Innovations within
Aarrow Stoves
01 02
Since the first Aarrow stove was made over 30 years ago, the
Aarrow brand has been associated with truly excellent design,
impeccable quality and superior performance.
About Aarrow
At Aarrow, we pride ourselves on our reputation for excellent
quality and well-built stoves. To ensure that every stove
leaving our factory is finished to the highest standards, each
individual stove is quality checked by each department as it
progresses down the production line.
We feel that it is important to support British industry we
dont just build our stoves in Devon, we also source as many
of the raw materials from the UK as possible. We then build
good, long-standing relationships with these carefully
selected British suppliers to ensure that only the highest
quality raw materials go into our stoves.
Each and every stove is handcrafted within our purpose-built
factory to European Standard EN13240.
This is why we are currently the only stove
manufacturer to offer a lifetime guarantee*.
Design excellence
Stove design has come a long way in the 30 years I have
been in the industry. More often than not, my designs under
the Aarrow brand have been at the forefront of change in
technology. Aarrow stoves are engineered, they are much more
than just black boxes. How efficient can they become? How
controllable and easy to use can they be made? My designs
strive to answer these questions through innovation. I am
constantly seeking improvement; trying to reach perfection.
John Burgis n Chief Executive
The team of expert designers behind Aarrow stoves have
a combined experience of 45 years. They have thoroughly
investigated every element of the process that turns fuel
into useful heat, as part of their design development.
Our findings have kept Aarrow at the forefront of stove design,
developing features such as the airwash system, secondary
burn and PADS (Primary Air Diversion System).
The end result i s a highly effi cient and cont rollable stove that
is easy to use. Stoves from Aarrow can burn wood for a
longer period of time, with industry leading efficiency ratings
of over 80%.
For stove users, this means
less fuel is used and more
heat is generated.
More often than not, my
designs under the Aarrowbrand have been at theforefront of change intechnology.
No other manufacturer offers a complete system to
maximise the efficiency of both wood and solid fuel. We
call it PADS (Primary Air Diversion System). It changes
the air flow to allow an under draught of air beneath
solid fuel or an over draught for wood to ensure each
fuel burns in its favoured environment.
Over Draught
Grate and PADS set for
wood burning,
providing an over
draught to the fuel bed.
Under Draught
Grate and PADS set for
solid fuel burning,
providing an under
draught to the fuel bed.
Airwash System
Directs pre-heated air evenly across the fire door, creating ashield between the fire chamber and the glass to ensure that
you can always see th e flames clearly.
Secondary/Tertiary Burn
The secondary burn system controls the flow of air within the
stove, circulating air to allow any unburnt gasses to re-ignite
and generate extra heat.
For wood burning, the tertiary burn system introduces hot
oxygen into the firebox, directly at the heart of the stove. This
then re-ignites any unburnt gases and results in greater
efficiency, a cleaner chimney and less pollution.

The environment Choosing the right stove...
03 04
Coal, oil and gas are fossil fuels that have evolved from the
decomposition of natural materials over millions of years.
They contain high levels of carbon dioxide, which is released
into the atmosphere during the combustion process and
damages the environment.
Wood is referred to as a carbon neutral fuel because the
amount of carbon dioxide it will emit when burnt is equal to
the amount absorbed during the life of the tree.
Burning wood is kinder to the environment than any
other domestic fuel.
If you are buying a stove for the first time, we offer the
following advice to help you purchase the right stove for
your needs.
The most important point when choosing a stove is the
output required to heat the room in which it will be installed.
As a rough guide, measure the room and multiply width x
depth x height (in metres), and divide this by 14. This will
provide the average heating requirements for the room in
kilowatts. This formula is based on the assumption that the
required room temperature is 20c with an outside
temperature of 0c.
Please remember that this is based on an average room.
The number of doors an d windows in th e room and other
factors such as stairs leading from the room may increase
the output required. Similarly, a well insulated house may
reduce the requirements.
For a room measuring 4.9m x 4.9m x 2.4m, multiply 4.9 x 4.9
x 2.4 then divide by 14 which makes 4.1. The heat output
required is 4.1kW; therefore an Ecoburn multifuel with a heat
output of 1-5kW would provide sufficient heating for this
room. If there is excessive heat loss from the room through
windows, doors and stairways, the Ecoburn 7 with a higher
heat output of up to 6kW would be recommended.
The technical information at the back of this brochure shows
the heat output of each stove.
You may also want to consider the size of the stove in relation
to where it will be placed; more often than not, this will be in a
chimney opening. The technical information at the back of
this brochure shows the dimensions of each stove.
Whatever your requirements, we are sure you will find a stove
within this brochure that will add a warming glow to the heart
of your home.DEFRA exemption
Our new DEFRA exempt stoves have been developed for
use in smoke control zones set out by DEFRA. All of
these stoves have been approved for use within smoke

Wood
As a natural and renewable fuel, wood is the natural first choice for burning, as long as it is dry and wellseasoned. Hard woods such as Oak, Beech, and Ash will give the most heat and burn for longer,
whereas soft wood will require more frequent refuelling.
Solid Fuel
Modern stoves are designed for use with modern, cleaner burning and smokeless fuels. The following
are well known suitable fuels: Phurnacite, Homefire Ovals, Taybrite, Maxibrite and Ancit (a comprehensive
list can be found at www.hetas.co.uk). It is always worth testing a few types of fuel on your appliance
before buying in bulk as they do vary in their performance in different situations. Soft household coal
should never be burnt on a stove.
Chimney Sweeping
You should sweep your chimney at the very least once a
year, up to four times a year if you burn large amounts of
wood. Whenever Im asked, I always recommend Aarrow
stoves because they all have a removable or dropdown
throat plate to make chimney sweeping easier.
