    ARRESTS:

    During the first half of 2010, there were 351 arrests, up 7% from the 327 made during the same

    period in 2009. In 2010, 45% of the people arrested were white, 27% were black, 20% wereHispanic, 5% were Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% were Middle Eastern/East Indian and none were

    Native American/Alaskan Native. 78% of the arrestees were male and 22% were female. 21 of

    the arrestees were juveniles.

    During the first six months of the year, the BPD also placed 29 people into protective custody

    (for being under the influence of alcohol). 83% of these PCs were white, none were black, 10%were Hispanic, none were Asian/Pacific Islander, 7% were Middle Eastern/East Indian and none

    were Native American/ Alaskan Native. Additionally, so far this year, there were 7 sex

    offenders registered/registered in our system. All seven were men and 100% were white.

    FIELD INTERVIEWS:

    During the first half of 2010, there were a total of 1,145 field interviews conducted, up 146%

    from the 465 field interviews during the same period in 2009. Of these people who were stoppedand questioned for suspicious or nuisance activity, town-by law violations and/or interviewed as

    part of an investigation, 57% were white, 16% were black, 13% were Hispanic, 2% were

    Asian/Pacific Islander, 4% were Middle Eastern/East Indian and none were NativeAmerican/Alaskan Native. 7% were not identified by race. 74% of the people FId were maleand 26% were female.

    conducted. Of these people, 53% were white, 23% were

    black, 13% were Hispanic, 3% were Asian/Pacific Islander,5% were Middle Eastern/East Indian and none were Native

    American/Alaskan Native. 3% were not identified by race.

    MOVING VIOLATIONS:

    The following totals represent the number of persons stopped and issued a written moving

    citation during the first six months of 2010. There were 10,666 moving violations issued, up46% from the 7,290 that were issued during the same period in 2009. Of the motorists issued

    citations, 72% were white, 12% were black, 7% were Asian/Pacific Islander, 6% were Hispanic,

    3% were Middle Eastern/East Indian and none were Native American/Alaskan Native. Of thesecitations, 59% were issued to male motorists and 41% were issued to female motorists. Duringthese six months, there were 0 non-inventory motor vehicle searches conducted.

    These figures nearly mirror the totals for last year with moving violations issued to motorist who

    were 71% white, 14% black, 7% Asian/Pacific Islander, 6% Hispanic, 2% Middle Eastern/EastIndian and less than 1% Native American/Native Alaskan.

    CITIZEN COMPLAINTS:

    During the first six months of 2010, there were 13 citizen complaints filed with the BPDs Officeof Professional Responsibility, down 7% from the 14 filed during the same period last year.

    These 13 complaints were against 12 officers and four complaints were logged against the BPD.

    Of the complaints, 25% were against white male officers (4), 25% against the Brookline Police

    Department (4), 19% against black male officers (3), 13% against Asian male officers (2), 13%against Hispanic male officers (2), and 6% against a black female officer (1). Of the 13

    complainants, 7 were white females, 4 were white males, 1 was a Hispanic female and 1 was a

    black male. Two of the 13 complaints were appealed to the Board of Selectmen who upheld theDepartments finding of the complaint being unfounded.
