2010 Trinity Football Game Notes Game 13: The St. Xavier Game QUICK FACTS Tonight’s game marks Bob Beatty’s 50 th postseason game as head coach of the Shamrocks. After a stretch of 35 days between home games earlier this season (Sept. 17 to Oct. 22), Trinity is playing its first game away from home since Oct. 15 since it played its final two games of the regular season and the first two playoff rounds at home. Trinity has allowed 19 points in their two playoff games, surprisingly the second highest total of the Bob Beatty era. Even more surprising may be the fact that the 2002 team has the highest mark at 27 points. That team finished the year 15-0 and ranked fourth nationally. The 19 points allowed by the Shamrocks is the second best mark among teams remaining in the Class AAAAAA playoffs, only Scott County’s seven points allowed is better. The 103 points scored by the Shamrocks is the best mark in the Class AAAAAA playoffs. Male (94) and St. Xavier (90) follow in offensive output in the postseason through two games. Senior running back Derek Bishop needs 28 yards to reach 3,000 rushing yards for his career. He has played just 25 games in a Trinity uniform entering tonight’s game with St. Xavier. He also has eight kick returns for 307 yards with two touchdowns, a touchdown of 80 yards vs. Ballard and of 89 yards vs. Lexington Catholic.

During his freshman year at Trinity, Quick played in the state football finals, was part of a basketball team that was ranked number one in the state of Kentucky and set a program record with 24-straight wins, and won the 200-meter dash at the 2010 state track meet. On the basketball court, Quick saw action in 21 games, averaging 2.1 points per game as a freshman. Quick flirted with a triple-double in Trinity’s 66-46 win last year over Holy Cross on Jan. 6, 2010. In his first major action in a Trinity uniform, the highly regarded freshman notched 17 points, 8 rebounds and 7 steals, all team highs.

• Quick set a career high with 152 yards receiving in a 63-14 win over Seneca on Oct. 8, 2010. He also had a career best four touchdown catches among his nine catches. He became the first Trinity receiver with four touchdown catches since Nathan Dutton had four in a Nov. 2, 2007 win over Lafayette.

• Quick registered 150 yards receiving in a 48-0 win over rival St. Xavier on Oct. 1, 2010 at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. He had nine catches. • Listed as one of top 50 players in the state of Kentucky for 2010 in Lexington Herald-Leader’s preseason listing of top players in state

Steffey’s First Career Touchdown will Stand Out in Record Books Ryan Steffey had never caught a touchdown pass in his first 32 games as a member of the Trinity Football varsity squad during his sophomore, junior and senior years as a Trinity receiver. But when the senior found the end zone as time expired against Elder on Sept. 10, 2010, Steffey’s lore in Trinity’s annuals was set in stone. The alley screen catch by Steffey was the 21st catch of his career, but first for points. The two-yard reception brought his career total to just 215 total receiving yards on 21 catches at the time. Kopp Quietly Making Major Contributions Trinity’s second leading receiver, senior Hunter Kopp, has quietly put up big numbers for the Shamrocks in 2010. Kopp averages a team best 18.9 yards per catch.

• Kopp caught a career best three touchdowns in a 64-14 win over Seneca on Oct. 8, 2010. Each of his three catches in the game went for scores. He finished with 47 yards on the day.

Weyhing Has Knack for Finding Football on Defense Senior linebacker Brandon Weyhing has had a knack for finding the football in recent weeks. In the 48-0 win over St. Xavier on Oct. 1, 2010, Weyhing recovered a fumble forced by sophomore Ryan White and returned it 14 yards for Trinity’s first score of the game. Later in the contest, the intercepted a pass and returned it 16 yards. In the 63-14 win over Seneca on Oct. 8, 2010, Weyhing recovered a fumble that led to a touchdown on the ensuing possession and nearly had his second interception in as many weeks in the second quarter. White Making Impact All Over Field Sophomore Ryan White has made an impact in multiple ways for the Shamrocks this season. White has made plays in the return game and on defense this season that have had major impacts on multiple games for Trinity.

