45-minute classes daily and enjoy snacks near the end of each day. The cost for the two-week program was $110 this summer. Students who do not own their own instruments can often borrow them from their school, or they rent them from Troll Music in Venice or Vogt’s Music in Sarasota, Heskett said.

Campers are allowed and even encouraged to do more than one thing, such as singing and playing an instrument.

“We cater to the multi-aspect musician,” Heskett said.

The final day of camp, the students give a concert

at the Venice Church of the Nazarene, which has been the home of the Venice Symphony for several years.

“We want to add a senior camp for adults,” sym-phony manager Doug Kerr said. “That is one of the goals Ken (Bowermeister) and I set. We also could have a youth orchestra in the new hall.”

When the new perform-ing arts center is complet-ed at Venice High School, it will become the new home of the Venice Symphony, Exsultate! and the Venice Concert Band, Kerr said.
