dear friends,
Welcome, and thanks so much for being a part of our 15th anniversary Charleston stage dinner and gala. Tonight’s fundraiser, our largest of the year, is critical to Charleston stage’s ongoing operations as we return home to the stunningly restored historic dock street Theatre for 10 productions and over 100 performances.
While there seems to be a small glimmer in the recovering economy, your support is still very much needed to insure we have the critical funds we need to give this great city the great theatre it deserves—and to provide over 15,000 lowcountry youth with enriching theatrical training and performance opportunities.
The good news for Charleston stage is that ticket sales remain strong, audiences remain enthusiastic—they were cheering and dancing in the aisles at Hairspray— and our education programs have record enrollment.
The difficult cuts we have put in place over the past few seasons kept us viable but, like most non-profits, we must still rely on the generosity of people like you for 53% of our operating costs. With that in mind, we hope you will be especially generous tonight.
your support over the past 33 years has made Charleston stage one of the city’s premier arts institutions. your support is needed now, more than ever, to ensure this first season back at the historic dock street Theatre is our best yet.
and so, as we celebrate tonight, the beginning of our 2010-11 season and the return to the historic dock street Theatre please join me in lifting a glass to the future and to all the great shows and great education programs still to come. Thank you.
Julian Wilesfounder and producing artistic director
