UMaine Cooperative Extension

Extension educator Donna Coffin demonstrated ways to keep cool. Home hor-culture coordinator Hannah Todd gave a talk on compos ng.

Coffin showed an O2COOL® ba ery-operated, mis ng fan which cools the air by twenty degrees more than a regular fan and retails for less than ten dollars.

The Orbit Cobra Mistand connects to a hose and emits a very fine mist of water that will keep you cool outside, according to Coffin. “It doesn't use much water because the holes are so small.”

She also shared a neckband contain-ing polymer crystals that hold four hun-dred mes their weight in water. When

worn on the neck where there are a lot of blood vessels, it helps keep the body cool

(and the neckband can be frozen). Judy Morrison at the extension service has been working with local American Legions and VFWs to make the neckbands for troops over-seas and for sale in the office in Dover-Foxcro .
