Three siblings saw several unidentifiable orange orbs moving over the bay of Green Bay just before

midnight Sunday.

Their vacation home is about 10 miles north of Sturgeon Bay along Bayshore Drive, and the three

Barbara Platt Lauris, Dorcas Platt Wagenknecht and Rob Platt were sitting outside talking because it

was too warm to sleep.

Around 11:45 p.m. Lauris said she looked upward through a break in the trees and saw a bright orange

"orb" moving south to north along the horizon line. She pointed it out to her sister and brother.

They said they were sitting on the home's back patio with Wagenknecht and Platt facing away from the

water when the first orb appeared. They all hurried to the edge of the property (about 100 feet) to get a

better look.

By then the first one had disappeared and a second came into sight, following the path of the first, and after

that came another one. Each one stayed in view for about 50 seconds, they agreed. The first three traveled

in a straight line.

The orbs moved above the waterline, Wagenknecht said, about 45 degrees up from the horizon.

The siblings watched the objects until they disappeared into cloud cover. A fourth and final orb appeared,

and instead of following the same path of the first three, it veered off and headed in the same direction of

the others as if trying to catch up with the first three orbs, Lauris said.

It was "clearly an object (moving) under its own volition," Lauris said. The orbs also appeared to have their

own light source.

No one saw any blinking or strobe lights, jet stream or heard any sounds with any of the objects.

"We weren't scared. It was awesome," Lauris said. All three said that they had not been drinking that night,

and Lauris said she wasn't offended by the question "I would ask, too."

They are convinced they saw something solid and real.

"It couldn't even come close" to weather phenomena, it was an object, Lauris said. They also ruled out the

possibility they were seeing a light from a nearby lighthouse, lightning, airplanes, flares or fireworks.

John Beck of the Door Peninsula Astronomical Society agreed with that assessment, when he heard a

description of what the orb looked like and about where it was seen traveling.

"The only astronomical objects that you do see below cloud level would be meteors," Beck said. "From the

description, it doesn't" sound like they were seeing meteors, he said.

Calls to Cherryland Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration and local Civil Air Patrol all came back with

similar answers: Nothing unusual about the Sunday night skies has been reported.

Cherryland Airport Director Keith Kasbohm said occasionally the airport does hear from people who say

they saw something flying around.

Platt would like an explanation for what they saw. "I know what it wasn't," he said.
