scholarships, and to complete and submit applications electronically. Administratively, all applications in 2012 were processed, reviewed and scored online.

HIGHLIGHTSScholarship AwardsApplications for Fund scholarships were accepted December 1, 2011 through February 15, 2012. Communications to all eligible students were distributed several times throughout the application period. The result was an unprecedented number of registrations and applications. In all, 4,734 registrations and 998 applications were received. The abundance of qualified applicants resulted in all 93 scholarships being awarded, at a value of $123,000.

Contributions in 2012

The Education Fund expanded fundraising efforts to engage corporate partners and DeVry colleagues in 2012. These efforts proved highly successful in obtaining funds to further assist students. As a result, the December 31, 2012 year-end fund balance increased 62 percent from the prior year, with the largest growth reflected in contributions from corporate partners and DeVry colleagues.

CONTRIBUTIONSAs a way to enhance support from our corporate partners, the Fund launched its inaugural golf outing fundraiser in 2012. Held at Hinsdale Golf Club in Clarendon Hills, Illinois, this event provided an opportunity for our corporate partners to enjoy a day with DeVry senior leadership. The event resulted in a net contribution to the Education Fund of more than $200,000. Due to its success, this event is planned to occur on an annual basis.

In addition, DeVry colleagues across the country embodied the desire to help students through expanded support of the Education Fund. The results of the colleague participation program and employee payroll deduction contributions to the Education Fund in 2012 reflected tremendous growth and commitment. Colleague participation grew more than 1,000 percent from 2011. At the end of 2012, 9.9 percent of DeVry University colleagues were participants in this program. DeVry University matches colleague donations up to $100,000 each calendar year. In 2012, more than 500 colleagues participated in the Education Fund, contributing $52,504.