• White had a 64-yard punt return for touchdown in the season opener against Lawrence North on Aug. 27, 2010. • White posted two interceptions against rival St. Xavier on Oct. 1, 2010 in the 48-0 win and also made a tackle on a lateral pass that led to a Trinity

fumble recovery for touchdown to give the Shamrocks an early 7-0 lead. Hatcher Becoming Major Presence on Defensive Line Sophomore Jason Hatcher is becoming a major factor on the Trinity defensive line. Hatcher has been ranked as one of the top players nationally at his position in the class of 2013 and continues to attract double and triple teams. Hatcher has also shown his athletic ability in other sports, including basketball and powerlifiting. Hatcher was named the most valuable player of the prestigious Adidas Super 64 tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada while playing AAU basketball before his freshman season at Trinity. Hatcher was also the state champion in powerlifiting in the 220 pound weight class in 2010.

He became the first player during the Bob Beatty era to throw a touchdown pass and pick off an opposing team during his career. Frederick converted from quarterback to safety for his senior season and notched his first career pick in the fourth quarter of the win against Seneca, returning it 32 yards for the touchdown. Frederick was 23-of-36 for 234 yards and two touchdowns as a quarterback in 2009 for the Rocks.

• A week after recording his first touchdown, Frederick returned another interception for a touchdown against Eastern on Oct. 16, 2010. He returned his second interception of the year 45 yards for the score.

Trinity Coach Bob Beatty among Elite Coaches in Country

Page 8: 2010 Trinity Football Game Notes (vs. St. Xavier)

