Your Flagler education isn’t about learning information to

pass a test. It’s about learning that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Your professors are accomplished scholars

who excel in their own fields, like the successful

lawyer who now teaches business at Flagler.

Or the professor who once lived in Italy and takes

students to Florence to visit world-famous museums

and to Israel to study its rich history firsthand. Or

the retired judge who helps his pre-law students

select a law school. Or the professor who takes

students to Costa Rica to perform community

service. Even better: They’ll know you by name—

and they’ll be there for you, every step of the way.

Programs like IGNITE, our year-long freshman

Learning Communities program, will deepen your

learning experience. Nationally recognized as an

“enriching high-impact experience,” IGNITE

clusters courses around a central interdisciplinary

theme, helping you to gain greater knowledge

and develop strong communication and critical

thinking skills.

In addition to helping you thrive in the classroom,

the supportive environment of the IGNITE

program will assist your transition into a new social

environment—helping you make new and lasting

friendships, encouraging a sense of belonging

and participation in the Flagler community, and

helping you cope with the new and often daunting

responsibilities—both in the classroom and beyond—

that inevitably come with the college experience.

“ We uphold rigorous academic and professional

behavior standards for our students. The

result? Our students possess a competitive

advantage. We’re told our students who do

internships are the best presenters and the

most prepared for workplace success.”

Through study abroad trips, you’ll explore the world while

expanding your worldview. You’ll climb Machu Picchu, walk on the

Great Wall of China, and learn firsthand about World War II by

exploring battlefields in Europe. Through our alternative spring

break trips, you’ll make a difference in the world, like our students

who built a sustainable garden to feed people in Ecuador.

Gateway toopportunity

Getting where you want to go in life

requires you to have experiences that

will prepare you for the next step.

At Flagler, you’ll be surrounded by

people who will put opportunities

directly in your path.

because our faculty and staff actually know you,

they’ll be on the lookout for internships that fit you best.

That’s what happened to the business majors who landed

internships at the Palm Coast/St. Augustine Merrill

Lynch office. And the communication major who earned

an internship at the Cannes Film Festival. And the sport

management students who regularly intern with the Miami

Heat, Daytona 500, Orlando Magic, Jacksonville Jaguars,

and other well-known sports organizations.

It was a professor’s connections to law enforcement officials

across the country that led a sociology major to an internship

with the Colorado Springs Police Department. Even better:

Some internships have led to jobs, like our student whose

internship with the Institute on Political Journalism led to a

position with C-SPAN.

Your “Gateway to Opportunity” expands through clubs,

like our national championship-winning Students In Free

Enterprise (SIFE) team, which has beaten major universities,

including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,

Boston College, the University of Florida, and the University

of Arizona. Our Society for the Advancement of Management

(SAM) team won its 10th Campus Chapter Performance

Program national title, which recognizes the best SAM

chapter in the country. In just eight weeks—with no outside

help—the Flagler team reviewed Whole Foods, their case

company, conducted a financial analysis, and provided

strategic recommendations.

A successful internship as a finance professional at Walt Disney Parks

and Resorts led to a full-time job at Disney for Ian Waterhouse. Ian,

who majored in accounting and business, credits his Flagler education.

“I was prepared to handle a multitude of demands because of the

leadership skills I gained through campus clubs—and because my

professors challenged me to think critically and express myself clearly

and concisely.”
