September 2011 Volume 18 Issue 09 The Monthly Newsletter of Kishwaukee Valley ABATE Page 1 WORDS FROM THE PREZ Well Sturgis has come and gone and of the people from Rockford, as far as I know, all returned safely. There were some bike problems in the group, but this year, I wasn’t one of them. Ernie and Denise March were married in Spearfish Canyon by Roughlock Falls in a really nice ceremony. They had a “rock ceremony” that I wasn’t too sure what was going to happen, but was kind of neat once we all understood we weren’t going to stone them at the end. Congratulations Ernie and Denise, may you have all the best. We had our Board/Membership meeting at Bob and Rosie Andersons house and it was attended by 32 members. Almost as many as we had at our last regular meeting, sad to say. Hopefully we’ll have a good turnout at the Sept. meeting. Rosie and Bob put out a great spread of food and if you left there hungry it was your own fault. Thank you Bob and Rosie and everyone else that brought food and attended. It was a great time. Ok, now for some good and bad news. The lowlife that I spoke of in the last article that hit and run Nate and his friend Kelli with the silver mustang has been caught. This dirt bag hid his car and pretty much laid low trying to avoid arrest, but I feel, thanks to Kristi at Whiskey’s Roadhouse, putting it about daily on their face book page, and all of you and your friends spreading the word about this hit and run, Ryan Mathew Johnson, the “alleged” driver was finally arrested. Unfortunately our broken judicial system here in Winnebago County, thanks to I’m sure a shyster Lawyer, a weak kneed prosecutor, and a could care less Judge allowed this hit and run artist’s bond to be reduced from 75,000 to 5,000 so he could walk for a mere $500.00. It seems to hit and run a motorcyclist in Winnebago County doesn’t mean much to States Attorney Joe Bruscato and his bunch. Kelli Cipolla, a young Mom in her early twenties will spend the rest of her life missing her leg just below the knee thanks to this Puke. Now if this doesn’t piss you off as much as it has me, then you are much too liberal for my blood, but if you feel as I do about this accident and the injustice that has been dealt out by our judicial system so far, contact States Attorney Joe Bruscato, any and all of your State and County Officials, Judges if you personally know any, and politely, but pointedly, state your opposition to the coddling of this criminal so far, and also ask your State Senators and Representatives to pass a law making hitting and running a motorcyclist the same a s hitting a state or county worker, and put a high, non revocable bond and a stiff, like 10 year, minimum sentence on this offense. I also hope that any and all of you that can attend any hearings or trials on Mr. Ryan Mathew Johnson and wear your ABATE shirts to let this broken court system of ours that we are out here and that WE VOTE! On October 1 st a Poker Run and Benefit will be held at Whiskey’s Roadhouse for the victim of this hit and run, Kelli Cipolla, to help finance an artificial leg so she can try to somewhat resume a modicum of the life she had before this scum bag entered into it. I hope that you and every motorcyclist that you know or can contact will attend this benefit and also voice your feelings on what should happen to this hit and run driver, who obviously, has absolutely no regard for you or any motorcyclist’s life. Let’s do everything we can to put this guy away for a long, long, time. Oh yea, and for any liberals out there that might be reading this and say it was just an “accident”, when you plow into a motorcycle and then speed up leaving them laying in the road to possibly die, that’s aggressive malicious assault, if not attempted murder in my book and no “accident”. Ok, now on to the biggest train wreck in my lifetime and the fine product of the Peoples

Republic of Cook County, Barrack Hussain Obama. Like I said last month, those 535 lily livered losers that we have in Washington just raised the debt ceiling, giving this mental midget, Barrack HUSSAIN Obama, a virtual blank check to further destroy our and our Grand children’s future. We have Representatives, one right here from Rockford, that ran for office bleating term limits, but once in that money pit of Congress, became a member of the good ol’ boys club and settled in forever. Somehow, we voter’s, need to elect people that are willing to work for us and do it in a maximum of two terms in office. Then return to civilian life, without the grandiose perks and retirements they now get. We need to quit listening to one party or the other, Unions, or any other group that blindly follows these losers that are in there now. Good (very few) and bad, they all, 535 of them, need to be replaced. Bar none! What has just happened in Washington should influence you by now. They keep saying they’ll reduce spending over the next ten years. At the rate we’re spending now, America won’t be here in ten years. Wake up America! Mr. Barrack HUSSAIN Obama wants socialism. Remember one thing, Socialism eventually runs out of other people’s money. If you are having any trouble focusing on any of this, just look to Europe for a glaring example of how Socialism works out.

One more thing and that’s our internet website for our Chapter. This is in dismal shape and really hasn’t been updated thoroughly since 2009. Oh, I know, we have a Facebook page out there. Well, not everyone is on Facebook, and some, like myself, don’t want to dump their underwear drawer out for the whole world to see, just so I can access our Chapters page to see what’s going on. Hopefully, in the 340 plus members we currently have, there is someone willing to help our current Webmaster repair and update it and if necessary, take it over. Please contact me

or attend our next meeting on Sept. 11th. The whole world can access this site so let’s at least have a site that proudly represents our chapter with some current information.

Well that’s it for my ramblings for this month. Please remember these are just my thoughts, although I’m sure we’d be headed in the right direction if more people thought like this.

Have a safe summer for what’s left of it and remember, it’s a jungle out there.

Your Prez Bob Nordvall

August 2011 MEETING MINUTES

None Submitted

State Board Report

Hello KVA,

I want to apologize for my newsletters lately, but I have been very busy at work. Rosie and I want to thank everyone who showed up for the August meeting at our house. The food and the camaraderie was excellent. Congrats to Ernie and Denise on their Sturgis wedding! We love you guys! Our Board of Directors meeting was in Springfield on August 20th. Although our meeting was on time, there was a lot of content pertinent to daily business but we also talked about our legal representative, Rod Taylor being inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Sturgis. Congratulations Rod! What an honor! We also talked about legislative matters facing us. If anyone wants info on this, call me or go to Ondgo for ABATE of Illinois, or show up to a meeting at the VFW in Loves Park and listen to my speech at the next meeting. Let’s come to the next meeting and step up for a position or help others with theirs.

See you in September,

Bob

State Board Representative

Safety & Ed

As I reported last month its summer time and schools are closed so we haven't had any share the road presentations. In August I will send out letters to the schools to remind them to start thinking about scheduling presentations. I haven't heard much from the schools and I wonder how much the teacher lay offs are going to affect presentations long term. I will have to build up all those relationships again.

Had a good time and great food at Bob & Laura's (Rosie) house for the August un-official meeting. Thanks for putting such a great spread! The farmer I got the corn from got a kick out of me picking up 5 dozen ears of corn on my motorcycle. Don't get the trailer out much but when I do I put it to work. Which brings to this month's safety tip:

When loading your trailer for a long trip, or the trip home from the grocery store, remember to keep enough of the weight forward of the axle center point to maintain a positive hitch load. If you put too much in the rear of the trailer, the coupler will be pulling up on the hitch point all the time. That is not a good thing. Try to balance the load so you've got a 5 to 10 pound hitch load at the coupler. Try to pack so the load will not all shift to the rear under acceleration and back to the front during breaking. ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK to be sure the coupler is LATCHED and LOCKED! The one of the worst things you can do is to overload a trailer for the motorcycle. Another worst case motorcycle cargo trailer scenario is to forget the trailer is behind the bike. This is easy to do with some small trailers as they handle so well and are small enough to be out of sight of the motorcycle

rear view mirrors. Well, I hope you all find some wisdom in this little piece. Enjoy your motorcycles, your trailers and....hope you two never separate while driving.

And never forget....the people who