One of the nation’s elite high school coaches, Trinity head coach Bob Beatty has won seven state titles reached the state finals on nine occasions during his tenure with the Rocks. He has compiled a 46-3 mark in postseason play in his 10 years at Trinity. He has registered a 136-21 record in 11 seasons as the Shamrocks head coach. In his 14 seasons as a head coach, he is 161-28. In just his first season as head coach, Beatty rewrote the Trinity record books. His team scored 645 points in 2000, breaking the previous school mark of 522, set by the 1972 team. Quarterback Geoff Riddle flourished in his only season under Beatty’s leadership, throwing for 2,739 yards and 26 touchdowns. The Shamrocks spread the ball around as four receivers had four or more touchdown receptions and three players had 40 pass receptions or more. Beatty’s Shamrocks were even more impressive on the ground as the Rocks amassed 2,956 yards on the ground on their way to 52 touchdowns. Three players eclipsed the 500 yard mark on the ground and three players recorded 10 or more touchdowns, led by Vince Phillips with 18 scores. After a disappointing finish to his first season as Trinity coach, Beatty rebounded with the first of three consecutive state championships with Brian Brohm under center for the Shamrocks. Brohm completed his three-year career with 10,579 yards and 119 touchdowns under Beatty’s high-powered offensive attack. During the three-year run, the Shamrocks compiled a 39-5 record. Beatty led the Shamrocks to another state title game appearance in 2001, this time gaining his first state title at Trinity with a 45-19 win over Male. Alex Hennessey became the first Trinity receiver under Beatty to reach the 1,000-yard mark while DeQuese May ran for 1,202 yards and 19 touchdowns. The 2002 season saw Brohm pass for 3,777 yards. He threw for 47 touchdowns and had just one interception. The season ended with one of the greatest games in high school football history as the Shamrocks defeated Male 59-56 in the final state finals game played at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. In 2002, Beatty became the first coach from the city of Louisville to win the Courier-Journal’s Coach of the Year award since 1990, when former Trinity coach Dennis Lampley claimed the award. The Shamrocks capped the 2003 campaign, Brohm’s last game in a Trinity uniform, with a 17-14 win over rival St. Xavier in the Class AAAA finals. Billy Murray led the Shamrocks with 1,228 yards receiving while Chris Lawson had a team-high 677 yards rushing. In 2004, the Shamrocks registered a win over the Dayton Chaminade-Julienne (Ohio), the 21st ranked team in the nation, and their star running back and future Michigan State star Javon Ringer. It was the highlight of a 10-2 campaign that saw the Shamrocks feature a balanced offensive campaign, led by three receivers with over 500 yards and four receivers with six touchdown receptions or more. Eric Senn led the defensive attack, registering five interceptions Beatty’s offense again clicked with the addition of quarterback Nick Petrino for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Petrino threw for 6,282 yards and 71 touchdowns during his two-year career as a starter for the Rocks. His 71.8 percent completion percentage during his career still stands as a school record. Petrino led the Shamrocks to a 27-3 record during his two-year stint as a starter. In 2005, the Shamrocks saw Petrino throw 31 touchdowns and just three interceptions in Beatty’s system while Donald Barnett ran for 982 yards and 14 touchdowns. In 2006, Petrino threw 39 touchdowns and missed the 3,000-yard passing mark by just two yards. Sophomore Tim Phillips registered 1,200 yards rushing in just 12 games while posting 22 touchdowns, setting a new Beatty era record. The Shamrocks faced some of their most daunting challenges during the 2007 season, facing some of the nation’s elite teams. After starting the season just 3-2, including losses to eventual national champion St. Xavier (Ohio) 47-31 and state runner-up St. Xavier (Ky.) 24-15, the Shamrocks reeled off 10 straight wins to claim the first ever Class AAAAAA title at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium with a 34-28 win in overtime over rival St. Xavier. The 34 points by the Shamrocks were the most ever by the Shamrocks in the series. Quarterback Will Stein set a new record for touchdown passes in a season with 54 while throwing for 3,697 yards and completing 70.8 percent of his passes. Beatty recorded his 100th win as Trinity’s head coach in a Nov. 23, 2007 win over Henry Clay. It also marked his 125th career win. Beatty’s 2007 team featured a school record seven selections to the first-, second- and third-team Courier-Journal All-State teams. Senior quarterback Cameron Smyth finished the 2008 season with a 74.8 percent completion rate among his 294 pass attempts. He completed 220 passes on the year. His 74.8 percent completion percentage is second in state history for a single season behind Tim Couch’s mark of 75.1 during the 1994 season. Smyth led the Shamrocks to their fourth straight state championship behind his superb passing talents paired with the five shutouts the Trinity defense was able to record. Beatty made his greatest strides from game one to game 15 in the 2009 season as just 11 of the 22 players that began the season in the starting lineup finished the season starting in the state finals. His 2009 team held opponents to just 7.7 points in their 10 wins on the season. Beatty and the Shamrocks made a statement in the rivalry series between Trinity and St. Xavier on Oct. 1, 2010 by posting a 48-0 win, the largest margin of victory and most points scored by the Shamrocks in series history. Postseason Success Is Building Process for Beatty Trinity head coach Bob Beatty frequently discusses the need to play the season in thirds. The first third of the season usually features a strong in-state game and games against out-of-state foes, the second third featuring district games and the final third being postseason games. Beatty’s teams are known for getting better throughout each third of the season as they prepare for championship runs.

Decade of Dominance No team came close to matching the success of the Trinity Shamrocks during the decade that spanned from 2000-2009.

• Trinity won seven of the 10 state championship games contested during the decade and appeared in nine of the 10 state championship games contested in the highest class in the state of Kentucky.

• The Shamrocks have won two of the three Class AAAAAA title games that have been played. • Trinity senior quarterback Brian Brohm was named the USA Today National Offensive Player of the Year and Kentucky’s Mr. Football in 2003. He

was also featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 2002. • Trinity was ranked in the final USA Today Super 25 Poll on three occasions during the decade, finishing fourth in 2002, 23rd in 2007 and 13th in

2008. No other team in state history has been ranked that many times in a single decade in state history and only one other school has been ranked more times in their program’s history than the Rocks were in this decade alone. The three appearances in the poll added to their state record six USA Today Super 25 finishes.

