Normally a Jumbo Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger is used for dredging at depths of more than 100m. This requires a large

investment. The expensive dredging equipment is only used while dredging. This equipment is mainly “dead cargo” when sailing to the place of delivering the sand. The new approach requires a signifi cantly lower investment. This new concept is a reliable, inexpensive system to dredge at sea at great depths over 100 m.

As Senior Policy Advisor, Lodewijk Abspoel works on international and national marine spatial planning issues, building on a network of marine spatial planning practitioners in Europe. Next to this he is secretary to the directors of the various ministries for integrated maritime policy in/on the North Sea (IDON). Before working on North Sea issues, he was with the Directorate General of the Civil Aviation Authority working on efficient and effective interactive policy making, taking into account the views of all stakeholders. He started his career working on a project advising on water policy for the Netherlands in the 21st century.

After almost 23 years with HAM, he joined Van Oord ACZ Ltd in December 2000 and was appointed Managing Director in the United Kingdom. Windhorst initiated and participated in the North West European HSE case development project of the IADC, which is currently evolving in a de facto world standard. He received several awards for his work.

Ruud zOONManaging�Director�GDF�Suez�E&P�Nederland

Ruud Zoon started his career with Mobil in The Netherlands in 1984. Between 1984 and 1998 he worked in various roles with Mobil in the UK and the USA, after which he became VP Floating Production with Bluewater Energy Services. From 2004 to 2008 Ruud moved to Canada to work with Husky Energy. Returning to The Netherlands, Ruud became Managing Director of Cirrus Energy, a position he held for two years before moving on to his current role with GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland BV. He holds an MSc in Petroleum Engineering of Delft University of Technology and an MBA of Henley Management College.
