Role of Governors

• Hold H/T and senior team to account

• Focus on the attainment and educational experience of the children in your school

• Set the targets and strategic direction of the school

• ‘Ask the right questions’

Page 14: 2011 Results – Key Messages

Key Questions (1)

• What did the school predict its KS outcomes would be last year? What actually happened? If there was a big difference, why?

• What are the predictions for this year? What are they based on? Is the school confident in the predictions? Why?

• How often are teachers required to report on the progress their pupils are making? Is the teacher’s assessment validated in any way?

Page 15: 2011 Results – Key Messages

Key Questions (2)

• How often do Governors receive information about predicted results for this year’s cohort? If school collate this on a half termly basis, do Governors see it?

• Do Governors receive an easy to understand, neutral review of standards and achievement on an annual basis? Who provides this?