• Trinity’s 126-20 record was the best in the state of Kentucky during the 10-year period. Boyle County followed with a 121-20 mark and St. Xavier registered a 119-18 mark.

• The Shamrocks compiled a 44-3 record in the playoffs, including win streaks of 24 and 16 games. • Before the 2009 season even started, Trinity had already registered its most wins in a single decade in school history. The 126 wins during the

2000’s bested the 115 wins compiled during the 1980’s. • The 2000s marked the first time in program history that the Shamrocks have won at least 10 games in every season of the decade. The best mark

previously was seven during the 1980s and 1990s.

Page 10: 2010 Trinity Football Game Notes (vs. St. Xavier)

39: The Magic Number Most area coaches wouldn’t argue that it is hard to outscore the Shamrocks. In fact, the Shamrocks have never lost a game when scoring 39 points or more. The Shamrocks have scored 20 points or more just 14 times and come out on the losing end of a game. Only three times have the Shamrocks surpassed the 30 point plateau and come away with a loss. The Shamrocks are 169-0 in school history when scoring 39 points or more, including a 96-0 mark in the Bob Beatty era.

• The Sept. 12, 2008 win over Butler marked the 75th time during the Bob Beatty era that the Shamrocks had scored 39 points or more in a game. • The Nov. 27, 2009 win over Scott County marked the 160th time in program history that the Shamrocks had recorded 39 points or more in a single

game. • The Oct. 1, 2010 win over rival St. Xavier marked the first time the Shamrocks had reached the 39-point mark against the Tigers. It was the 90th

time the Shamrocks had reached the mark during Beatty’s tenure but first against the Tigers. District Dominance The Shamrocks have won 47 straight games in district play and are 66-1 under Beatty in district games. Trinity’s last loss in district play came on Sept. 19, 2003, a 34-33 loss at Seneca.

• Trinity is 42-5 all-time against Ballard, having won 22 straight in the series. Beatty is 16-0 against Ballard. • Trinity is 34-2 all-time against Eastern including a 12-0 mark under Beatty. Trinity has won 18 straight games in the series dating to 1994. The

teams have met annually since 1987. The largest win in the series for the Shamrocks came on Oct. 17, 2001 in a 57-0 win. • Trinity is 13-2 all-time against Seneca, including a 9-1 mark under Beatty. The Oct. 9, 2010 win tied for the second largest in series history at 49

points. The record is 52 set on Oct. 19, 2007 in a 55-3 win. • After Ballard was eliminated from the playoffs in 2009 by Male on Nov. 13, 2009, it ended the chance for Trinity to face a district opponent during

the 2009 postseason. It marked the first time since 2004 that Trinity did not face a team from their own district in the postseason. It was the first time since 2002 that Trinity advanced to the third round and not played a district foe among those three games.

Trinity Sets New District Scoring Mark Trinity’s 56.0 point per game average during district play set a new record for average points in regular season district play in school history, besting the 54.0 point mark from 2000. If the average holds, it would also break the mark for average points in all district games played in a single season, also held by the 2000 team at 54.0 point per contest. Trinity has averaged over 50.0 points during the regular season in district play in three of the last four seasons and five times overall in school history. Reaching the 60s Trinity has scored 60 points or more in a game 17 times in school history, including a 70-point performance during the 2005 season. The Shamrocks are 17-0 when reaching the 60-point plateau. The Shamrocks have scored 70 points or more three times in school history, all under Bob Beatty. Shamrocks and Shutouts

• Trinity has 197 shutouts to its credit in its history, which includes three ties. Trinity has 29 games in its history where the Shamrocks shut out their opponent during the postseason.

• During the Bob Beatty era, the Shamrocks have recorded 36 shutouts. • Trinity has recorded a shutout in 45 straight seasons and in 53-of-56 seasons all-time. • Trinity has been shut out 45 times in its history.

