For the first time this season, SU (3-1) will play in the city of Seattle at the University of Washington-hosted tournament. head coach julie woodward15th season/seattle university ‘93 The dean of coaches at Seattle University, Julie Woodward has earned the respect of her peers with her style of coaching. During her 14 coaching seasons, she boasts 13 winning seasons, establishing her as the winningest coach in SU women’s soccer history with a 194-72-25 overall record and a .709 win-ning percentage. Seattle University’s former two-time NAIA All-American soccer player came home to her

alma mater as the head coach of the Redhawks women’s soc-cer program over a decade ago. She has coached the Redhawks to three NCAA Division II Tournament appearances (2004, 2006 and 2007). A 2004 Far West Coach of the Year, she boasts three NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division II honorees, 18 Far West Region selections, three GNAC Player’s of the Year, eight GNAC all-con-ference team honorees and 27 players who have earned NAIA All-America accolades. Her team’s have also boasted great academic success in her tenure, including a 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year, five CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans and 20 CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine All-District selections.

The Woodward Tally: Head coach Julie Woodward currently boasts 197 career victories at Seattle University. She is 197-73-25 all-time and is the winningest coach in SU women’s soccer history.

Back-to-Back: At Idaho on Aug. 26, SU tal-lied their second consecutive 1-0 shutout victory.

Daniels Scores!: Freshman Megan Daniels has been a spark plug in the Redhawk lineup, whether it is coming in off the bench or breaking into the starting 11. She propelled SU to their 1-0 shutout win at Idaho on Aug. 26, behind her first half game-winner.

Scoring First: When scoring first the Red-hawks are 3-0 on the year.

The Newbies: The freshmen class has made an immediate impact, with both Megan Daniels and Stephanie Verdoia scoring their first career goals already. In addition, Taylor Ritzman has come in off the bench in all four games this season and contributed in all three SU vic-tories thus far.

The Captains: Senior goalkeeper Madison Goverde and senior defender Renee Vandermause will cap-tain the 2011 Redhawk squad.

Makin’ the Save: Senior goalkeeper Madison Goverde brought her career save total to 227, behind nine combined saves at UI and WSU.

Final Year of Independence: 2011 will mark SU’s final sea-son playing as an NCAA DI In-dependent. On July 1, 2012 Seattle U will officially join the Western Athletic Conference as full members.

Scouting No. 8 Portland: For the first time this sea-son the Redhawks will face a ranked opponent in the No. 8 Portland Pilots. UP (2-1) trav-els to Seattle following a 1-0 loss at San Diego State on Aug. 28. They opened the year with a 2-1 victory at home over

then-No. 4 Florida and edged past Washington State, 1-0.Leading the Pilot offense is Danielle Foxhoven, who’s scored a pair of goals in three games played. Defensively, Hailee DeYoung has played all 270 minutes in goal and sports a 0.67 goals against average, seven saves and a shutout.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced Portland:

Portland leads the all-time se-ries with Seattle U 7-2-1. The teams last met in 1989, with the then-NAIA Redhawks fall-ing 9-0.

Scouting Washington:After opening the season in the national polls, the University of Washington returns home riding a 0-2-1 record. The then-No. 23 Huskies dropped both their games in the Mid-west, falling 2-1 to Wisconsin on Aug. 26, and 2-0 at Iowa State on Aug. 28.

UW has seen minutes from a pair of goalkeepers, with Jorde Lafontaine-Kus starting and playing in their first two games. She’s tallied 17 saves and a 1.71 goals against av-erage, behind a 0-1-1 record. Kari Davidson holds a 2.00 goals against average and four saves in her lone start. Offen-sively, Lindsay Elston leads the team with a pair of goals in three starts.
