Granada counselors will visit our feeder middle schools to introduce themselves to our incoming students and allow them to:

Feeder schools include Nobel, Henry, Frost, Holmes, Sepulveda, Porter, and Lawrence. The visitations will take place in March and April.

Two–Week Summer Transition Academy
WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Students who are eligible for the two-week academy MUST have tested Proficient or Advanced on both Math and English sections of the California Standards Test. In addition, students must have completed Algebra 1AB and English with a minimum grade of “C” grade. Students will attend PSAT English and Math Prep classes which focus on critical thinking skills and test taking skills. All students attend assemblies which cover topics such as graduation and college requirements, bullying, sexual harassment, suicide prevention, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, internet safety, academic integrity and other topics. During the registration process, students will tour the school, purchase PE clothes, receive their locker assignments, and school IDs. Eligible students can sign-up for one of the below sessions at their middle school or at GHCHS in the Activities & Intervention Office.
Session One: June 27-July 9 Session Two: July 11-July 22
Hours of attendance are 8:00 am to 12:20 pm. Students must attend the last day of the academy to receive full credit. *There is no school July 4, 2011; however students must attend Saturday, July 9.
The Academy
The Summer Transition Academy is a graduation requirement for all incoming 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. It includes a variety of academic and social orientation activities that are designed to:
Provide a successful transition to high school
Increase 9th grade academic performance
Develop a four-year academic success plan
Introduce students to high school and create a college readiness culture
Empower students to better communicate with their peers and staff
Help students develop and set short-term and long-term goals
Improve study skills, time management, and test-taking skills
Introduce families and students to higher education
Increase the number of students who enroll in higher education
Requirement Attending the Summer Transition Academy is a GHCHS graduation requirement. Students must attend either a two-week or a four-week Summer Academy Session. Session length will depend on STAR test proficiency levels in both Math and English, and on a student’s Math and English grades. Students who cannot attend the summer between their 8th and 9th grade may appeal to attend the summer between their 9th and 10th grade. Appeals will be limited and are granted by a committee. Four–Week Summer Transition Academy
WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Students who test Basic, Below Basic or Far below Basic on the STAR test in Math and/or English must attend the four-week academy. Students who have not taken Algebra I in the 8th grade or if they received lower than a “C” grade in Algebra I AND/OR English classes must also attend the four-week session.. Students will attend Math and English classes with a focus on study skills and critical thinking. All students attend assemblies which cover topics such as graduation and college requirements, sexual harassment, suicide prevention, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, internet safety and academic integrity and other topics. During the registration process, students will tour the school, purchase PE clothes, receive their locker assignments, and school IDs.