Trinity and Overtime Games Trinity’s 34-28 victory over St. Xavier in the 2007 Class AAAAAA Championship Game marked the 17th overtime game in school history. The win improved the Shamrocks’ record in overtime games to 11-6 and 8-0 in the playoffs. The Shamrocks have won four of their last five games that have ended in overtime. Trinity’s first overtime game came in 1978 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center when the Shamrocks defeated Fern Creek 13-10 in the county quarterfinals.

2010 Trinity Football Game Notes Game Summaries and Postgame Notes

Game 0: Trinity 49, Highlands 42 [Scrimmage]

August 13, 2010 at Ft. Thomas Highlands High School (Ft. Thomas, Kentucky) Game Summary: FT. THOMAS, Ky. – Trinity scored on its first five possessions and overcame some big plays by Highlands in a 49-42 win against the Bluebirds in the Shamrocks’ only scrimmage of the 2010 season. In his debut at quarterback for the Shamrocks, sophomore Travis Wright led the Shamrocks to scores on its first five possessions. Wright is poised to become the first sophomore to open the season at quarterback for the Shamrocks since 2001 when Brian Brohm went under center for the Shamrocks.

Sophomore wide receiver James Quick picked up where he left off last season, scoring a first quarter touchdown and registering multiple catches in the scrimmage.

The Shamrocks threatened to pull away on multiple occasions, but the Bluebirds were able to pick on a young defensive secondary of the Shamrocks. It was the first live action for a sophomore heavy group with new schemes introduced by a coaching staff that includes three individuals who are in their first or second year with the team. Postgame Notes:

• Trinity scored on its first five possessions of the game. • If the game had counted in the school records, it would have gone down as the third highest scoring game in program history behind the 2002

game between Trinity and Male (115) and the 2000 game between Trinity and Jeffersontown (93). Tonight’s game saw a combined 91 points. • Trinity scored 21 points in the first quarter. The Shamrocks had scored 21 points in a single quarter just twice in 2009, both coming against

Southern in the opening round of the playoffs. • Trinity scored 49 points in the game. In comparison, the team scored 42 points or more just three times last season and scored 35 points or more

just five times in 2009.

Game Summary: INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana. – Trinity led 35-9 in the first half and went on to post a 56-23 win over Lawrence North (Indiana) in the 2010 season opener for the Shamrocks. Overall, the Shamrocks have won three of their last four season openers.

• Trinity posted a touchdown on its opening drive of the game. It did that just five times in 2009. • Trinity posted the most points ever in an opening game with 56. The previous record was 49 points, scored in the 1979 and 1989 openers. • The 56-point performance was Trinity’s best since Nov. 28, 2008 when the Shamrocks posted a 63-15 win over Eastern in the quarterfinals of the

2008 playoffs. • The Shamrocks posted 21 points in the first quarter of the season opener. The team reached the 21 point mark in any single quarter just twice

during the 2009 season, the first and second quarters against Southern in the 2009 playoff opener. • Senior running back Derek Bishop recorded the 18th, 19th and 20th rushing touchdowns of his career in the game. Bishop also recorded his 250th

career carry in the first quarter. He now has compiled 1,641 career rushing yards on 262 carries. • Sophomore wide receiver James Quick posted a career high 113 yards receiving, surpassing the 108 yards he posted last year against Eastern.

His nine catches were also a career best, surpassing the five catches he had last year against Eastern. Quick also posted his sixth career touchdown in the first quarter.

o Quick finished the night with 140 all-purpose yards. • The Shamrocks had two returns for touchdown in the game. It was the first time since Nov. 28, 2008 that a Trinity player returned a kick of any type

for a touchdown. In that game, senior Tim Phillips returned a kickoff for a touchdown against Eastern in a 63-15 win. o Sophomore Ryan White posted a 64-yard punt return for touchdown in the first quarter. He finished the night with three punt returns for

quarterback in his career starting debut. o Wright completed .850 of his passes in his starting debut, the best for a Beatty quarterback. The previous best was Stein’s .788 mark in

2007. • Sophomore quarterback Cody Wolfe also made his debut. He did not attempt a pass, but had a 35-yard carry in the fourth quarter. • The Shamrocks forced two turnovers in the game and are +2 on the season through one game.

