    The Conservatory hosts a bevy of events eachmonth in itswonderful recital hall.Our respectivefaculty and student concert series has been a hit since its inception over five years ago, and overthe past year, weve extended our stage to local favorites of various genres. MCWs recentJazz Series featured established artists including Gil Parris, K.J. Denhert, Neil Alexander,

    Trio Shalva, and Ted Rosenthal.Through hall rentals and special events, everyone from classical artists to indie rock bands to local comedianshave graced our stage. Below is a list of our confirmed events for the 2011-12 season.     Share Our SpaceMCW rents out its recital hall and space for everything from concerts to business meetings to musicvideo shoots. The Conservatorys wonderful recital hall, which seats up to 118 people, can be rentedfor concerts, performances, release parties, gala events, business meetings and presentations, andmore. Students may be able to receive highschool credit for their Conservatory study and com-munity service for their participation in the schoolscommunity concerts and other volunteer activities.The Honors Program classes and events take placeduring the school year, 32 weeks (16 weeks persemester).

    About Our ProgramFor 25 years, the Music Therapy Institute has beenthe largest provider of professional music therapyservices in the greater Westchester region,workingindividually and in small groups with over 2,000children and adults each year. The Institute providesservices onsite at the Music Conservatory ofWestchester aswell as throughout the county throughthe Institutes Outreach program.

    All of the music therapy faculty are Board Certified,hold masters or doctoral degrees in music therapyand are professional members of the AmericanMusic Therapy Association.

    Music therapy addresses the physical, emotional, social and cognitive well being ofchildren and adults with awide variety of special needs. Using the inherent qualities ofmusic, board certified therapists design individualized programs to provide opportunitiesfor social interaction, allow for emotional expression, increase attention, promotegrowth inmotor skills, increase communication skills and alleviate pain and stress.Music therapy canmake a profound difference in the lives of those who participate,encouraging healing, growth and change.

    Individual Music TherapyIndividualized programs are designed to engage thecreative aspects of each participant in an interactiveprocess as they play, sing andmove to improvisedand familiarmusic. Skilled therapists use piano, guitar,percussion and voice to facilitatemeaningful musicalexperiences. Sessions of 30 or 45minutes are availableMonday through Saturday as scheduled by theDirectorof Onsite Services.Fee: $1,280 (30-minute session) or $1,585 (45-minutesession) for 16-week semester

    Outreach ProgramThe Institutes outreach program provides groupand individual music therapy for children and adultsin special education programs, schools, hospitals,nursing homes, senior centers, community mentalhealth facilities, residential treatment facilities,rehabilitation centers, group homes and social serviceprograms. In addition, consultation and professionaldevelopment are provided to school district musiceducators working with students with special needs.The Institutes outreach director works closely witheach collaborating partner to create a custom-designed program.

The Conservatory reserves the right tocancel group classes due to insufficient enrollment, inwhich case full payment is refunded with no penalty.

    Cancellation and Make-UpLesson PolicyStudents who register for a full semester of 16 individuallessons are entitled to twomake-ups per semester for ab-sence due to illness or other unavoidable circumstances.Students who register after the sixth week of the semesterwill receive onemake-up lesson if registered for 6-10 lessons,and nomake-ups for fewer than 6 lessons. To qualify formakeup lessons, the Conservatory must be notified at(914) 761-3900 according to the following schedule: Forcancelled afternoon or evening lessons, notificationmustbemade by 9:30 am on the day of the lesson. For cancelledmorning lessons, notificationmust be made by 8:00 pmthe previous night.

    Failure to provide this notification will result in forfeitureof the make-up lesson.Missedmake-up lessons will not berescheduled.Make-up lessons areNOTprovided for absencesfrom group classes.

    Students also receive make-ups for lessons or classescancelled due to teacher absence and weather-relatedclosings. An announcement will be recorded on theConservatorys answering machine and reported on ourwebsite, blog and/or Facebook page. Some local radio andTV stations (WFAS, News 12) will broadcast announce-ments of closings.

    Lessons from fall semester 2011 must be used by the end ofspring semester 2012. Lessons from spring semester 2012must be used by August 31, 2012. Lessons not used by thesedates will be forfeited.

    Open registration all year long forindividual & semi-private lessonsYoumay register for individual or semi-private lessonsat any time. For registration after the semester begins, theguidelines will vary depending on the number of weeksremaining in the semester. You will receive specificinformation at the time of registration.

    Tuition PaymentTuition and fees are due 48 hours prior to the first day ofthe semester, or the first lesson or class for late registration.Youmay pay with a check, cash or charge (Visa,MasterCard,American Express, Discover). There is a $50 service chargefor returned checks. Students whose tuition is not paid infull, who have not set up a payment plan, or whose pay-ment plan is in arrears, will not be admitted to theirfirst/next lesson or class. Lessons lost to suspension forpayment will be forfeited.

    The Conservatory desires that families be able to managethe cost of instruction within their budgets.We offer apayment plan option to those families registering for aminimum total tuition balance of $500 ormore per semester.A completed payment plan application is required for eachsemester and a credit card which will be charged automati-cally by the Conservatory for each scheduled installment.Applications can be picked up at the Front Desk. There is aservice charge of $10 per installment. In the event thatcredit cards are declined when processed, an additional feeof $25 may be charged. Payment plan privileges may bewithdrawn at the discretion of MCW for failure to adhere tothe terms of the agreement.

    Scholarships and DiscountsScholarships are available for students ages 18 and under,based on documented financial need.     RefundsIndividual Instruction: The $50 registration fee is non-refundable. Students whowithdraw prior to the first weekof the semester receive a full tuition refund. Students whowithdraw prior to the sixth week of the semester receive arefund for the balance of lessons not taken,minus two-lesson penalty. Students whowithdraw later than the sixthweek of the semester receive no refund unless theymoveaway or there is a prolonged illness. In this case, the balanceof tuition is refunded,minus the two-lesson penalty.
