SPIRALING AND TEXTURING WITH COLORING ENHANCEMENTS y Friday: 4:30 pm

The embellishing of turned wood with various decorative patterns and unique coloring has become mainstream in today’s woodturning projects. Bradley will demonstrate how to create richly embellished and vividly colored works in this new seminar. Numerous techniques will be covered featuring easy to use spiraling and texturing tools. Bradley will begin this seminar discussing wood selection and preparation, and explain how design considerations influence the project. He will also utilize spiraling and texturing tools in a variety of sizes and cutter profiles, allowing for a multitude of designs and patterns. Bradley will complete this creative seminar explaining and demonstrating how various dyes, pastes/creams, fillers, resins, and coloring additives can embellish your project.

GROWTH OF THE WOODTURNING COMMUNITY y Saturday: 9:00 am

Woodturning as a craft hobby and artform is currently experiencing an amazing growth in communities around the world. Bradley McCalister is passionate in his quest to provide and foster educational opportunities in these emerging woodturning communities. This informative seminar, “Growth of The Woodturning Community”, will enlighten all levels of woodturners with exciting and interesting ideas. Attendees will learn about the many benefits of joining and participating in online educational opportunities, their local woodturning club, and attending regional and national educational events. With the advent of modern technologies, the ability to learn woodturning skills through a live remote classroom is now a reality. Bradley will demonstrate a live remote classroom from The Studios of Bradley R.M. Educational Community as an example of this new educational format. Bradley will end the seminar with some traditional, hands-on woodturning, demonstrating techniques and ideas submitted by the audience. Let the chips fall, or fly, where they may!

TURNING WET AND DRY WOOD (AN EASY WOODTM SPONSORED SEMINAR)

y Saturday: 11:30 am In this seminar, learn to turn a freshly cut, wet or a properly dried wood blank. Bradley will demonstrate how to turn wood projects quickly and efficiently in many shapes and sizes. The various safe mounting techniques for your turning project will be explained and demonstrated in detail. Bradley will take you through the initial steps to turn and true the wood in preparation for the desired project. Next, he will demonstrate turning it to its final shape, size and wall thickness depending on the intended use. If you’re interested in getting a solid foundation to start your woodturning hobby, this is the seminar you do not want to miss. In this exciting seminar, Bradley will demonstrate turning large bowls or platters up to 30 inches in diameter. Large diameter turning blanks can be difficult to find. When one comes your way, you need to know the proper and safe techniques to make the most of your large piece project. ESSENTIAL BOWL TURNING y Saturday: 4:00 pm

This seminar is a perfect follow-up to Turning Wet and Dry Wood previously presented at 11:30. Do you want to learn the techniques necessary to turn wonderful wooden bowls? Then this is a seminar you will want to attend! Bradley McCalister is a master of the turned bowl. Join him and learn the proper steps to create beautiful bowls in an array of shapes and sizes, safely and efficiently. Bradley’s detailed demonstration will explain the fundamental methods for successfully turning a perfect bowl. Be certain to follow this seminar up with Bradley’s “Finishes for Woodturning” seminar on Sunday at 1:30.

ADVANCED ARTISTIC TECHNIQUES: BASKET WEAVE SURFACE y Sunday: 10:30 am

The application of a basket weave surface to wood turnings has become a very popular art form in modern woodturning. The process begins by turning the desired shape such as a bowl, platter, or a hollowed form. Next, you will learn to create predetermined designs on software programs and graphing templates. Bradley will then demonstrate the required techniques to bead and burn the surface, transferring your design onto the workpiece with beautiful effect. Bradley will conclude the seminar by demonstrating the addition of colored inks and a clear finish, to bring the predetermined design to life.

SPINDLE TURNING: CLASSIC CUTS y Sunday: 12:00 pm

Nothing is more traditional and classic than spindle turning on the lathe. Join Bradley in this new seminar and learn the fundamental uses of the spindle roughing gouge, skew chisel, and spindle gouge. Learn spindle turning techniques including: Roughing down to a cylinder; the smoothing or planing cut; 'V' cuts; forming a bead; forming a cove; blending beads and coves; squaring the end; rounding the end and cutting pommels. You will leave this seminar with a solid understanding of spindle turning, and ready to begin your next spindle turning project with confidence.

FINISHES FOR WOODTURNING

y Sunday: 1:30 pm Confused by which finish to choose for your woodturning project? Sit down with Bradley as he sheds light on the various finishes that are now available to complete your turned wood project. The types of finishes covered will range from centuries-old classics to today's most advanced and environmentally friendly products. Bradley will explain how to determine the most suitable finish, and alternatives for the intended use of the piece. Methods to apply the finish, safety considerations, personal health concerns and local regulations will complete this seminar.