Game 3: Trinity 22, Elder 20

September 10, 2010 at Marshall Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky Game Summary: LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Trinity senior Ryan Steffey caught a two-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Travis Wright with no time remaining to give Trinity a 22-20 win over Elder (Ohio) at Trinity’s Marshall Stadium. “It’s a dream,” said Steffey. “It’s unbelievable. I can’t stop smiling.” Steffey had never caught a touchdown pass in his first 32 games as a member of the Trinity Football varsity squad during his sophomore, junior and senior years as a Trinity receiver. But when the senior found the end zone as time expired against Elder, Steffey’s lore in Trinity’s annuals was set in stone. Game Summary: BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Trinity senior running back Derek Bishop posted his fourth straight 100-yard rushing performance, including the eventual game-winning touchdown with 5:05 left in the third quarter, as Trinity posted a 14-12 win over Bowling Green. Bishop, playing in just his 18th career game, surpassed the 2,000 career rushing yard mark in the first quarter. Bishop recorded his 11th 100-yard game of his career and finished with a season best 154 yards on 26 carries and one touchdown. The Purples capitalized on an early Trinity turnover with a 45-yard field goal in the first quarter and added another long field goal of 49 yards in the first half. The two scoring drives saw the Purples compile a combined 25 yards on nine plays. They finished the first half with just 28 yards and didn’t complete a pass on six attempts. After falling behind 6-0, Trinity junior Jackson Noe replaced sophomore Travis Wright at quarterback and Noe engineered a scoring drive that ended with Noe getting his first career rushing touchdown. Noe was making his first appearance at quarterback for the Shamrocks this season after moving to the position earlier this week in practice after reserve quarterback Cody Wolfe was injured last week in a junior varsity contest. Wright, the Shamrocks’ starter in their first four games, had missed one practice this week due to illness and was still suffering from the symptoms of the illness tonight despite starting the game under center for the Shamrocks. Bowling Green cut the Trinity lead to 14-12 with a touchdown with 11:00 remaining in the game on a 21-yard touchdown run by Green, but the quarterback keeper for a two-point conversion attempt was stopped short of the end zone. Trinity’s defense held Bowling Green to 174 yards of total offense, including just 10 through the air. The Shamrocks compiled 330 yards on 60 plays but struggled to find the end zone as they piled up 122 penalty yards on 10 whistles. Postgame Notes:

• Trinity head coach Bob Beatty coached his 150th game at Trinity. He is 129-21 in his time with the Shamrocks. • Junior Jackson Noe had his first career rushing touchdown in the second quarter. He previously had a touchdown pass to his credit in last year’s

game with St. Xavier (Ohio). • Noe made his third career appearance at quarterback for the Shamrocks and first in 2010. • Senior Derek Bishop surpassed the 2,000-yard mark for his career in the first quarter. It was just his 18th game in a Trinity uniform. • Bishop reached the 100-yard mark for the fourth straight game, the best streak of his career. He previously had two separate streaks of three

straight games with over 100 yards.

Game 6: Trinity 48, St. Xavier 0 Oct. 1, 2010 at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky (Attendance: 34,326)

Game Summary: LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In front of 34,326 fans at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Trinity posted a 48-0 win over archrival St. Xavier in tying the record for the most lopsided game in series history. In the 70th meeting between the teams, Trinity’s 48-0 win equaled the scoring record and margin of victory record set in the first meeting between the teams in 1956 when Trinity was playing in its first ever season in program history. The Trinity defense dominated the Tigers, allowing just 159 total yards. The Tigers were able to convert on just one of 12 third down attempts. Sophomore Travis Wright completed 16-of-20 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns while sophomore James Quick caught a career high nine passes for 150 yards and a touchdown. Senior running back Derek Bishop ran for 127 yards on 17 carries in the win.

Postgame Notes:

• This was the 70th all-time meeting between Trinity and St. Xavier. • St. Xavier still leads the all-time series 36-32-2. The regular season series stands at 29-24-2 in favor of St. Xavier. • Trinity has won nine of the last 16 meetings between the teams, including four postseason games. • Trinity shut out the Tigers for the third time in the last 14 meetings between the teams. • Trinity’s 48-0 win over rival St. Xavier is tied for the worst loss in St. Xavier history. The Tigers also suffered a 48-0 setback to Elizabethtown on

Nov. 17, 1917. • The win marked the first time the Shamrocks had reached the 39-point mark against the Tigers. It was the 90th time the Shamrocks had reached

the mark during Bob Beatty’s tenure but first against the Tigers. Trinity has never lost a game when scoring 39 points or more. • St. Xavier head coach Mike Glaser, who is 18-22 against the Shamrocks, including a 2-3 mark against the Shamrocks in the state finals, coached

his 40th game against Trinity, the most among any opposing coach in Trinity history. In fact, only Ballard and DeSales have played more games against Trinity as teams, not even individual coaches.

• Trinity’s 48 points set a new scoring record for the Shamrocks in the series, besting the previous high of 34 set in the Dec. 8, 2007 overtime win for the Shamrocks in the state finals. It also tied the scoring mark for the series that St. Xavier set on two previous occasions.

• Trinity’s 48 point win set a new record for margin of victory for the Shamrocks in the series. Trinity’s biggest win in the series previously was 21 points, set on three occasions.

• Bob Beatty, who holds a 9-7 record against St. Xavier, tied Dennis Lampley for most wins by a Trinity coach against the Tigers in program history in the Shamrock’s 48-0 win over the Tigers on Oct. 1, 2010. Lampley notched a 9-6 mark against the Tigers in his career at Trinity. Beatty’s 9-7 mark includes a 3-1 record against the Tigers in the state finals. Roger Gruneisen is the only other Trinity coach to record five or more wins against the Tigers. He held a 5-3 record against St. Xavier in his time at Trinity. His .625 winning percentage is the best in program history.

Page 15: 2010 Trinity Football Game Notes (vs. St. Xavier)

• Trinity has now won five of the last seven games it has played at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. The Shamrocks are now 13-8 all-time in the facility since it opened in 1998.

• Trinity posted its fourth all-time shutout at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in 21 games. It was the third against the Tigers at the facility. • Trinity posted its first shutout since a 55-0 win over Southern on Nov. 6, 2009. • Trinity’s 48 points tied its best mark ever in Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. Trinity also posted a 48-0 win over Simon Kenton in the 2008 state

finals.

Game 7: Trinity 63, Seneca 14 Oct. 8, 2010 at Seneca High School in Louisville, Kentucky

Game Summary: LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore quarterback Travis Wright tied the school record for touchdown passes in a game with seven as Trinity posted a 63-14 win over district opponent Seneca. Wright tied the mark former Shamrock Brian Brohm set in December of 2002 when Trinity beat Male 59-56 in what has been called one of the greatest high school football games ever played. Wright finished 13-of-17 for 198 yards. Wright outshined his Seneca counterpart, Louisville commit DeMarcus Smith. Smith finished the game 13-of-25 for 177 yards and two touchdowns while throwing two interceptions and losing one fumble. Smith left the game late in the first half after being sacked by Jason Hatcher where he fumbled. Smith returned for one series in the second half before leaving the game for good. The Shamrocks opened the game by scoring on four straight possessions to open a 28-0 lead before Seneca scored back-to-back touchdowns. The Shamrocks answered with two scores in the final two minutes of the first half on their way to a 42-14 halftime lead. Sophomore receiver James Quick set a new career high with 152 yards receiving, breaking the mark he had last week when he posted 150 yards. Sophomore running back Dalyn Dawkins led the Shamrocks on the ground with 99 yards on 15 carries and a score. Postgame Notes:

• A week after setting a new mark for largest margin of victory by the Rocks in their series with rival St. Xavier, Trinity’s 49-point win against Seneca was the second best mark in that series. The record is 52 set on Oct. 19, 2007 in a 55-3 win.

• Trinity is now 13-2 all-time against Seneca, including a 9-1 mark under Beatty. • James Quick and Hunter Kopp became the first Trinity duo to each catch at least three touchdowns in a single game since Daniel Mudd and

TaShawn McBroom each had three in the Dec. 7, 2002 win over Male in the 2002 state finals. • Wright became the sixth Beatty quarterback at Trinity to throw for 15 touchdowns or more through seven games. • Wright’s seven touchdown passes tied the school mark for a single game. Wright finished 13-of-17 for 198 yards. Wright had TD passes of (in

chronological order) 8, 11, 17, 29, 58, 19 and 28 yards. • Wright also set a new school record for TD passes in a half with six in becoming the 19th player in state history to achieve the feat. • Quick set a career high with 152 yard receiving. His four touchdowns were also a career best. It was the second straight week he set a new mark

for receiving yards. He had 150 yards the previous week against rival St. Xavier. • Quick became the first Trinity receiver with four touchdown catches since Nathan Dutton had four in a Nov. 2, 2007 win over Lafayette. • Brandon Weyhing recorded a fumble recovery for the second consecutive week.

Game 8: Trinity 49, Eastern 0

Oct. 15, 2010 at Eastern High School in Louisville, Kentucky Game Summary: LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the first time since the 2006 season, Trinity had two players reach the 100-yard rushing mark in the same game as Trinity posted a 49-0 win over Eastern to set up a district championship showdown with Ballard next week. Senior running back Derek Bishop ran for 201 yards on 23 carries with three touchdowns while Dalyn Dawkins had 115 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns in the win. The last time that feat was achieved was Nov. 23, 2006 in a 56-35 win over Henry Clay at Trinity’s Marshall Stadium. In that game, quarterback Nick Petrino had 164 yards rushing on 18 carries. He threw for three touchdowns and ran for three scores in the win. Running back Tim Phillips had 117 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns in the game. Postgame Notes:

• Trinity had two players rush for over 100 yards for the first time since Nov. 23, 2006. • Trinity held Eastern to just 1-of-11 on third down conversions. • Trinity posted its second shutout of the season. • Trinity was 5-of-5 inside the red zone. • Trinity limited Eastern to 152 yards while the Shamrocks compiled 408 yards. • Trinity played its fourth consecutive game away from home. They are 4-0 during the stretch. • Trinity’s 319 rushing yards were its most since posting 362 against Scott County on Nov. 27, 2009.

Game 9: Trinity 56, Ballard 21 October 22, 2010 at Marshall Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky

Game Summary: LOUISVILLE, Ky. – All three facets of the game, offense, defense and special teams, seemed to be working as all three scored in Trinity’s 56-21 victory over Ballard to claim the Class AAAAAA, District 5 Championship. Trinity has won all four district crowns since the six-class system was instituted in 2007. Sophomore receiver James Quick’s 80-yard kick return for touchdown after Ballard narrowed the score to 14-7 gave Trinity a needed boost as the Shamrocks were able to pull away. Postgame Notes:

Page 16: 2010 Trinity Football Game Notes (vs. St. Xavier)

• The 77 combined points tied the series record for most combined points between the teams. It was the third occasion the teams had posted 77 points.

• Trinity had a defensive score for their fourth straight week and an interception returned for touchdown for the third straight week after Adam Reynolds returned an interception for touchdown against Ballard.

• After catching just three passes against Trinity last year, Ballard receiver DeVante Paker had eight catches for 203 yards and a touchdown. His longest reception was 46 yards.

• Sophomore James Quick has his first kick return for touchdown in the second quarter. It was the second kick return for touchdown this season by Trinity and first since the opening game against Lawrence North when Dalyn Dawkins had a 96-yard return.

• Trinity’s 21 points in the fourth quarter against Ballard tied a Beatty era record for points in the fourth quarter. It was the first time the team reached the mark since 2004 and just the sixth time in the Beatty era.
